1 The following were the descendants of Aaron and Moses at the time that the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.	1 ואלה תולדת אהרן ומשה ביום דבר יהוה את משה בהר סיני
2 The sons of Aaron were Nadab his first-born, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.	2 ואלה שמות בני אהרן הבכור נדב ואביהוא אלעזר ואיתמר
3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests who were ordained to exercise the priesthood.	3 אלה שמות בני אהרן הכהנים המשחים אשר מלא ידם לכהן
4 But when Nadab and Abihu offered profane fire before the LORD in the desert of Sinai, they met death in the presence of the LORD, and left no sons. Thereafter only Eleazar and Ithamar performed the priestly functions under the direction of their father Aaron.	4 וימת נדב ואביהוא לפני יהוה בהקרבם אש זרה לפני יהוה במדבר סיני ובנים לא היו להם ויכהן אלעזר ואיתמר על פני אהרן אביהם
5 Now the LORD said to Moses:	5 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר
6 "Summon the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest, as his assistants.	6 הקרב את מטה לוי והעמדת אתו לפני אהרן הכהן ושרתו אתו
7 They shall discharge his obligations and those of the whole community before the meeting tent by serving at the Dwelling.	7 ושמרו את משמרתו ואת משמרת כל העדה לפני אהל מועד לעבד את עבדת המשכן
8 They shall have custody of all the furnishings of the meeting tent and discharge the duties of the Israelites in the service of the Dwelling.	8 ושמרו את כל כלי אהל מועד ואת משמרת בני ישראל לעבד את עבדת המשכן
9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been set aside from among the Israelites as dedicated to me.	9 ונתתה את הלוים לאהרן ולבניו נתונם נתונם המה לו מאת בני ישראל
10 But only Aaron and his descendants shall you appoint to have charge of the priestly functions. Any layman who comes near shall be put to death."	10 ואת אהרן ואת בניו תפקד ושמרו את כהנתם והזר הקרב יומת
11 The LORD said to Moses,	11 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר
12 "It is I who have chosen the Levites from the Israelites in place of every first-born that opens the womb among the Israelites. The Levites, therefore, are mine,	12 ואני הנה לקחתי את הלוים מתוך בני ישראל תחת כל בכור פטר רחם מבני ישראל והיו לי הלוים
13 because every first-born is mine. When I slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I made all the first-born in Israel sacred to me, both of man and of beast. They belong to me; I am the LORD."	13 כי לי כל בכור ביום הכתי כל בכור בארץ מצרים הקדשתי לי כל בכור בישראל מאדם עד בהמה לי יהיו אני יהוה
14 The LORD said to Moses in the desert of Sinai,	14 וידבר יהוה אל משה במדבר סיני לאמר
15 "Take a census of the Levites by ancestral houses and clans, registering every male of a month or more."	15 פקד את בני לוי לבית אבתם למשפחתם כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה תפקדם
16 Moses, therefore, took their census in accordance with the command the LORD had given him.	16 ויפקד אתם משה על פי יהוה כאשר צוה
17 The sons of Levi were named Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	17 ויהיו אלה בני לוי בשמתם גרשון וקהת ומררי
18 The descendants of Gershon, by clans, were named Libni and Shimei.	18 ואלה שמות בני גרשון למשפחתם לבני ושמעי
19 The descendants of Kohath, by clans, were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.	19 ובני קהת למשפחתם עמרם ויצהר חברון ועזיאל
20 The descendants of Merari, by clans, were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites by ancestral houses.	20 ובני מררי למשפחתם מחלי ומושי אלה הם משפחת הלוי לבית אבתם
21 To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; these were the clans of the Gershonites.	21 לגרשון משפחת הלבני ומשפחת השמעי אלה הם משפחת הגרשני
22 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered seven thousand five hundred.	22 פקדיהם במספר כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה פקדיהם שבעת אלפים וחמש מאות
23 The clans of the Gershonites camped behind the Dwelling, to the west.	23 משפחת הגרשני אחרי המשכן יחנו ימה
24 The prince of their ancestral house was Eliasaph, son of Lael.	24 ונשיא בית אב לגרשני אליסף בן לאל
25 At the meeting tent they had charge of whatever pertained to the Dwelling, the tent and its covering, the curtain at the entrance of the meeting tent,	25 ומשמרת בני גרשון באהל מועד המשכן והאהל מכסהו ומסך פתח אהל מועד
26 the hangings of the court, the curtain at the entrance of the court enclosing both the Dwelling and the altar, and the ropes.	26 וקלעי החצר ואת מסך פתח החצר אשר על המשכן ועל המזבח סביב ואת מיתריו לכל עבדתו
27 To Kohath belonged the clans of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these were the clans of the Kohathites.	27 ולקהת משפחת העמרמי ומשפחת היצהרי ומשפחת החברני ומשפחת העזיאלי אלה הם משפחת הקהתי
28 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered eight thousand three hundred. They had charge of the sanctuary.	28 במספר כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה שמנת אלפים ושש מאות שמרי משמרת הקדש
29 The clans of the Kohathites camped at the south side of the Dwelling.	29 משפחת בני קהת יחנו על ירך המשכן תימנה
30 The prince of their ancestral house was Elizaphan, son of Uzziel.	30 ונשיא בית אב למשפחת הקהתי אליצפן בן עזיאל
31 They had charge of whatever pertained to the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils with which the ministry of the sanctuary was exercised, and the veil.	31 ומשמרתם הארן והשלחן והמנרה והמזבחת וכלי הקדש אשר ישרתו בהם והמסך וכל עבדתו
32 The chief prince of the Levites, however, was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest; he was supervisor over those who had charge of the sanctuary.	32 ונשיא נשיאי הלוי אלעזר בן אהרן הכהן פקדת שמרי משמרת הקדש
33 To Merari belonged the clans of the Mahlites and the Mushites; these were the clans of Merari.	33 למררי משפחת המחלי ומשפחת המושי אלה הם משפחת מררי
34 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered six thousand two hundred.	34 ופקדיהם במספר כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה ששת אלפים ומאתים
35 The prince of the ancestral house of the clans of Merari was Zuriel, son of Abihail. They camped at the north side of the Dwelling.	35 ונשיא בית אב למשפחת מררי צוריאל בן אביחיל על ירך המשכן יחנו צפנה
36 The Merarites were charged with the care of whatever pertained to the boards of the Dwelling, its bars, columns, pedestals, and all its fittings,	36 ופקדת משמרת בני מררי קרשי המשכן ובריחיו ועמדיו ואדניו וכל כליו וכל עבדתו
37 as well as the columns of the surrounding court with their pedestals, pegs and ropes.	37 ועמדי החצר סביב ואדניהם ויתדתם ומיתריהם
38 East of the Dwelling, that is, in front of the meeting tent, toward the sunrise, were camped Moses and Aaron and the latter's sons. They discharged the obligations of the sanctuary for the Israelites. Any layman who came near was to be put to death.	38 והחנים לפני המשכן קדמה לפני אהל מועד מזרחה משה ואהרן ובניו שמרים משמרת המקדש למשמרת בני ישראל והזר הקרב יומת
39 The total number of male Levites a month old or more whom Moses had registered by clans in keeping with the LORD'S command, was twenty-two thousand.	39 כל פקודי הלוים אשר פקד משה ואהרן על פי יהוה למשפחתם כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה שנים ועשרים אלף
40 The LORD then said to Moses, "Take a census of all the first-born males of the Israelites a month old or more, and compute their total number.	40 ויאמר יהוה אל משה פקד כל בכר זכר לבני ישראל מבן חדש ומעלה ושא את מספר שמתם
41 Then assign the Levites to me, the LORD, in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, as well as their cattle in place of all the first-born among the cattle of the Israelites."	41 ולקחת את הלוים לי אני יהוה תחת כל בכר בבני ישראל ואת בהמת הלוים תחת כל בכור בבהמת בני ישראל
42 So Moses took a census of all the first-born of the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded him.	42 ויפקד משה כאשר צוה יהוה אתו את כל בכר בבני ישראל
43 When all the first-born males of a month or more were registered, they numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.	43 ויהי כל בכור זכר במספר שמות מבן חדש ומעלה לפקדיהם שנים ועשרים אלף שלשה ושבעים ומאתים
44 The LORD said to Moses:	44 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר
45 "Take the Levites in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle in place of their cattle, that the Levites may belong to me. I am the LORD.	45 קח את הלוים תחת כל בכור בבני ישראל ואת בהמת הלוים תחת בהמתם והיו לי הלוים אני יהוה
46 As ransom for the two hundred and seventy-three first-born of the Israelites who outnumber the Levites,	46 ואת פדויי השלשה והשבעים והמאתים העדפים על הלוים מבכור בני ישראל
47 you shall take five shekels for each individual, according to the standard of the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel.	47 ולקחת חמשת חמשת שקלים לגלגלת בשקל הקדש תקח עשרים גרה השקל
48 Give this silver to Aaron and his sons as ransom for the extra number."	48 ונתתה הכסף לאהרן ולבניו פדויי העדפים בהם
49 So Moses took the silver as ransom from those who were left when the rest had been redeemed by the Levites.	49 ויקח משה את כסף הפדיום מאת העדפים על פדויי הלוים
50 From the first-born of the Israelites he received in silver one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels according to the sanctuary standard.	50 מאת בכור בני ישראל לקח את הכסף חמשה וששים ושלש מאות ואלף בשקל הקדש
51 He then gave this ransom silver to Aaron and his sons, as the LORD had commanded him.	51 ויתן משה את כסף הפדים לאהרן ולבניו על פי יהוה כאשר צוה יהוה את משה
