1 The following were the descendants of Aaron and Moses at the time that the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.	1 Voici la descendance d’Aaron et de Moïse, lorsque Yahvé parla à Moïse sur la montagne du Sinaï.
2 The sons of Aaron were Nadab his first-born, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.	2 Voici les noms des fils d’Aaron: Nadab, le premier-né; Abihou, Éléazar et Itamar.
3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests who were ordained to exercise the priesthood.	3 Ce sont les noms des fils d’Aaron, les prêtres qui reçurent l’onction et furent choisis pour exercer le sacerdoce.
4 But when Nadab and Abihu offered profane fire before the LORD in the desert of Sinai, they met death in the presence of the LORD, and left no sons. Thereafter only Eleazar and Ithamar performed the priestly functions under the direction of their father Aaron.	4 Nadab et Abihou moururent devant Yahvé lorsqu’ils apportèrent à Yahvé un feu profane dans le désert du Sinaï; ils n’avaient pas de fils. Mais Éléazar et Itamar exercèrent le sacerdoce avec Aaron, leur père.
5 Now the LORD said to Moses:	5 Yahvé dit à Moïse:
6 "Summon the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest, as his assistants.	6 “Fais approcher la tribu de Lévi. Elle sera au service d’Aaron, le prêtre;
7 They shall discharge his obligations and those of the whole community before the meeting tent by serving at the Dwelling.	7 elle partagera la responsabilité d’Aaron et de toute la communauté pour tout ce qui concerne la Tente du Rendez-Vous; elle assurera le service de la Demeure.
8 They shall have custody of all the furnishings of the meeting tent and discharge the duties of the Israelites in the service of the Dwelling.	8 Les Lévites seront chargés de tous les ustensiles de la Tente du Rendez-Vous, de tout ce qui a été confié à la charge des Israélites: Ils assureront le service de la Demeure.
9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been set aside from among the Israelites as dedicated to me.	9 Tu confieras les Lévites à Aaron et à ses fils, ils sont pris parmi les Israélites pour lui être entièrement dévoués.
10 But only Aaron and his descendants shall you appoint to have charge of the priestly functions. Any layman who comes near shall be put to death."	10 Mais tu réserveras à Aaron et à ses fils les fonctions du sacerdoce: si un profane veut les exercer, il sera puni de mort.”
11 The LORD said to Moses,	11 Yahvé dit encore à Moïse:
12 "It is I who have chosen the Levites from the Israelites in place of every first-born that opens the womb among the Israelites. The Levites, therefore, are mine,	12 “Regarde! J’ai pris les Lévites du milieu des enfants d’Israël à la place de tout premier-né, de tout enfant qui sort le premier du sein de sa mère en Israël: les Lévites sont donc à moi.
13 because every first-born is mine. When I slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I made all the first-born in Israel sacred to me, both of man and of beast. They belong to me; I am the LORD."	13 Car tout premier-né m’appartient depuis le jour où j’ai frappé les premiers-nés au pays d’Égypte; je me suis alors consacré tout premier-né en Israël, aussi bien parmi les hommes que parmi les animaux, et ils sont à moi: je suis Yahvé!”
14 The LORD said to Moses in the desert of Sinai,	14 Yahvé dit à Moïse dans le désert du Sinaï:
15 "Take a census of the Levites by ancestral houses and clans, registering every male of a month or more."	15 “Recense les fils de Lévi selon leurs clans, selon leurs familles. Tu feras le recensement de tous les mâles de plus d’un mois.”
16 Moses, therefore, took their census in accordance with the command the LORD had given him.	16 Moïse fit donc ce recensement sur l’ordre de Yahvé, comme cela lui avait été commandé.
17 The sons of Levi were named Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	17 Voici les noms des fils de Lévi: Guerchon, Kahat et Mérari.
18 The descendants of Gershon, by clans, were named Libni and Shimei.	18 Voici les fils de Guerchon, par familles: Libni et Chiméï.
19 The descendants of Kohath, by clans, were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.	19 Les fils de Kahat, par familles: Amram, Yichar, Hébron et Ouziel.
20 The descendants of Merari, by clans, were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites by ancestral houses.	20 Les fils de Mérari, par familles: Mali et Mouchi. Ce sont là les clans des fils de Lévi groupés selon leurs familles paternelles.
21 To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; these were the clans of the Gershonites.	21 Le clan de Libni et le clan de Chiméï appartiennent à Guerchon: ce sont les clans des Guerchonites.
22 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered seven thousand five hundred.	22 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total de 7 500.
23 The clans of the Gershonites camped behind the Dwelling, to the west.	23 Les clans Guerchonites campaient derrière la Demeure, à l’ouest.
24 The prince of their ancestral house was Eliasaph, son of Lael.	24 Le chef de la maison de Guerchon était Éliasaf, fils de Laël.
25 At the meeting tent they had charge of whatever pertained to the Dwelling, the tent and its covering, the curtain at the entrance of the meeting tent,	25 Dans la Tente du Rendez-Vous, les fils de Guerchon avaient la charge de la Demeure, de la tente et de sa couverture, du voile d’entrée de la Tente,
26 the hangings of the court, the curtain at the entrance of the court enclosing both the Dwelling and the altar, and the ropes.	26 des rideaux de la cour, du rideau d’entrée de la cour qui entoure la Demeure et l’autel, enfin des cordes nécessaires pour ce travail.
27 To Kohath belonged the clans of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these were the clans of the Kohathites.	27 Les clans d’Amram, d’Yisar, d’Hébron et d’Ouziel appartiennent à Kahat: ce sont les clans des Kahatites.
28 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered eight thousand three hundred. They had charge of the sanctuary.	28 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total 8 300, ils étaient chargés du sanctuaire.
29 The clans of the Kohathites camped at the south side of the Dwelling.	29 Les clans Kahatites campaient au sud de la Demeure.
30 The prince of their ancestral house was Elizaphan, son of Uzziel.	30 Le chef de la maison des Kahatites était Élisafan, fils d’Ouziel.
31 They had charge of whatever pertained to the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils with which the ministry of the sanctuary was exercised, and the veil.	31 Ils avaient la charge de l’Arche, de la table, du candélabre, des autels, des objets pour le service du sanctuaire, du voile, avec tout ce qui l’accompagne.
32 The chief prince of the Levites, however, was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest; he was supervisor over those who had charge of the sanctuary.	32 Éléazar, fils d’Aaron le prêtre, avait la haute autorité sur tous les Lévites. Il surveillait tous ceux qui avaient la charge du sanctuaire.
33 To Merari belonged the clans of the Mahlites and the Mushites; these were the clans of Merari.	33 Le clan de Mali et le clan de Mouchi appartiennent à Mérari: ce sont les clans des Mérarites.
34 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered six thousand two hundred.	34 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total 6 200.
35 The prince of the ancestral house of the clans of Merari was Zuriel, son of Abihail. They camped at the north side of the Dwelling.	35 Les clans des Mérarites avaient pour chef Souriel, fils d’Abihayil. Ils campaient au nord de la Demeure.
36 The Merarites were charged with the care of whatever pertained to the boards of the Dwelling, its bars, columns, pedestals, and all its fittings,	36 Les fils de Mérari avaient la charge des cadres de la Demeure, de ses traverses, des colonnes et de leurs supports, de tous les accessoires et de tout ce qui les accompagne,
37 as well as the columns of the surrounding court with their pedestals, pegs and ropes.	37 ainsi que des colonnes qui entourent le parvis, de leurs supports, de leurs piquets et de leurs cordes.
38 East of the Dwelling, that is, in front of the meeting tent, toward the sunrise, were camped Moses and Aaron and the latter's sons. They discharged the obligations of the sanctuary for the Israelites. Any layman who came near was to be put to death.	38 Moïse, Aaron et ses fils campaient devant la Demeure, à l’est, devant la Tente du Rendez-Vous à l’orient. Ils montaient la garde devant le sanctuaire au nom des fils d’Israël. Si un profane s’était approché, il aurait été mis à mort.
39 The total number of male Levites a month old or more whom Moses had registered by clans in keeping with the LORD'S command, was twenty-two thousand.	39 Sur l’ordre de Yahvé, Moïse et Aaron recensèrent les Lévites selon leur famille. On dénombra 22 000 mâles de l’âge d’un mois et au-delà.
40 The LORD then said to Moses, "Take a census of all the first-born males of the Israelites a month old or more, and compute their total number.	40 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Recense tout premier-né mâle parmi les Israélites, depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-delà, et dénombre-les un par un.
41 Then assign the Levites to me, the LORD, in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, as well as their cattle in place of all the first-born among the cattle of the Israelites."	41 Je suis Yahvé, tu prendras pour moi les Lévites à la place de tout premier-né parmi les Israélites, et le bétail des Lévites à la place de tout premier-né du bétail des Israélites.”
42 So Moses took a census of all the first-born of the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded him.	42 Moïse recensa donc tous les premiers-nés des Israélites, comme Yahvé le lui avait ordonné.
43 When all the first-born males of a month or more were registered, they numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.	43 On compta, de l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus, 22 273 premiers-nés mâles.
44 The LORD said to Moses:	44 Yahvé dit alors à Moïse:
45 "Take the Levites in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle in place of their cattle, that the Levites may belong to me. I am the LORD.	45 “Prends les Lévites en échange de tout premier-né des Israélites, et le bétail des Lévites à la place du bétail des Israélites. Ainsi les Lévites seront à moi: je suis Yahvé!
46 As ransom for the two hundred and seventy-three first-born of the Israelites who outnumber the Levites,	46 “Tu rachèteras les 273 premiers-nés des Israélites qui excèdent le nombre des Lévites.
47 you shall take five shekels for each individual, according to the standard of the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel.	47 Tu prendras cinq sicles par tête, cinq sicles du sanctuaire, c’est-à-dire 20 guéras par sicle.
48 Give this silver to Aaron and his sons as ransom for the extra number."	48 Puis tu donneras cet argent à Aaron et à ses fils pour le rachat de ceux qui sont en excédent.”
49 So Moses took the silver as ransom from those who were left when the rest had been redeemed by the Levites.	49 Moïse prit donc l’argent du rachat de ceux qui étaient en excédent, et qui n’avaient pas été rachetés par les Lévites.
50 From the first-born of the Israelites he received in silver one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels according to the sanctuary standard.	50 Il demanda cet argent aux premiers-nés des Israélites: 1 365 sicles, d’après le sicle du sanctuaire.
51 He then gave this ransom silver to Aaron and his sons, as the LORD had commanded him.	51 Moïse donna alors l’argent du rachat à Aaron et ses fils, selon l’ordre de Yahvé, selon ce que Yahvé avait commandé à Moïse.
