NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 King Nebuchadnezzar had a golden statue made, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, which he set up in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.1 Nabuchodonosor rex fecit sta tuam auream altitudine cubito rum sexaginta,latitudine cubitorum sex; et statuit eam in campo Dura in provincia Babylonis.
2 He then ordered the satraps, prefects, and governors, the counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the officials of the provinces to be summoned to the dedication of the statue which he had set up.2 Itaque Nabuchodonosor rex misit ad congregandos satrapas, magistratus etiudices, duces et tyrannos et praefectos omnesque principes provinciarum, utconvenirent ad dedicationem statuae, quam erexerat Nabuchodonosor rex.
3 The satraps, prefects, and governors, the counselors, treasurers, judges, and magistrates and all the officials of the provinces, all these came together for the dedication and stood before the statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.3 Tunccongregati sunt satrapae, magistratus et iudices, duces et tyranni et optimates,qui erant in potestatibus constituti, et universi principes provinciarum addedicationem statuae, quam erexerat Nabuchodonosor rex. Stabant autem inconspectu statuae, quam posuerat Nabuchodonosor,
4 A herald cried out: "Nations and peoples of every language, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments,4 et praeco clamabat valenter:“ Vobis dicitur, populi, tribus et linguae:
5 you are ordered to fall down and worship the golden statue which King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.5 in hora, qua audieritis sonitumtubae et fistulae et citharae, sambucae et psalterii et symphoniae et universigeneris musicorum, cadentes adorate statuam auream, quam constituitNabuchodonosor rex.
6 Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be instantly cast into a white-hot furnace."6 Si quis autem non prostratus adoraverit, eadem horamittetur in fornacem ignis ardentis ”.
7 Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments, the nations and peoples of every language all fell down and worshiped the golden statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.7 Post haec igitur, statim ut audieruntomnes populi sonitum tubae, fistulae et citharae, sambucae et psalterii etsymphoniae et omnis generis musicorum, cadentes omnes populi tribus et linguaeadoraverunt statuam auream, quam constituerat Nabuchodonosor rex.
8 At that point, some of the Chaldeans came and accused the Jews8 Statimque et in ipso tempore accedentes viri Chaldaei accusaverunt Iudaeos
9 to King Nebuchadnezzar: "O king, live forever!9 dixeruntque Nabuchodonosor regi: “ Rex, in aeternum vive!
10 O king, you issued a decree that everyone who heard the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments should fall down and worship the golden statue;10 Tu, rex, posuistidecretum, ut omnis homo, qui audierit sonitum tubae, fistulae et citharae,sambucae et psalterii et symphoniae et universi generis musicorum, prosternat seet adoret statuam auream;
11 whoever did not was to be cast into a white-hot furnace.11 si quis autem non procidens adoraverit, mittetur infornacem ignis ardentis.
12 There are certain Jews whom you have made administrators of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego; these men, O king, have paid no attention to you; they will not serve your god or worship the golden statue which you set up."12 Sunt ergo viri Iudaei, quos constituisti super operaprovinciae Babylonis, Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago; viri isti te, rex, nonhonorant: deos tuos non colunt et statuam auream, quam erexisti, non adorant ”.
13 Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and sent for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were promptly brought before the king.13 Tunc Nabuchodonosor in furore et in ira praecepit, ut adducerentur Sedrac,Misac et Abdenago; tunc viri illi adducti sunt in conspectu regis.
14 King Nebuchadnezzar questioned them: "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you will not serve my god, or worship the golden statue that I set up?14 Pronuntiansque Nabuchodonosor rex ait eis: “ Verene, Sedrac, Misac etAbdenago, deos meos non colitis et statuam auream, quam constitui, non adoratis?
15 Be ready now to fall down and worship the statue I had made, whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments; otherwise, you shall be instantly cast into the white-hot furnace; and who is the God that can deliver you out of my hands?"15 Numquid estis nunc parati, quacumque hora audieritis sonitum tubae, fistulae,citharae, sambucae, psalterii et symphoniae omnisque generis musicorum,prosternere vos et adorare statuam, quam feci? Quod si non adoraveritis, eademhora mittemini in fornacem ignis ardentis; et quis est deus, qui eripiat vos demanu mea? ”.
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, "There is no need for us to defend ourselves before you in this matter.16 Respondentes Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago dixerunt regi Nabuchodonosor: “ Nonoportet nos de hac re respondere tibi:
17 If our God, whom we serve, can save us from the white-hot furnace and from your hands, O king, may he save us!17 Si enim Deus noster, quem colimus,potest eripere nos de camino ignis ardentis, et de manu tua, rex, liberabit.
18 But even if he will not, know, O king, that we will not serve your god or worship the golden statue which you set up."18 Quod si noluerit, notum sit tibi, rex, quia deos tuos non colimus et statuamauream, quam erexisti, non adoramus ”.
19 Nebuchadnezzar's face became livid with utter rage against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace to be heated seven times more than usual19 Tunc Nabuchodonosor repletus est furore, et aspectus faciei illius immutatusest super Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago; et respondens praecepit, ut succendereturfornax septuplum quam succendi consueverat;
20 and had some of the strongest men in his army bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and cast them into the white-hot furnace.20 et viris fortissimis de exercitusuo iussit, ut ligarent Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago et mitterent eos in fornacemignis ardentis;
21 They were bound and cast into the white-hot furnace with their coats, hats, shoes and other garments,21 et confestim viri illi vincti, cum bracis suis et tiaris etcalceamentis et vestibus missi sunt in medium fornacis ignis ardentis;
22 for the king's order was urgent. So huge a fire was kindled in the furnace that the flames devoured the men who threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into it.22 itaque, quia iussio regis urgebat, et fornax succensa erat nimis, viros illos,qui miserant Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago, interfecit flamma ignis.
23 But these three fell, bound, into the midst of the white-hot furnace.23 Viri autemtres, Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago, ceciderunt in medio camino ignis ardentiscolligati.
(Quae sequuntur in Hebraeis voluminibus non repperi).
24 They walked about in the flames, singing to God and blessing the Lord.24 Et ambulabant in medio flammae laudantes Deum et benedicentes Domino.
25 In the fire Azariah stood up and prayed aloud:25 Stans autem Azarias oravit sic aperiensque os suum in medio ignis ait:
26 "Blessed are you, and praiseworthy, O Lord, the God of our fathers, and glorious forever is your name.26 “ Benedictus es, Domine, Deus patrum nostrorum,
et laudabilis et gloriosum nomen tuum in saecula,
27 For you are just in all you have done; all your deeds are faultless, all your ways right, and all your judgments proper.27 quia iustus es in omnibus, quae fecisti nobis,
et universa opera tua vera, et viae tuae rectae,
et omnia iudicia tua veritas.
28 You have executed proper judgments in all that you have brought upon us and upon Jerusalem, the holy city of our fathers. By a proper judgment you have done all this because of our sins;28 Iudicia enim vera fecisti
iuxta omnia, quae induxisti super nos
et super civitatem sanctam patrum nostrorum Ierusalem,
quia in veritate et in iudicio induxisti omnia haec
propter peccata nostra.
29 For we have sinned and transgressed by departing from you, and we have done every kind of evil.29 Peccavimus enim et inique egimus recedentes a te
et deliquimus in omnibus;
30 Your commandments we have not heeded or observed, nor have we done as you ordered us for our good.30 et praecepta tua non audivimus
nec observavimus
nec fecimus, sicut praeceperas nobis,
ut bene nobis esset.
31 Therefore all you have brought upon us, all you have done to us,you have done by a proper judgment.31 Omnia ergo, quae induxisti super nos,
et universa, quae fecisti nobis,
vero iudicio fecisti;
32 You have handed us over to our enemies, lawless and hateful rebels; to an unjust king, the worst in all the world.32 et tradidisti nos in manibus inimicorum nostrorum
iniquorum et pessimorum praevaricatorumque
et regi iniusto et pessimo ultra omnem terram.
33 Now we cannot open our mouths; we, your servants, who revere you, have become a shame and a reproach.33 Et nunc non possumus aperire os;
confusio et opprobrium facta sunt
servis tuis et his, qui colunt te.
34 For your name's sake, do not deliver us up forever, or make void your covenant.34 Ne, quaesumus, tradas nos in perpetuum
propter nomen tuum
et ne dissipes testamentum tuum
35 Do not take away your mercy from us, for the sake of Abraham, your beloved, Isaac your servant, and Israel your holy one,35 neque auferas misericordiam tuam a nobis
propter Abraham dilectum tuum
et Isaac servum tuum
et Israel sanctum tuum,
36 To whom you promised to multiply their offspring like the stars of heaven, or the sand on the shore of the sea.36 quibus dixisti
quod multiplicares semen eorum sicut stellas caeli
et sicut arenam, quae est in litore maris;
37 For we are reduced, O Lord, beyond any other nation, brought low everywhere in the world this day because of our sins.37 quia, Domine,
imminuti sumus plus quam omnes gentes
sumusque humiles in universa terra
hodie propter peccata nostra;
38 We have in our day no prince, prophet, or leader, no holocaust, sacrifice, oblation, or incense, no place to offer first fruits, to find favor with you.38 et non est in tempore hoc
princeps et propheta et dux
neque holocaustum neque sacrificium
neque oblatio neque incensum
neque locus primitiarum coram te,
ut possimus invenire misericordiam;
39 But with contrite heart and humble spirit let us be received;39 sed in anima contrita et spiritu humilitatis suscipiamur
sicut in holocausto arietum et taurorum
40 As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, So let our sacrifice be in your presence today as we follow you unreservedly; for those who trust in you cannot be put to shame.40 et sicut in milibus agnorum pinguium;
sic fiat sacrificium nostrum in conspectu tuo hodie,
et perfice subsequentes te,
quoniam non est confusio confidentibus in te.
41 And now we follow you with our whole heart, we fear you and we pray to you.41 Et nunc sequimur te in toto corde
et timemus te et quaerimus faciem tuam;
42 Do not let us be put to shame, but deal with us in your kindness and great mercy.42 ne confundas nos,
sed fac nobiscum iuxta mansuetudinem tuam
et secundum multitudinem misericordiae tuae
43 Deliver us by your wonders, and bring glory to your name, O Lord:43 et erue nos in mirabilibus tuis
et da gloriam nomini tuo, Domine.
44 Let all those be routed who inflict evils on your servants; Let them be shamed and powerless, and their strength broken;44 Et confundantur omnes, qui ostendunt servistuis mala;
confundantur absque ulla potentia,
et robur eorum conteratur.
45 Let them know that you alone are the Lord God, glorious over the whole world."45 Sciant quia tu es Dominus,
Deus solus et gloriosus super orbem terrarum ”.
46 Now the king's men who had thrown them in continued to stoke the furnace with brimstone, pitch, tow, and faggots.46 Et non cessabant, qui immiserant eos, ministri regis succendere fornacemnaphta et stuppa et pice et malleolis,
47 The flames rose forty-nine cubits above the furnace,47 et effundebatur flamma super fornacemcubitis quadraginta novem
48 and spread out, burning the Chaldeans nearby.48 et erupit et incendit, quos repperit iuxta fornacemde Chaldaeis.
49 But the angel of the Lord went down into the furnace with Azariah and his companions, drove the fiery flames out of the furnace,49 Angelus autem Domini descendit cum Azaria et sociis eius infornacem et excussit flammam ignis de fornace
50 and made the inside of the furnace as though a dew-laden breeze were blowing through it. The fire in no way touched them or caused them pain or harm.50 et fecit medium fornacis quasiventum roris flantem; et non tetigit eos omnino ignis neque contristavit necquidquam molestiae intulit.
51 Then these three in the furnace with one voice sang, glorifying and blessing God:51 Tunc hi tres, quasi ex uno ore, laudabant et glorificabant et benedicebantDeo in fornace dicentes:
52 "Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever; And blessed is your holy and glorious name, praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages.52 “ Benedictus es, Domine, Deus patrum nostrorum,

(Hucusque non habetur in Hebraeo et, quae posuimus, de Theodotionis editionetranslata sunt).
91 King Nebuchadnezzar rose in haste and asked his nobles, "Did we not cast three men bound into the fire?" "Assuredly, O king," they answered.91 24 Tunc Nabuchodonosor rex obstupuit et surrexit propere; respondens aitoptimatibus suis: “ Nonne tres viros misimus in medium ignis compeditos?”.Qui respondentes dixerunt regi: “ Vere, rex ”.
92 "But," he replied, "I see four men unfettered and unhurt, walking in the fire, and the fourth looks like a son of God."92 25 Respondit et ait: “Ecce ego video viros quattuor solutos et ambulantes in medio ignis, et nihilcorruptionis in eis est, et species quarti similis filio deorum ”.
93 Then Nebuchadnezzar came to the opening of the white-hot furnace and called to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: "Servants of the most high God, come out." Thereupon Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire.93 26 Tuncaccessit Nabuchodonosor ad ostium fornacis ignis ardentis et ait: “ Sedrac,Misac et Abdenago, servi Dei excelsi, egredimini et venite ”. Statimqueegressi sunt Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago de medio ignis.
94 When the satraps, prefects, governors, and nobles of the king came together, they saw that the fire had had no power over the bodies of these men; not a hair of their heads had been singed, nor were their garments altered; there was not even a smell of fire about them.94 27 Et congregatisatrapae, magistratus et iudices et potentes regis contemplabantur viros illos,quoniam nihil potestatis habuisset ignis in corporibus eorum, et capilluscapitis eorum non esset adustus, et sarabara eorum non fuissent immutata, etodor ignis non transisset per eos.
95 Nebuchadnezzar exclaimed, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel to deliver the servants that trusted in him; they disobeyed the royal command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.95 28 Et erumpens Nabuchodonosor ait: “Benedictus Deus eorum, Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago, qui misit angelum suum eteruit servos suos, qui crediderunt in eo, et verbum regis immutaverunt ettradiderunt corpora sua, ne servirent et ne adorarent omnem deum, excepto Deosuo.
96 Therefore I decree for nations and peoples of every language that whoever blasphemes the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut to pieces and his house destroyed. For there is no other God who can rescue like this."96 29 A me ergo positum est decretum, ut omnis populus, tribus et linguaquaecumque locuta fuerit blasphemiam contra Deum Sedrac, Misac et Abdenago, infrusta concidatur, et domus eius in sterquilinium fiat, eo quod non est Deusalius, qui possit ita salvare ”.
97 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.97 30 Tunc rex promovit Sedrac, Misac etAbdenago in provincia Babylonis.
98 King Nebuchadnezzar to the nations and peoples of every language, wherever they dwell on earth: abundant peace!98 31 Nabuchodonosor rex omnibus populis, gentibus et linguis, quae habitant inuniversa terra: “ Pax vobis multiplicetur.
99 It has seemed good to me to publish the signs and wonders which the most high God has accomplished in my regard.99 32 Signa et mirabilia, quaefecit apud me Deus excelsus, placuit mihi praedicare:
100 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders; his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures through all generations.100 33 Signa eius quam magna sunt,
et mirabilia eius quam fortia!
Et regnum eius regnum sempiternum,
et potestas eius in generationem et generationem ”.
