NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Thus the word of the LORD came to me:1 Et factus est sermo Domini ad me dicens:
Son of man, now say: Thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!2 “ Et tu, fili hominis,loquere. Haec dicit Dominus Deus terrae Israel: Finis venit, finis superquattuor plagas terrae;
Now the end is upon you; I will unleash my anger against you and judge you according to your conduct and lay upon you the consequences of all your abominations.3 nunc finis super te, et immittam furorem meum in te etiudicabo te iuxta vias tuas et ponam super te omnes abominationes tuas.
I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy; I will bring your conduct down upon you, and the consequences of your abominations shall be in your midst; then shall you know that I am the LORD.4 Et nonparcet oculus meus super te, et non miserebor, sed vias tuas ponam super te, etabominationes tuae in medio tui erunt, et scietis quia ego Dominus.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Disaster upon disaster! See it coming!5 Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Afflictio super afflictionem ecce venit.
An end is coming, the end is coming upon you! See it coming!6 Finisvenit, venit finis; evigilavit adversum te, ecce venit.
The climax has come for you who dwell in the land! The time has come, near is the day: a time of consternation, not of rejoicing.7 Venit contractio superte, qui habitas in terra; venit tempus, prope est dies turbationis et noniubilationis in montibus.
Soon now I will pour out my fury upon you and spend my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your conduct and lay upon you the consequences of all your abominations.8 Nunc de propinquo effundam iram meam super te etcomplebo furorem meum in te et iudicabo te iuxta vias tuas et imponam tibi omniascelera tua;
I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy; I will deal with you according to your conduct, and the consequences of your abominations shall be in your midst; then shall you know that it is I, the LORD, who strike.9 et non parcet oculus meus, nec miserebor, sed vias tuas imponamtibi, et abominationes tuae in medio tui erunt, et scietis quia ego sum Dominuspercutiens.
See, the day of the LORD! See, the end is coming! Lawlessness is in full bloom, insolence flourishes,10 Ecce dies, ecce venit; egressa est contractio, floruit iniustitia, germinavitsuperbia;
violence has risen to support wickedness. It shall not be long in coming, nor shall it delay.11 violentia surrexit, ut esset virga impietatis: non ex eis et non expompa eorum neque ex sonitu eorum; et non erit requies in eis.
The time has come, the day dawns. Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn, for wrath shall be upon all the throng.12 Venit tempus,appropinquavit dies: qui emit, non laetetur; et, qui vendit, non lugeat, quiaira super omnem pompam eius.
The seller shall not regain what he sold as long as he lives, for wrath shall be upon all the throng. Because of his sins, no one shall preserve his life.13 Quia, qui vendit, ad id quod vendidit nonrevertetur, cum adhuc sit in viventibus vita eorum. Visio enim ad omnem pompameius non regredietur, et unusquisque in iniquitate sua vitam suam nonconfortabit.
They shall sound the trumpet and make everything ready, yet no one shall go to war, for my wrath is upon all the throng.14 Canite tuba, praeparentur omnia, sed non est qui vadat adproelium; ira enim mea super universam pompam eius.
The sword is outside; pestilence and hunger are within. He that is in the country shall die by the sword; pestilence and famine shall devour those in the city.15 Gladius foris, pestis et fames intrinsecus. Qui in agro est, gladio morietur;et, qui in civitate, fame et pestilentia devorabuntur.
Even those who escape and flee to the mountains like the doves of the valleys--I will put them all to death, each one for his own sins.16 Et salvabuntur, quifugerint ex eis, et erunt in montibus quasi columbae convallium omnes gementes,unusquisque in iniquitate sua.
All their hands shall be limp, and all their knees shall run with water.17 Omnes manus dissolventur, et omnia genua fluent aquis.
They shall put on sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; shame shall be on all their faces and baldness on all their heads.18 Et accingent seciliciis, et operiet eos formido; et in omni facie confusio, et in universiscapitibus eorum calvitium.
They shall fling their silver into the streets, and their gold shall be considered refuse. Their silver and gold cannot save them on the day of the LORD'S wrath. They shall not be allowed to satisfy their craving or fill their bellies, for this has been the occasion of their sin.19 Argentum suum foras proicient, et aurum eorum inimmunditiam erit; argentum eorum et aurum eorum non valebit liberare eos in diefuroris Domini; animam suam non saturabunt, et ventres eorum non implebuntur,quia scandalum iniquitatis eorum factum est,
In the beauty of their ornaments they put their pride: they made of them their abominable images (their idols). For this reason I make them refuse.20 et ornamentum monilium suorum insuperbiam posuerunt et imagines abominationum suarum et simulacrorum fecerunt exeo; propter hoc dedi eis illud in immunditiam.
I will hand them over as booty to foreigners, to be spoiled and defiled by the wicked of the earth.21 Et dabo illud in manusalienorum ad diripiendum et impiis terrae in praedam, et contaminabunt illud.
I will turn away my face from them, and my treasure shall be profaned: robbers shall enter and profane it.22 Et avertam faciem meam ab eis, et violabunt thesaurum meum absconditum; etintroibunt in illud praedones et contaminabunt illud
They shall wreak slaughter, for the land is filled with bloodshed and the city full of violence.23 et facient ex illocatenas; quoniam terra plena est iudicio sanguinum, et civitas plena iniquitate.
I will bring in the worst of the nations, who shall take possession of their houses. I will put an end to their proud strength, and their sanctuaries shall be profaned.24 Et adducam pessimos de gentibus, et possidebunt domos eorum; et quiescerefaciam superbiam potentium, et possidebunt sanctuaria eorum.
When anguish comes they shall seek peace, but there will be none.25 Angustiasuperveniente, requirent pacem, et non erit.
There shall be disaster after disaster, rumor after rumor. Prophetic vision shall fade; instruction shall be lacking to the priest, and counsel to the elders,26 Calamitas super calamitatemveniet, et auditus super auditum; et quaerent visionem de propheta, et lexperibit a sacerdote, et consilium a senioribus.
while the prince shall be enveloped in terror, and the hands of the common people shall tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and according to their judgments I will judge them; thus they shall know that I am the LORD.27 Rex lugebit, et princepsinduetur horrore, et manus populi terrae conturbabuntur. Secundum viam eorumfaciam eis et secundum iudicia eorum iudicabo eos, et scient quia ego Dominus”.
