1 My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.	1 Figlio, hai peccato? Non continuare oltre e domanda perdono per le colpe commesse.
2 Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.	2 Fuggi il peccato come il serpente, poiché, se ti accosti, ti addenterà. Denti di leone sono i suoi denti e tolgono la vita agli uomini.
3 Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.	3 Ogni iniquità è come una spada a doppio taglio; alla sua piaga non c’è rimedio.
4 Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.	4 L’intimidazione e la violenza annientano la ricchezza; così la casa del superbo è devastata.
5 Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.	5 La preghiera del povero, appena emessa, giunge alle orecchie di lui; gli si fa giustizia con premura.
6 He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.	6 Chi odia la correzione è sulle orme di chi pecca; ma chi teme il Signore si pente di cuore.
7 Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.	7 Si conosce da lontano chi è forte solo a parole e l’intelligente sa quando quegli sdrucciola.
8 He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.	8 Chi costruisce la propria casa con gli averi altrui è come chi ammucchia pietre per il sepolcro.
9 A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.	9 Un’accolta di iniqui è stoppa ammassata; una fiammata è la loro fine.
10 The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.	10 La via dei peccatori è senza pietre; e, in fondo a essa, la profondità dell’Ade.
11 He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.	11 Chi osserva la legge domina i suoi impulsi; la perfezione del timor del Signore è sapienza.
12 He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.	12 Non rimane istruito se non chi è sagace; ma c’è una sagacia che abbonda in ostinazione.
13 A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;	13 La scienza del sapiente cresce come l’inondazione; il suo consiglio è una fonte di vita.
14 A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.	14 Il fondo dello stolto è come un vaso frantumato: non contiene scienza alcuna.
15 When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.	15 Un intelligente, qualora oda un discorso saggio, lo loda e ce ne aggiunge; l’ode anche il frivolo: gli fa cattiva cera e se lo getta dietro le spalle.
16 A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.	16 Il discorso del fatuo è un fardello nel cammino; ma sulle labbra dell’assennato c’è grazia.
17 The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.	17 Nell’assemblea si ricerca la parola di chi è prudente e si riflette nell’intimo sui discorsi di lui.
18 Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.	18 Casa in distruzione è la sapienza per il fatuo e parole disordinate la scienza per l’insensato.
19 Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.	19 La disciplina è costrizione ai piedi per lo stolto e tante corde per la mano destra.
20 A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.	20 Lo stolto, nel ridere, alza la voce; l’uomo accorto, invece, sorride appena dolcemente.
21 Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.	21 La disciplina è un monile per l’uomo prudente ed è un bracciale al braccio destro.
22 The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;	22 Il piede dello stolto entra facilmente in una casa; ma l’uomo assai esperto vi entra con cautela.
23 A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.	23 L’uomo senza cervello si curva dalla porta in dentro; l’uomo educato, invece, rimane fuori.
24 It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.	24 È ineducazione che l’uomo origli alla porta; l’uomo prudente, invece, si riterrebbe disonorato.
25 The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.	25 Le labbra di chi chiacchiera dicono stoltezze; ma i discorsi dei prudenti sono equilibrati.
26 Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.	26 Sulla bocca degli stolti c’è il loro cuore; ma, per i sapienti, il cuore è la loro bocca.
27 When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.	27 L’empio, quando impreca all’avversario, impreca a se stesso.
28 A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.	28 Il sussurrone macchia la propria anima ed è odiato da chi gli è vicino.
