1 My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.	1 Figlio, hai peccato? Non farlo più e prega per le colpe passate.
2 Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.	2 Come alla vista del serpente fuggi il peccato: se ti avvicini, ti morderà. Denti di leone sono i suoi denti, capaci di distruggere vite umane.
3 Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.	3 Ogni trasgressione è come spada a doppio taglio: non c'è rimedio per la sua ferita.
4 Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.	4 Spavento e violenza fanno svanire la ricchezza; così la casa del superbo sarà devastata.
5 Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.	5 La preghiera del povero va dalla sua bocca agli orecchi di Dio, il giudizio di lui verrà a suo favore.
6 He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.	6 Chi odia il rimprovero segue le orme del peccatore, ma chi teme il Signore si convertirà di cuore.
7 Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.	7 Da lontano si riconosce il linguacciuto, ma l'assennato conosce il suo scivolare.
8 He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.	8 Chi costruisce la sua casa con ricchezze altrui è come chi ammucchia pietre per l'inverno.
9 A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.	9 Mucchio di stoppa è una riunione di iniqui; la loro fine è una fiammata di fuoco.
10 The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.	10 La via dei peccatori è appianata e senza pietre; ma al suo termine c'è il baratro degli inferi.
11 He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.	11 Chi osserva la legge domina il suo istinto, il risultato del timore del Signore è la sapienza.
12 He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.	12 Non diventerà educato chi manca di capacità, ma c'è anche una capacità che aumenta l'amarezza.
13 A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;	13 La scienza del saggio cresce come una piena; il suo consiglio è come una sorgente di vita.
14 A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.	14 L'interno dello stolto è come un vaso rotto, non potrà contenere alcuna scienza.
15 When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.	15 Se un assennato ascolta un discorso intelligente, l'approverà e lo completerà; se l'ascolta un dissoluto, se ne dispiace e lo getta via dietro la schiena.
16 A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.	16 Il parlare dello stolto è come un fardello nel cammino, ma sulle labbra dell'intelligente si trova la grazia.
17 The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.	17 La parola del prudente è ricercata nell'assemblea; si rifletterà seriamente sui suoi discorsi.
18 Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.	18 Come casa in rovina, così la sapienza per lo stolto; scienza dell'insensato i discorsi incomprensibili.
19 Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.	19 Ceppi ai piedi è la disciplina per l'insensato e come manette nella sua destra.
20 A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.	20 Lo stolto alza la voce mentre ride; ma l'uomo saggio sorride appena in silenzio.
21 Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.	21 Ornamento d'oro è la disciplina per l'assennato; è come un monile al braccio destro.
22 The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;	22 Il piede dello stolto si precipita verso una casa; l'uomo sperimentato si mostrerà rispettoso.
23 A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.	23 Lo stolto spia dalla porta l'interno della casa; l'uomo educato se ne starà fuori.
24 It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.	24 È cattiva educazione d'un uomo origliare alla porta; l'uomo prudente ne resterebbe confuso.
25 The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.	25 Le labbra degli stolti ripetono sciocchezze, le parole dei prudenti sono pesate sulla bilancia.
26 Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.	26 Sulla bocca degli stolti è il loro cuore, i saggi invece hanno la bocca nel cuore.
27 When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.	27 Quando un empio maledice l'avversario, maledice se stesso.
28 A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.	28 Il maldicente danneggia se stesso e sarà detestato dal suo ambiente.
