For the leader. Of David, the servant of the LORD.1 [Dem Chorleiter. Vom Knecht des Herrn, von David.]
Sin directs the heart of the wicked; their eyes are closed to the fear of God.2 Der Spruch des Gottlosen lautet: "Unrecht zu tun steckt tief mir im Herzen!" Es gibt keine Gottesfurcht vor seinen Augen.
For they live with the delusion: their guilt will not be known and hated.3 Denn er schmeichelt sich selbst, nach eigenem Urteil seine Schuld zu entdecken und zu hassen.
Empty and false are the words of their mouth; they have ceased to be wise and do good.4 Die Worte seines Mundes sind Lug und Trug; weise und gut zu handeln, hat er verlernt.
In their beds they hatch plots; they set out on a wicked way; they do not reject evil.5 Bosheit ersinnt er auf seinem Lager, führt einen schlimmen Lebenswandel, Schlechtes verwirft er nicht.
LORD, your love reaches to heaven; your fidelity, to the clouds.6 Herr, bis an den Himmel reicht deine Huld, deine Treue bis zu den Wolken!
Your justice is like the highest mountains; your judgments, like the mighty deep; all living creatures you sustain, LORD.7 Deine Gerechtigkeit gleicht den Gottesbergen, dein rechtes Urteil dem großen Weltmeer. Menschen und Tiere umfaßt deine Hilfe, o Herr.
How precious is your love, O God! We take refuge in the shadow of your wings.8 Wie kostbar ist deine Huld, o Gott! Im Schatten deiner Flügel bergen sich die Menschen.
We feast on the rich food of your house; from your delightful stream you give us drink.9 Am Reichtum deines Hauses laben sie sich, mit dem Strom deiner Wonnen tränkst du sie.
For with you is the fountain of life, and in your light we see light.10 Ja, bei dir ist die Quelle des Lebens, in deinem Lichte schauen wir Licht.
Continue your kindness toward your friends, your just defense of the honest heart.11 Erhalte deine Gnade denen, die dich kennen, den Rechtgesinnten dein gerechtes Walten!
Do not let the foot of the proud overtake me, nor the hand of the wicked disturb me.12 Nicht komme über mich der Fuß des Stolzen; die Faust des Frevlers vertreibe mich nicht!
There make the evildoers fall; thrust them down, never to rise.13 Dann müssen die Übeltäter fallen; sie stürzen und können sich nicht mehr erheben.
