Psalms 119

1 Happy those whose way is blameless, who walk by the teaching of the LORD.	1 How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the Law of Yahweh!
2 Happy those who observe God's decrees, who seek the LORD with all their heart.	2 Blessed are those who observe his instructions, who seek him with all their hearts,
3 They do no wrong; they walk in God's ways.	3 and, doing no evil, who walk in his ways.
4 You have given them the command to keep your precepts with care.	4 You lay down your precepts to be careful y kept.
5 May my ways be firm in the observance of your laws!	5 May my ways be steady in doing your wil .
6 Then I will not be ashamed to ponder all your commands.	6 Then I shal not be shamed, if my gaze is fixed on your commandments.
7 I will praise you with sincere heart as I study your just edicts.	7 I thank you with a sincere heart for teaching me your upright judgements.
8 I will keep your laws; do not leave me all alone.	8 I shal do your will; do not ever abandon me whol y.
9 How can the young walk without fault? Only by keeping your words.	9 How can a young man keep his way spotless? By keeping your words.
10 With all my heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commands.	10 With al my heart I seek you, do not let me stray from your commandments.
11 In my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you.	11 In my heart I treasure your promises, to avoid sinning against you.
12 Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your laws.	12 Blessed are you, Yahweh, teach me your wil !
13 With my lips I recite all the edicts you have spoken.	13 With my lips I have repeated al the judgements you have given.
14 I find joy in the way of your decrees more than in all riches.	14 In the way of your instructions lies my joy, a joy beyond al wealth.
15 I will ponder your precepts and consider your paths.	15 I will ponder your precepts and fix my gaze on your paths.
16 In your laws I take delight; I will never forget your word.	16 I find my delight in your wil , I do not forget your words.
17 Be kind to your servant that I may live, that I may keep your word.	17 Be generous to your servant and I shal live, and shal keep your words.
18 Open my eyes to see clearly the wonders of your teachings.	18 Open my eyes and I shal fix my gaze on the wonders of your Law.
19 I am a sojourner in the land; do not hide your commands from me.	19 Wayfarer though I am on the earth, do not hide your commandments from me.
20 At all times my soul is stirred with longing for your edicts.	20 My heart is pining away with longing at all times for your judgements.
21 With a curse you rebuke the proud who stray from your commands.	21 You have rebuked the arrogant, the accursed, who stray from your commandments.
22 Free me from disgrace and contempt, for I observe your decrees.	22 Set me free from taunts and contempt since I observe your instructions.
23 Though princes meet and talk against me, your servant studies your laws.	23 Though princes sit plotting against me, your servant keeps pondering your wil .
24 Your decrees are my delight; they are my counselors.	24 Your instructions are my delight, your wishes my counsellors.
25 I lie prostrate in the dust; give me life in accord with your word.	25 Down in the dust I lie prostrate; true to your word, revive me.
26 I disclosed my ways and you answered me; teach me your laws.	26 I tell you my ways and you answer me; teach me your wishes.
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts; I will ponder your wondrous deeds.	27 Show me the way of your precepts, that I may reflect on your wonders.
28 I weep in bitter pain; in accord with your word to strengthen me.	28 I am melting away for grief; true to your word, raise me up.
29 Lead me from the way of deceit; favor me with your teaching.	29 Keep me far from the way of deceit, grant me the grace of your Law.
30 The way of loyalty I have chosen; I have set your edicts before me. <	30 I have chosen the way of constancy, I have moulded myself to your judgements.
31 I cling to your decrees, LORD; do not let me come to shame.	31 I cling to your instructions, Yahweh, do not disappoint me.
32 I will run the way of your commands, for you open my docile heart.	32 I run the way of your commandments, for you have given me freedom of heart.
33 LORD, teach me the way of your laws; I shall observe them with care.	33 Teach me, Yahweh, the way of your will, and I wil observe it.
34 Give me insight to observe your teaching, to keep it with all my heart.	34 Give me understanding and I will observe your Law, and keep it wholeheartedly.
35 Lead me in the path of your commands, for that is my delight.	35 Guide me in the way of your commandments, for my delight is there.
36 Direct my heart toward your decrees and away from unjust gain.	36 Bend my heart to your instructions, not to selfish gain.
37 Avert my eyes from what is worthless; by your way give me life.	37 Avert my eyes from pointless images, by your word give me life.
38 For your servant fulfill your promise made to those who fear you.	38 Keep your promise to your servant so that al may hold you in awe.
39 Turn away from me the taunts I dread, for your edicts bring good.	39 Avert the taunts that I dread, for your judgements are generous.
40 See how I long for your precepts; in your justice give me life.	40 See how I yearn for your precepts; in your saving justice give me life.
41 Let your love come to me, LORD, salvation in accord with your promise.	41 Let your faithful love come to me, Yahweh, true to your promise, save me!
42 Let me answer my taunters with a word, for I trust in your word.	42 Give me an answer to the taunts against me, since I rely on your word.
43 Do not take the word of truth from my mouth, for in your edicts is my hope.	43 Do not deprive me of that faithful word, since my hope lies in your judgements.
44 I will keep your teachings always, for all time and forever.	44 I shal keep your Law without fail for ever and ever.
45 I will walk freely in an open space because I cherish your precepts.	45 I shal live in all freedom because I have sought your precepts.
46 I will speak openly of your decrees without fear even before kings.	46 I shal speak of your instructions before kings and wil not be shamed.
47 I delight in your commands, which I dearly love.	47 Your commandments fill me with delight, I love them dearly.
48 I lift up my hands to your commands; I study your laws, which I love.	48 I stretch out my hands to your commandments that I love, and I ponder your judgements.
49 Remember your word to your servant by which you give me hope.	49 Keep in mind your promise to your servant on which I have built my hope.
50 This is my comfort in affliction, your promise that gives me life.	50 It is my comfort in distress, that your promise gives me life.
51 Though the arrogant utterly scorn me, I do not turn from your teaching.	51 Endlessly the arrogant have jeered at me, but I have not swerved from your Law.
52 When I recite your edicts of old I am comforted, LORD.	52 I have kept your age -- old judgements in mind, Yahweh, and I am comforted.
53 Rage seizes me because of the wicked; they forsake your teaching.	53 Fury grips me when I see the wicked who abandon your Law.
54 Your laws become my songs wherever I make my home.	54 Your judgements are my song where I live in exile.
55 Even at night I remember your name in observance of your teaching, LORD.	55 Al night, Yahweh, I hold your name in mind, I keep your Law.
56 This is my good fortune, for I have observed your precepts.	56 This is what it means to me, observing your precepts.
57 My portion is the LORD; I promise to keep your words.	57 My task, I have said, Yahweh, is to keep your word.
58 I entreat you with all my heart: have mercy on me in accord with your promise.	58 Wholeheartedly I entreat your favour; true to your promise, take pity on me!
59 I have examined my ways and turned my steps to your decrees.	59 I have reflected on my ways, and I turn my steps to your instructions.
60 I am prompt, I do not hesitate in keeping your commands.	60 I hurry without delay to keep your commandments.
61 Though the snares of the wicked surround me, your teaching I do not forget.	61 Though caught in the snares of the wicked, I do not forget your Law.
62 At midnight I rise to praise you because your edicts are just.	62 At midnight I rise to praise you for your upright judgements.
63 I am the friend of all who fear you, of all who keep your precepts.	63 I am a friend to all who fear you and keep your precepts.
64 The earth, LORD, is filled with your love; teach me your laws.	64 Your faithful love fil s the earth, Yahweh, teach me your judgements.
65 You have treated your servant well, according to your word, O LORD.	65 You have been generous to your servant, Yahweh, true to your promise.
66 Teach me wisdom and knowledge, for in your commands I trust.	66 Teach me judgement and knowledge, for I rely on your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I hold to your promise.	67 Before I was punished I used to go astray, but now I keep to your promise.
68 You are good and do what is good; teach me your laws.	68 You are generous and act generously, teach me your wil .
69 The arrogant smear me with lies, but I observe your precepts with all my heart.	69 The arrogant blacken me with lies though I wholeheartedly observe your precepts.
70 Their hearts are gross and fat; as for me, your teaching is my delight.	70 Their hearts are gross like rich fat, but my delight is in your Law.
71 It was good for me to be afflicted, in order to learn your laws.	71 It was good for me that I had to suffer, the better to learn your judgements.
72 Teaching from your lips is more precious to me than heaps of silver and gold.	72 The Law you have uttered is more precious to me than al the wealth in the world.
73 Your hands made me and fashioned me; give me insight to learn your commands.	73 Your hands have made me and held me firm, give me understanding and I shal learn yourcommandments.
74 Those who fear you rejoice to see me, because I hope in your word.	74 Those who fear you rejoice at the sight of me since I put my hope in your word.
75 I know, LORD, that your edicts are just; though you afflict me, you are faithful.	75 I know, Yahweh, that your judgements are upright, and in punishing me you show your constancy.
76 May your love comfort me in accord with your promise to your servant.	76 Your faithful love must be my consolation, as you have promised your servant.
77 Show me compassion that I may live, for your teaching is my delight.	77 Treat me with tenderness and I shall live, for your Law is my delight.
78 Shame the proud for oppressing me unjustly, that I may study your precepts.	78 Let the arrogant who tell lies against me be shamed, while I ponder your precepts.
79 Let those who fear you turn to me, those who acknowledge your decrees.	79 Let those who fear you rally to me, those who understand your instructions.
80 May I be wholehearted toward your laws, that I may not be put to shame.	80 My heart shall be faultless towards your wil ; then I shall not be ashamed.
81 My soul longs for your salvation; I put my hope in your word.	81 I shal wear myself out for your salvation, for your word is my hope.
82 My eyes long to see your promise. When will you comfort me?	82 My eyes, too, are worn out waiting for your promise, when wil you have pity on me?
83 I am like a wineskin shriveled by smoke, but I have not forgotten your laws.	83 For I am like a smoked wineskin, but I do not forget your wil .
84 How long can your servant survive? When will your edict doom my foes?	84 How long has your servant to live? When wil you bring my persecutors to judgement?
85 The arrogant have dug pits for me; defying your teaching.	85 The arrogant have dug pitfalls for me in defiance of your Law.
86 All your commands are steadfast. Help me! I am pursued without cause.	86 Al your commandments show constancy. Help me when they pursue me dishonestly.
87 They have almost ended my life on earth, but I do not forsake your precepts.	87 They have almost annihilated me on earth, but I have not deserted your precepts.
88 In your kindness give me life, to keep the decrees you have spoken.	88 True to your faithful love, give me life, and I shal keep the instructions you have laid down.
89 Your word, LORD, stands forever; it is firm as the heavens.	89 For ever, Yahweh, your word is planted firm in heaven.
90 Through all generations your truth endures; fixed to stand firm like the earth.	90 Your constancy endures from age to age; you established the earth and it stands firm.
91 By your edicts they stand firm to this day, for all things are your servants.	91 Through your judgements al stands firm to this day, for al creation is your servant.
92 Had your teaching not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.	92 Had your Law not been my delight, I would have perished in my misery.
93 I will never forget your precepts; through them you give me life.	93 I shal never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.
94 I am yours; save me, for I cherish your precepts.	94 I am yours, save me, for I seek your precepts.
95 The wicked hope to destroy me, but I pay heed to your decrees.	95 The wicked may hope to destroy me, but al my thought is of your instructions.
96 I have seen the limits of all perfection, but your command is without bounds.	96 I have seen that al perfection is finite, but your commandment has no limit.
97 How I love your teaching, Lord! I study it all day long.	97 How I love your Law! I ponder it al day long.
98 Your command makes me wiser than my foes, for it is always with me.	98 You make me wiser than my enemies by your commandment which is mine for ever.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, because I ponder your decrees.	99 I am wiser than al my teachers because I ponder your instructions.
100 I have more insight than my elders, because I observe your precepts.	100 I have more understanding than the aged because I keep your precepts.
101 I keep my steps from every evil path, that I may obey your word.	101 I restrain my foot from evil paths to keep your word.
102 From your edicts I do not turn, for you have taught them to me.	102 I do not turn aside from your judgements, because you yourself have instructed me.
103 How sweet to my tongue is your promise, sweeter than honey to my mouth!	103 How pleasant your promise to my palate, sweeter than honey in my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I gain insight; therefore I hate all false ways.	104 From your precepts I learn wisdom, so I hate all deceptive ways.

106 I make a solemn vow to keep your just edicts.	106 I have sworn -- and shal maintain it -- to keep your upright judgements.
107 I am very much afflicted, LORD; give me life in accord with your word.	107 I am utterly wretched, Yahweh; true to your promise, give me life.
108 Accept my freely offered praise; LORD, teach me your decrees.	108 Accept, Yahweh, the tribute from my mouth, and teach me your judgements.
109 My life is always at risk, but I do not forget your teaching.	109 My life is in your hands perpetual y, I do not forget your Law.
110 The wicked have set snares for me, but from your precepts I do not stray.	110 The wicked have laid out a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts.
111 Your decrees are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart.	111 Your instructions are my eternal heritage, they are the joy of my heart.
112 My heart is set on fulfilling your laws; they are my reward forever.	112 I devote myself to obeying your statutes, their recompense is eternal.
113 I hate every hypocrite; your teaching I love.	113 I hate a divided heart, I love your Law.
114 You are my refuge and shield; in your word I hope.	114 You are my refuge and shield, I put my hope in your word.
115 Depart from me, you wicked, that I may observe the commands of my God.	115 Leave me alone, you wicked, I shal observe the commandments of my God.
116 Sustain me by your promise that I may live; do not disappoint me in my hope.	116 True to your word, support me and I shal live; do not disappoint me of my hope.
117 Strengthen me that I may be safe, ever to contemplate your laws.	117 Uphold me and I shall be saved, my gaze fixed on your wil .
118 You reject all who stray from your laws, for vain is their deceit.	118 You shake off al who stray from your wil ; deceit fills their horizon.
119 Like dross you regard all the wicked on earth; therefore I love your decrees.	119 In your sight al the wicked of the earth are like rust, so I love your instructions.
120 My flesh shudders with dread of you; I hold your edicts in awe.	120 My whole body trembles before you, your judgements fill me with fear.
121 I have fulfilled your just edict; do not abandon me to my oppressors.	121 Al my conduct has been just and upright, do not hand me over to my oppressors.
122 Guarantee your servant's welfare; do not let the arrogant oppress me.	122 Guarantee the wel -being of your servant, do not let the proud oppress me.
123 My eyes long to see your salvation and the justice of your promise.	123 My eyes are languishing for your salvation and for the saving justice you have promised.
124 Act with kindness toward your servant; teach me your laws.	124 Show your faithful love to your servant, teach me your judgements.
125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may know your decrees.	125 Your servant am I; give me understanding and I shal know your instructions.
126 It is time for the LORD to act; they have disobeyed your teaching.	126 It is time to take action, Yahweh, your Law is being broken.
127 Truly I love your commands more than the finest gold.	127 So I love your commandments more than gold, purest gold.
128 Thus I follow all your precepts; every wrong way I hate.	128 So I rule my life by your precepts, I hate al deceptive paths.
129 Wonderful are your decrees; therefore I observe them.	129 Wonderful are your instructions, so I observe them.
130 The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple.	130 As your word unfolds it gives light, and even the simple understand.
131 I sigh with open mouth, yearning for your commands.	131 I open wide my mouth, panting eagerly for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious, your edict for lovers of your name.	132 Turn to me, pity me; those who love your name deserve it.
133 Steady my feet in accord with your promise; do not let iniquity lead me.	133 Keep my steps firm in your promise; that no evil may triumph over me.
134 Free me from human oppression, that I may keep your precepts.	134 Rescue me from human oppression, and I wil observe your precepts.
135 Let your face shine upon your servant; teach me your laws.	135 Let your face shine on your servant, teach me your wil .
136 My eyes shed streams of tears because your teaching is not followed.	136 My eyes stream with tears because your Law is disregarded.
137 You are righteous, LORD, and just are your edicts.	137 You are upright, Yahweh, and your judgements are honest.
138 You have issued your decrees in justice and in surpassing faithfulness.	138 You impose uprightness as a witness to yourself, it is constancy itself.
139 I am consumed with rage, because my foes forget your words.	139 My zeal is burning me up because my oppressors forget your word.
140 Your servant loves your promise; it has been proved by fire.	140 Your promise is wel tested, your servant holds it dear.
141 Though belittled and despised, I do not forget your precepts.	141 Puny and despised as I am, I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your justice is forever right, your teaching forever true.	142 Your saving justice is for ever just, and your Law is trustworthy.
143 Though distress and anguish come upon me, your commands are my delight.	143 Though anguish and distress grip me your commandments are my delight.
144 Your decrees are forever just; give me discernment that I may live.	144 Your instructions are upright for ever, give me understanding and I shal live.

148 My eyes greet the night watches as I meditate on your promise.	148 My eyes are awake before each watch of the night, to ponder your promise.
149 Hear my voice in your love, O LORD; by your edict give me life.	149 In your faithful love, Yahweh, listen to my voice, let your judgements give me life.
150 Malicious persecutors draw near me; they are far from your teaching.	150 My pursuers are coming closer to their wicked designs, and further from your Law.
151 You are near, O LORD; reliable are all your commands.	151 You are close to me, Yahweh, and all your commandments are true.
152 Long have I known from your decrees that you have established them forever.	152 Long have I known that your instructions were laid down to last for ever.
153 Look at my affliction and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your teaching.	153 Look at my suffering and rescue me, for I do not forget your Law.
154 Take up my cause and redeem me; for the sake of your promise give me life.	154 Plead my cause and defend me; as you promised, give me life.
155 Salvation is far from sinners because they do not cherish your laws.	155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your will.
156 Your compassion is great, O LORD; in accord with your edicts give me life.	156 Your kindnesses to me are countless, Yahweh; true to your judgements, give me life.
157 Though my persecutors and foes are many I do not turn from your decrees.	157 Though my enemies and oppressors are countless, I do not turn aside from your instructions.
158 I view the faithless with loathing, because they do not heed your promise.	158 The sight of these renegades appals me; they do not observe your promise.
159 See how I love your precepts, LORD; in your kindness give me life.	159 See how I love your precepts; true to your faithful love, give me life.
160 Your every word is enduring; all your just edicts are forever.	160 Faithfulness is the essence of your word, your upright judgements hold good for ever.
161 Princes persecute me without reason, but my heart reveres only your word.	161 Though princes hound me unprovoked, what fil s me with awe is your word.
162 I rejoice at your promise, as one who has found rich spoil.	162 I rejoice in your promise like one who finds a vast treasure.
163 Falsehood I hate and abhor; your teaching I love.	163 Falsehood I hate and detest, my love is for your Law.
164 Seven times a day I praise you because your edicts are just.	164 Seven times a day I praise you for your upright judgements.
165 Lovers of your teaching have much peace; for them there is no stumbling block.	165 Great peace for those who love your Law; no stumbling-blocks for them!
166 I look for your salvation, LORD, and I fulfill your commands.	166 I am waiting for your salvation, Yahweh, I fulfil your commandments.
167 I observe your decrees; I love them very much.	167 I observe your instructions, I love them dearly.
168 I observe your precepts and decrees; all my ways are before you.	168 I observe your precepts, your judgements, for al my ways are before you.
169 Let my cry come before you, LORD; in keeping with your word give me discernment.	169 May my cry approach your presence, Yahweh; by your word give me understanding.
170 Let my prayer come before you; rescue me according to your promise.	170 May my prayer come into your presence, rescue me as you have promised.
171 May my lips pour forth your praise, because you teach me your laws.	171 May my lips proclaim your praise, for you teach me your will.
172 May my tongue sing of your promise, for all your commands are just.	172 May my tongue recite your promise, for al your commandments are upright.
173 Keep your hand ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.	173 May your hand be there to help me, since I have chosen your precepts.
174 I long for your salvation, LORD; your teaching is my delight.	174 I long for your salvation, Yahweh, your Law is my delight.
175 Let me live to praise you; may your edicts give me help.	175 May I live only to praise you, may your judgements be my help.
176 I have wandered like a lost sheep; seek out your servant, for I do not forget your commands.	176 I am wandering like a lost sheep, come and look for your servant, for I have not forgotten yourcommandments.
