KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.1 For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.
Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.2 It is I, Paul, who am telling you that if you have yourselves circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.3 Once again I declare to every man who has himself circumcised that he is bound to observe the entire law.
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.4 You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we await the hope of righteousness.
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?7 You were running well; who hindered you from following (the) truth?
This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.8 That enticement does not come from the one who called you.
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.9 A little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough.
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.10 I am confident of you in the Lord that you will not take a different view, and that the one who is troubling you will bear the condemnation, whoever he may be.
And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.11 As for me, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case, the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.
I would they were even cut off which trouble you.12 Would that those who are upsetting you might also castrate themselves!
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.13 For you were called for freedom, brothers. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.15 But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.16 I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.17 For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.18 But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.21 occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,22 In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.24 Now those who belong to Christ (Jesus) have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.26 Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envious of one another.
