1 Corinthians 3

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.	1 And so, brothers, I was not able to talk to you as spiritual people; I had to talk to you as people stilliving by your natural inclinations, stil infants in Christ;
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.	2 I fed you with milk and not solid food, for you were not yet able to take it -- and even now, you are stilnot able to,
3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?	3 for you are still living by your natural inclinations. As long as there are jealousy and rivalry among you,that surely means that you are stil living by your natural inclinations and by merely human principles.
4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?	4 While there is one that says, 'I belong to Paul' and another that says, 'I belong to Apol os' are you notbeing only too human?
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?	5 For what is Apollos and what is Paul? The servants through whom you came to believe, and each hasonly what the Lord has given him.
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.	6 I did the planting, Apol os did the watering, but God gave growth.
7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.	7 In this, neither the planter nor the waterer counts for anything; only God, who gives growth.
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.	8 It is al one who does the planting and who does the watering, and each will have the proper pay for thework that he has done.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.	9 After all, we do share in God's work; you are God's farm, God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.	10 By the grace of God which was given to me, I laid the foundations like a trained master-builder, andsomeone else is building on them. Now each one must be careful how he does the building.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.	11 For nobody can lay down any other foundation than the one which is there already, namely JesusChrist.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;	12 On this foundation, different people may build in gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.	13 but each person's handiwork wil be shown for what it is. The Day which dawns in fire will make it clearand the fire itself wil test the quality of each person's work.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.	14 The one whose work stands up to it wil be given his wages;
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.	15 the one whose work is burnt down wil suffer the loss of it, though he himself will be saved; he wil besaved as someone might expect to be saved from a fire.
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?	16 Do you not realise that you are a temple of God with the Spirit of God living in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.	17 If anybody should destroy the temple of God, God will destroy that person, because God's temple isholy; and you are that temple.
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.	18 There is no room for self-delusion. Any one of you who thinks he is wise by worldly standards mustlearn to be a fool in order to be real y wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.	19 For the wisdom of the world is folly to God. As scripture says: He traps the crafty in the snare of theirown cunning
20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.	20 and again: The Lord knows the plans of the wise and how insipid they are.
21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;	21 So there is to be no boasting about human beings: everything belongs to you,
22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;	22 whether it is Paul, or Apol os, or Cephas, the world, life or death, the present or the future -- al belongto you;
23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.	23 but you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God.
