Sirach 33

1 There shall no evil happen unto him that feareth the Lord; but in temptation even again he will deliver him.	1 Chi teme Dio non incorrerà in alcun male; Dio lo proteggerà nella tentazione e lo libererà dal male.
2 A wise man hateth not the law; but he that is an hypocrite therein is as a ship in a storm.	2 Il sapiente non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come nave in tempesta.
3 A man of understanding trusteth in the law; and the law is faithful unto him, as an oracle.	3 L'uomo di senno è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.
4 Prepare what to say, and so thou shalt be heard: and bind up instruction, and then make answer.	4 Chi spiega una quistione preparerà il discorso, e così quando pregherà sarà esaudito, raccoglierà la dottrina e al lora risponderà.
5 The heart of the foolish is like a cartwheel; and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.	5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la rota d'un carro; e come asse che gira è il suo pensiero.
6 A stallion horse is as a mocking friend, he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.	6 L'amico finto è come cavallo stallone che nitrisce sotto qualunque cavaliere.
7 Why doth one day excel another, when as all the light of every day in the year is of the sun?	7 Perché un giorno è da più di un altro, così la luce è da più della luce, e un anno da più dell'altro se (tutto vien) dal sole?
8 By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished: and he altered seasons and feasts.	8 La sapienza del Signore li distinse, dopo aver fatto il sole, obbediente ai suoi ordini.
9 Some of them hath he made high days, and hallowed them, and some of them hath he made ordinary days.	9 Egli fece differenti le stagioni e i loro giorni di festa che in esse si celebrano al tempo stabilito.
10 And all men are from the ground, and Adam was created of earth:	10 Di essi alcuni Dio li esaltò e li fece grandi, gli altri li lasciò nel numero dei giorni comuni. E tutti gli uomini li ha fatti dalla polvere, dalla terra donde fu creato Adamo.
11 In much knowledge the Lord hath divided them, and made their ways diverse.	11 Nella grandezza della sua sapienza il Signore li distinse, e ne variò i destini.
12 Some of them hath he blessed and exalted and some of them he sanctified, and set near himself: but some of them hath he cursed and brought low, and turned out of their places.	12 Di essi alcuni li benedisse ed esaltò, alcuni li santificò e li prese per sè, altri invece li maledisse, li umiliò e li cacciò dal paese dove stavano ritirati.
13 As the clay is in the potter's hand, to fashion it at his pleasure: so man is in the hand of him that made him, to render to them as liketh him best.	13 Come l'argilla è in mano del vasaio, che la plasma e la dispone
14 Good is set against evil, and life against death: so is the godly against the sinner, and the sinner against the godly.	14 e tutta la forma a suo piacimento, così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui che l'ha fatto e lo ricompenserà secondo il suo giudizio.
15 So look upon all the works of the most High; and there are two and two, one against another.	15 Di fronte al male sta il bene, contro la morte la vita, così contro all'uomo giusto sta il peccatore. Considera così tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: stanno a due a due, e l'una contro l'altra.
16 I awaked up last of all, as one that gathereth after the grapegatherers: by the blessing of the Lord I profited, and tred my winepress like a gatherer of grapes.	16 Io poi mi sono svegliato l'ultimo, e sono come chi raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.
17 Consider that I laboured not for myself only, but for all them that seek learning.	17 Ma, colla benedizione di Dio. anch'io ho sperato e come vendemmiatore ho riempito il mio tino.
18 Hear me, O ye great men of the people, and hearken with your ears, ye rulers of the congregation.	18 Considerate che non ho faticato per me solo, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.
19 Give not thy son and wife, thy brother and friend, power over thee while thou livest, and give not thy goods to another: lest it repent thee, and thou intreat for the same again.	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi, o popoli tutti, capi dell'assemblea, porgete l'orecchio.
20 As long as thou livest and hast breath in thee, give not thyself over to any.	20 Al figlio, alla moglie, al fra­tello, all'amico, non dar potere sopra di te finché vivi, non cedere ad altri i tuoi beni, se non vuoi pentirtene ed esser costretto a raccomandarti per averli.
21 For better it is that thy children should seek to thee, than that thou shouldest stand to their courtesy.	21 Finchè vivi e respiri nessuno ti faccia mutar di parere.
22 In all thy works keep to thyself the preeminence; leave not a stain in thine honour.	22 Perchè è meglio che i tuoi figli preghino te, anziché tu abbia a guardare nelle mani dei tuoi figli.
23 At the time when thou shalt end thy days, and finish thy life, distribute thine inheritance.	23 In tutte le tue opere resta tu il principale,
24 Fodder, a wand, and burdens, are for the ass; and bread, correction, and work, for a servant. .	24 e non macchiare la tua gloria. Quando finiscono i tuoi giorni, alla morte, distribuisci la tua eredità.
25 If thou set thy servant to labour, thou shalt find rest: but if thou let him go idle, he shall seek liberty.	25 Fieno, bastone e soma all'asino, pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo:
26 A yoke and a collar do bow the neck: so are tortures and torments for an evil servant.	26 lavora costretto dalla sferza, cerca riposarsi; se lasci le sue mani oziose cerca la libertà.
27 Send him to labour, that he be not idle; for idleness teacheth much evil.	27 Il giogo e le redini fan piegare il collo duro, e il continuo lavoro piega lo schiavo.
28 Set him to work, as is fit for him: if he be not obedient, put on more heavy fetters.	28 Al servo cattivo battiture e ceppi: mandalo al lavoro, chè non stia in ozio;
29 But be not excessive toward any; and without discretion do nothing.	29 perchè l'ozio insegna molta malizia.
30 If thou have a servant, let him be unto thee as thyself, because thou hast bought him with a price.	30 Impiegalo nei lavori, chè ciò gli conviene, se non obbedisce, piegalo coi ceppi; ma non eccedere con nessuno, e senza giudizio non far nulla di grave.
31 If thou have a servant, entreat him as a brother: for thou hast need of him, as of thine own soul: if thou entreat him evil, and he run from thee, which way wilt thou go to seek him?	31 Se tu hai uno schiavo fedele tienne di conto come della tua vita, trattalo come fratello, perchè l'hai comprato col sangue della tua vita.
32 []	32 Se tu lo maltratti ingiustamente, si darà alla fuga.
33 []	33 E se, sottraendosi a te, se ne fugge, non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via cercarlo.
