Sirach 33

1 There shall no evil happen unto him that feareth the Lord; but in temptation even again he will deliver him.	1 - a chi teme il Signore non incoglierà male; ma nella tentazione Dio lo salverà e lo libererà da' mali.
2 A wise man hateth not the law; but he that is an hypocrite therein is as a ship in a storm.	2 il savio non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non sarà sbattuto [contro gli scogli] come una nave in burrasca.
3 A man of understanding trusteth in the law; and the law is faithful unto him, as an oracle.	3 L'uomo assennato ha fiducia nella legge di Dio, e la legge è per lui fedele [come un oracolo].
4 Prepare what to say, and so thou shalt be heard: and bind up instruction, and then make answer.	4 Prepara il discorso e sarai ascoltato; raccogli il tuo sapere e rispondi.
5 The heart of the foolish is like a cartwheel; and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.	5 Come la ruota d'un carro son le interiora dello stolto, e come un asse che gira, i suoi pensieri.
6 A stallion horse is as a mocking friend, he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.	6 Come un cavallo stallone è l'amico beffardo: sotto chiunque lo monta, nitrisce.
7 Why doth one day excel another, when as all the light of every day in the year is of the sun?	7 Perchè un giorno sopravanza un altro, mentre la luce d'ogni giorno dell'anno [viene] dal sole?
8 By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished: and he altered seasons and feasts.	8 Dalla sapienza del Signore furono distinti, fatto che fu il sole, che obbedisce agli ordini;
9 Some of them hath he made high days, and hallowed them, and some of them hath he made ordinary days.	9 ed egli variò le stagioni e i loro giorni festivi, che in quelle son celebrati all'ora stabilita.
10 And all men are from the ground, and Adam was created of earth:	10 Alcuni di quei [giorni] Dio esaltò e santificò; altri di essi mise a far numero tra i giorni. E [cosi] tutti gli uomini [vengono] dalla polvere, e dalla terra, donde fu creato Adamo.
11 In much knowledge the Lord hath divided them, and made their ways diverse.	11 Nella pienezza della sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le loro vie:
12 Some of them hath he blessed and exalted and some of them he sanctified, and set near himself: but some of them hath he cursed and brought low, and turned out of their places.	12 alcuni di essi benedisse ed esaltò, e parte ne santificò e avvicinò a sè; e altri ne maledisse e umiliò, e li rovesciò dalla loro posizione.
13 As the clay is in the potter's hand, to fashion it at his pleasure: so man is in the hand of him that made him, to render to them as liketh him best.	13 Come la creta del vasaio è in mano sua perchè l'impasti e la formi,
14 Good is set against evil, and life against death: so is the godly against the sinner, and the sinner against the godly.	14 e tutti i suoi destini dipendono dal beneplacito di lui; così l'uomo è in mano di colui che l'ha creato, il quale dà a lui secondo il suo giudizio.
15 So look upon all the works of the most High; and there are two and two, one against another.	15 Di fronte al male sta il bene e di fronte alla morte la vita: cosi di fronte al giusto il peccatore. E similmente osserva tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: [son sempre] a due a due, l'una opposta all'altra.
16 I awaked up last of all, as one that gathereth after the grapegatherers: by the blessing of the Lord I profited, and tred my winepress like a gatherer of grapes.	16 Or io mi son levato Pulitino [tra i cultori della sapienza], e come uno che racimola dietro i vendemmiatori.
17 Consider that I laboured not for myself only, but for all them that seek learning.	17 Nella benedizione del Signore ho sperato, e come uno che vendemmia ho riempito il tino.
18 Hear me, O ye great men of the people, and hearken with your ears, ye rulers of the congregation.	18 Vedete come non per me solo ho lavorato, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.
19 Give not thy son and wife, thy brother and friend, power over thee while thou livest, and give not thy goods to another: lest it repent thee, and thou intreat for the same again.	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e voi, che presiedete alla società, prestate orecchio.
20 As long as thou livest and hast breath in thee, give not thyself over to any.	20 Al figliuolo e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar braccio su te durante la tua vita. E non abbandonare ad altri le tue ricchezze, perchè tu non abbia a pentirtene e supplicare per riaverle.
21 For better it is that thy children should seek to thee, than that thou shouldest stand to their courtesy.	21 Fintantoché tu vivi e respiri, che nessuno pigli il tuo posto.
22 In all thy works keep to thyself the preeminence; leave not a stain in thine honour.	22 Meglio è che i figliuoli preghino te, che tu debba guardare [in supplice attesa] alle mani de' tuoi figliuoli.
23 At the time when thou shalt end thy days, and finish thy life, distribute thine inheritance.	23 In tutte le tue azioni resta tu il padrone:
24 Fodder, a wand, and burdens, are for the ass; and bread, correction, and work, for a servant. .	24 non imprimer macchia alla tua riputazione. Sul punto di finire i giorni di tua vita, e nell'ora della tua morte, [allora] distribuisci la tua eredità,
25 If thou set thy servant to labour, thou shalt find rest: but if thou let him go idle, he shall seek liberty.	25 pasto, bastone e soma all'asino: pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo.
26 A yoke and a collar do bow the neck: so are tortures and torments for an evil servant.	26 Questi lavora [solo] se castigato, e cerca il riposo; lasciagli le mani sciolte, e cercherà la libertà.
27 Send him to labour, that he be not idle; for idleness teacheth much evil.	27 Il giogo e la briglia fan piegare il collo rigido, e le continue fatiche domano lo schiavo;
28 Set him to work, as is fit for him: if he be not obedient, put on more heavy fetters.	28 per lo schiavo cattivo la tortura e i ceppi! Immergilo nel lavoro, che non stia ozioso;
29 But be not excessive toward any; and without discretion do nothing.	29 perché di molto male l'ozio é maestro.
30 If thou have a servant, let him be unto thee as thyself, because thou hast bought him with a price.	30 Mettilo al lavoro, come a lui si conviene: e se non t'obbedisce, domalo co' ceppi a' piedi. Ma non eccedere verso nessun uomo, e senza diritto non far nulla di grave,
31 If thou have a servant, entreat him as a brother: for thou hast need of him, as of thine own soul: if thou entreat him evil, and he run from thee, which way wilt thou go to seek him?	31 Se hai uno schiavo fedele, sia per te come l'anima tua, trattalo come un fratello: perché col sangue dell'anima l'hai comprato.
32 []	32 Se ingiustamente lo maltratti, si darà alla fuga.
33 []	33 E se piglia e se ne va, non saprai a chi dimandarne, né per qual via andarne in cerca.
