Psalms 107

1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.	1 Louez le Seigneur car il est bon, éternel est son amour!
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;	2 Dites-le, vous qu’il a rachetés, vous qu’il a repris à l’adversaire,
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.	3 vous qu’il a rassemblés de toutes les terres, du levant et du couchant, du midi et du nord!
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.	4 Ils erraient par le désert, au long des steppes, sans trouver le chemin d’une ville d’étape.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.	5 Ils avaient faim; la soif surtout faisait défaillir en eux leur âme.
6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.	6 Mais dans l’angoisse ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les tira de leur détresse.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.	7 Il les fit cheminer par un droit chemin jusqu’à trouver une ville où pouvoir s’arrêter.
8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!	8 Qu’ils célèbrent le Seigneur pour sa grâce, pour ses miracles en faveur des humains!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.	9 Car il a désaltéré la gorge assoiffée, il a comblé de biens les affamés.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;	10 Ils étaient là en un monde de ténèbres, rivés à la misère, rivés à leurs fers,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:	11 pour n’avoir pas écouté les paroles de Dieu, pour avoir méprisé les avis du Très-Haut.
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.	12 Il les avait brisés par les épreuves, ils chancelaient et nul ne les secourait.
13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.	13 Mais dans l’angoisse ils crièrent vers le Seigneur: lui les tira de leur détresse.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.	14 Il les fit sortir du noir, des ténèbres: il avait rompu leurs chaînes!
15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!	15 Qu’ils célèbrent le Seigneur pour sa grâce, pour ses miracles en faveur des humains!
16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.	16 Car il a brisé les portes de bronze, il a mis en pièces les verrous de fer.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.	17 Ils faisaient les fous sur les chemins du péché, puis ils devaient payer leurs fautes.
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.	18 Ils ne supportaient plus aucun aliment, ils étaient arrivés aux portes de la mort.
19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.	19 Mais dans l’angoisse ils crièrent vers le Seigneur et il les tira de leur détresse.
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.	20 Il envoya sa parole: elle les remit sur pied et les fit échapper à la tombe.
21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!	21 Qu’ils célèbrent le Seigneur pour sa grâce, pour ses miracles en faveur des humains!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.	22 Qu’ils lui offrent un sacrifice de louange, que dans leur joie ils disent et proclament ses œuvres,
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;	23 ceux qui descendent en mer sur des navires, pour leur négoce au-delà de l’océan!
24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.	24 Ceux-là ont vu le travail du Seigneur et ses miracles sur les abîmes.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.	25 Car à son ordre une bourrasque s’est levée, qui soulevait les vagues de la mer.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.	26 Portés aux cieux, retombant dans les abîmes, leur âme fondait dans les malaises.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.	27 Pris de vertige, ils titubaient comme un ivrogne, leur sagesse était toute avalée.
28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.	28 Mais dans l’angoisse ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les tira de leur détresse.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.	29 Il rétablit le calme après la tempête, il apaisa les flots.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.	30 Quelle joie pour eux quand l’onde fut tranquille, et qu’il les mena au port désiré!
31 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!	31 Qu’ils célèbrent le Seigneur pour sa grâce, pour ses miracles en faveur des humains!
32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.	32 Qu’ils l’exaltent dans l’assemblée du peuple et disent ses louanges au conseil des Anciens.
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;	33 Il épuise le fleuve et c’est le désert, là où étaient les sources, il n’y a que la steppe;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.	34 les riches terres se couvrent de sel pour les crimes de leurs habitants.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.	35 Il crée un lac au milieu du désert, et la terre aride se voit irriguée,
36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;	36 pour qu’y habitent ceux qui avaient faim, et qu’ils y bâtissent leur cité.
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.	37 Ils ensemencent leurs champs et plantent des vignes, ils en récoltent les fruits.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.	38 Il les bénit pour qu’ils se multiplient, et leur bétail ne dépérit pas.
39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.	39 Car ils étaient amoindris, prostrés, plongés dans le malheur et la peine.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.	40 Mais lui, qui déverse le mépris sur les grands et fait qu’ils se perdent en un désert sans chemin,
41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.	41 il relève le pauvre en sa misère: sa famille prospère et se multiplie.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.	42 Que l’homme droit regarde et se réjouisse, mais tout ce qui est vil ne pourra que se taire.
43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.	43 Qui aura la sagesse de méditer ces choses, qui saura reconnaître les bontés du Seigneur?
