1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	1 Yahvé parla à Moïse:
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baal-zephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.	2 “Tu ordonneras aux Israélites de changer de route et de camper devant Pi-Hahirot, entre Migdol et la mer, vis-à-vis de Baal-Séfon. Vous camperez en face de ce lieu, au bord de la mer.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.	3 Le Pharaon se dira sûrement ceci: Les Israélites se sont perdus dans le désert et le désert s’est refermé sur eux.
4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.	4 Je ferai alors que le Pharaon s’endurcisse et vous poursuive, et je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon et de toute son armée. Alors les Égyptiens sauront que je suis Yahvé.” Ils firent donc ainsi.
5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?	5 Quand on annonça au roi d’Égypte que le peuple s’était enfui, le Pharaon et ses serviteurs ne pensèrent plus pareil à propos du peuple. “Qu’avons-nous fait?” dirent-ils, “nous avons laissé partir Israël, il ne nous servira plus!”
6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:	6 Le Pharaon attela son char et entraîna son peuple avec lui.
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.	7 Il prit 600 chars d’élite, tous les chars d’Égypte avec des voltigeurs pour chacun.
8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.	8 Yahvé avait endurci le cœur du Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et il se lança à la poursuite des Israélites qui s’en allaient la tête haute.
9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.	9 Les Égyptiens se lancèrent donc à leur poursuite et les rejoignirent alors qu’ils campaient près de la mer. Tous les chevaux et les chars du Pharaon, ses cavaliers et son armée étaient là près de Pi-Hahirot, en face de Baal-Séfon.
10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.	10 Le Pharaon approchait. Les Israélites levèrent les yeux et virent les Égyptiens qui s’avançaient sur leurs traces. Alors, épouvantés, les Israélites crièrent vers Yahvé.
11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?	11 Ils dirent à Moïse: “N’y avait-il pas assez de tombeaux en Égypte pour que tu nous emmènes mourir au désert? Tu nous a bien aidés en nous faisant sortir d’Égypte!
12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.	12 Nous te le disions déjà en Égypte: Laisse-nous servir les Égyptiens! Mieux vaut pour nous servir l’Égypte que mourir dans le désert.”
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.	13 Moïse répondit au peuple: “N’ayez pas peur, tenez bon! Regardez simplement comment Yahvé sauve, voyez ce qu’il va faire pour vous aujourd’hui. Les Égyptiens que vous voyez aujourd’hui, vous ne les reverrez plus jamais,
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.	14 Yahvé combattra à votre place et vous, vous n’aurez qu’à regarder!”
15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:	15 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Pourquoi cries-tu vers moi? Dis aux Israélites de se mettre en route.
16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.	16 Puis lève ton bâton, étends la main vers la mer et coupe-la en deux: les Israélites passeront au milieu de la mer, à pied sec!
17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.	17 “Je ferai que les Égyptiens s’obstinent à continuer derrière eux, et alors je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon et de toute son armée, de ses chars et de ses cavaliers.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.	18 Les Égyptiens sauront que je suis Yahvé quand je me couvrirai de gloire aux dépens du Pharaon, de ses chars et de ses cavaliers.”
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:	19 L’ange de Dieu qui marchait en avant de la troupe d’Israël, se déplaça et passa derrière eux. La colonne de nuée qui était en avant passa aussi derrière eux
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.	20 et se plaça entre le camp d’Égypte et le camp d’Israël; mais la nuée était sombre du côté des Égyptiens et lumineuse du côté d’Israël. Ils ne s’approchèrent pas les uns des autres durant toute la nuit.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.	21 Moïse étendit la main sur la mer et durant toute la nuit Yahvé fit souffler sur la mer un fort vent d’est: il mit ainsi la mer à sec. Les eaux s’ouvrirent:
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.	22 les Israélites passèrent au milieu de la mer à pied sec; les eaux formaient comme un mur à leur droite et à leur gauche.
23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.	23 Les Égyptiens qui les poursuivaient entrèrent aussi derrière eux au milieu de la mer, avec tous les chevaux du Pharaon, ses chars et ses cavaliers.
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,	24 Au petit matin, de la colonne de feu et de nuée, Yahvé fixa du regard le camp des Égyptiens et il y jeta la panique.
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.	25 Il faussa les roues de leurs chars, qui n’avancèrent plus que péniblement. Les Égyptiens se dirent alors: “Fuyons devant Israël, car Yahvé combat avec eux contre l’Égypte!”
26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.	26 Mais Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Étends la main sur la mer, et les eaux reviendront sur les Égyptiens, sur leurs chars et leurs cavaliers.”
27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.	27 Alors Moïse étendit la main sur la mer. Au petit matin la mer revint à sa place et, comme les Égyptiens s’enfuyaient devant elle, Yahvé les culbuta au milieu de la mer.
28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.	28 Les eaux revinrent et recouvrirent les chars, les cavaliers et toute l’armée du Pharaon qui étaient entrés dans la mer à la suite des Israélites: pas un d’entre eux n’échappa.
29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.	29 Quant aux Israélites, ils passèrent à pied sec au milieu de la mer, les eaux étaient pour eux comme un mur à leur droite et à leur gauche.
30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.	30 Ce jour-là Yahvé sauva Israël de la main des Égyptiens, et Israël vit les Égyptiens morts sur le bord de la mer.
31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.	31 Israël vit les prodiges que Yahvé avait faits contre l’Égypte, et le peuple craignit Yahvé. Ils crurent en Yahvé et en Moïse, son serviteur.
