DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Unto the end, understanding for David,1 For the leader. A maskil of David,
when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul David went to the house of Achimelech2 when Doeg the Edomite went and told Saul, "David went to the house of Ahimelech."
Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity?3 Why do you glory in evil, you scandalous liar? All day long
All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit.4 you plot destruction; your tongue is like a sharpened razor, you skillful deceiver.
Thou hast loved malice more than goodness: and iniquity rather than to speak righteousness.5 You love evil rather than good, lies rather than honest speech. Selah
Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue.6 You love any word that destroys, you deceitful tongue.
Therefore will God destroy thee for ever: he will pluck thee out, and remove thee from thy dwelling place: and thy root out of the land of the living.7 Now God will strike you down, leave you crushed forever, Pluck you from your tent, uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
The just shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say:8 The righteous will look on with awe; they will jeer and say:
Behold the man that made not God his helper: But trusted in the abundance of his riches: and prevailed in his vanity.9 "That one did not take God as a refuge, but trusted in great wealth, relied on devious plots."
But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever.10 But I, like an olive tree in the house of God, trust in God's faithful love forever.
I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints.11 I will praise you always for what you have done. I will proclaim before the faithful that your name is good.
