Proverbios 6

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Hijo mío, si te has hecho garante de tu prójimo y has estrechado tu mano en favor de otro,	1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.
2 si te has enredado con tus palabras y te has dejado atrapar por tu propia boca,	2 Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.
3 entonces, hijo mío, obra sí para librarte, ya que has caído en las manos de tu prójimo: ve a echarte a sus pies e importúnalo,	3 Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:
4 no concedas descanso a tus ojos ni reposo a tus párpados;	4 Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.
5 líbrate como una gacela de la red y como un pájaro de la mano del cazador.	5 Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Fíjate en la hormiga, perezoso, observa sus costumbres y aprende a ser sabio:	6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:
7 ella, que no tiene jefe ni capataz ni dueño.	7 Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,
8 se provee de alimento en verano y junta su comida durante la cosecha.	8 Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 ¿Hasta cuándo estarás recostado, perezoso, cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?	9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?
10 «Dormir un poco, dormitar otro poco, descansar otro poco de brazos cruzados»:	10 Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:
11 así te llegará la pobreza como un salteador y la miseria como un hombre armado.	11 And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.
12 Es un infame, un malvado, el que tiene la boca llena de perversidad;	12 A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,
13 guiña el ojo, toca con los pies, hace una seña con los dedos:	13 He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.
14 en su corazón depravado maquina el mal, siempre está sembrando discordias.	14 With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.
15 Por eso, llegará su ruina de repente, será destrozado de improviso y sin remedio.	15 To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.
16 Hay seis cosas que detesta el Señor, y siete que son para él una abominación;	16 Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
17 los ojos altaneros, la lengua mentirosa y las manos que derraman sangre inocente;	17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 el corazón que trama proyectos malignos, los pies rápidos para correr hacia el mal,	18 A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,
19 el falso testigo que profiere mentiras, y el que siembra discordias entre hermanos.	19 A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
20 Observa, hijo mío, el precepto de tu padre y no rechaces la enseñanza de tu madre.	20 My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
21 Atalos a tu corazón constantemente, anúdalos a tu cuello.	21 Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck.
22 Que ellos te guíen mientras caminas, que velen sobre ti cuando estás acostado, y conversen contigo cuando despiertas.	22 When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them.
23 Porque el precepto es una lámpara, la enseñanza, una luz, y las reglas de la instrucción, un camino de vida,	23 Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 a fin de preservarte de una mala mujer y de la lengua seductora de una extraña.	24 That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.
25 No codicies su hermosura en tu corazón ni te dejes cautivar por sus miradas.	25 Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:
26 Porque el precio de una prostituta es un mendrugo de pan, pero una mujer casada anda a la pesca de una vida lujosa.	26 For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.
27 ¿Puede un hombre ponerse fuego en el pecho sin que se inflame su ropa?	27 Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?
28 ¿Se puede caminar sobre brasas sin quemarse los pies?	28 Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?
29 Eso le pasa al que se acuesta con la mujer de su prójimo: el que la toque no quedará impune.	29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her.
30 ¿Acaso no se desprecia al ladrón, aunque robe para sacar su apetito cuando tiene hambre?	30 The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:
31 Una vez descubierto, paga siete veces y tiene que entregar todos los bienes de su casa.	31 And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.
32 El que comete adulterio es un insensato, se arruina a sí mismo el que obra así:	32 But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:
33 lo que conseguirá son golpes e ignominia, y su oprobio nunca se borrará.	33 He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:
34 Porque los celos enfurecen al varón, y no tendrá compasión en el día de la venganza;	34 Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,
35 no aceptará ninguna compensación, ni querrá saber nada aunque quieras darle más.	35 Nor will he yield to any man's prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
