Primeira Epístola aos Tessalonicenses 5

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A respeito da época e do momento, não há necessidade, irmãos, de que vos escrevamos.	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 Pois vós mesmos sabeis muito bem que o dia do Senhor virá como um ladrão de noite.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 Quando os homens disserem: Paz e segurança!, então repentinamente lhes sobrevirá a destruição, como as dores à mulher grávida. E não escaparão.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Mas vós, irmãos, não estais em trevas, de modo que esse dia vos surpreenda como um ladrão.	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 Porque todos vós sois filhos da luz e filhos do dia. Não somos da noite nem das trevas.	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Não durmamos, pois, como os demais. Mas vigiemos e sejamos sóbrios.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Porque os que dormem, dormem de noite; e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Nós, ao contrário, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios. Tomemos por couraça a fé e a caridade, e por capacete a esperança da salvação.	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 Porquanto não nos destinou Deus para a ira, mas para alcançar a salvação por nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Ele morreu por nós, a fim de que nós, quer em estado de vigília, quer de sono, vivamos em união com ele.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Assim, pois, consolai-vos mutuamente e edificai-vos uns aos outros, como já o fazeis.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Suplicamo-vos, irmãos, que reconheçais aqueles que arduamente trabalham entre vós para dirigir-vos no Senhor e vos admoestar.	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 Tende para com eles singular amor, em vista do cargo que exercem. Conservai a paz entre vós.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 Pedimo-vos, porém, irmãos, corrigi os desordeiros, encorajai os tímidos, amparai os fracos e tende paciência para com todos.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Vede que ninguém pague a outro mal por mal. Antes, procurai sempre praticar o bem entre vós e para com todos.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Vivei sempre contentes.	16 Always be joyful;
17 Orai sem cessar.	17 pray constantly;
18 Em todas as circunstâncias, dai graças, porque esta é a vosso respeito a vontade de Deus em Jesus Cristo.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Não extingais o Espírito.	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 Não desprezeis as profecias.	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 Examinai tudo: abraçai o que é bom.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Guardai-vos de toda a espécie de mal.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 O Deus da paz vos conceda santidade perfeita. Que todo o vosso ser, espírito, alma e corpo, seja conservado irrepreensível para a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo!	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Fiel é aquele que vos chama, e o cumprirá.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Irmãos, orai também por nós.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Saudai a todos os irmãos com o ósculo santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Peço-vos encarecidamente, no Senhor, que esta carta seja lida a todos os irmãos.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
