Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is with every generation.1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, cal on his name, proclaim his deeds to the peoples!
Who will declare the powers of the Lord? Who make a hearing for all his praises?2 Sing to him, make music for him, recount all his wonders!
Blessed are those who keep judgment and who do justice at all times.3 Glory in his holy name, let the hearts that seek Yahweh rejoice!
Remember us, O Lord, with good will for your people. Visit us with your salvation,4 Seek Yahweh and his strength, tirelessly seek his presence!
so that we may see the goodness of your elect, so that we may rejoice in the joy of your nation, so that you may be praised along with your inheritance.5 Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders, the judgements he has spoken.
We have sinned, as have our fathers. We have acted unjustly; we have wrought iniquity.6 Stock of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob whom he chose!
Our fathers did not understand your miracles in Egypt. They did not remember the multitude of your mercies. And they provoked you, while going up to the sea, even the Red Sea.7 He is Yahweh our God, his judgements touch the whole world.
And he saved them for the sake of his name, so that he might make known his power.8 He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he laid down for a thousand generations,
And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up. And he led them into the abyss, as if into a desert.9 which he concluded with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
And he saved them from the hand of those who hated them. And he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.10 He established it as a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel,
And the water covered those who troubled them. Not one of them remained.11 saying, 'To you I give a land, Canaan, your allotted birthright.'
And they believed his words, and they sang his praises.12 When they were insignificant in numbers, a handful of strangers in the land,
As soon as they had finished, they forgot his works, and they would not endure his counsel.13 wandering from country to country, from one kingdom and nation to another,
And they coveted their desire in the desert, and they tempted God in a waterless place.14 he al owed no one to oppress them; for their sake he instructed kings,
And he granted to them their request, and he sent abundance into their souls.15 'Do not touch my anointed ones, to my prophets you may do no harm.'
And they provoked Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.16 He cal ed down famine on the land, he took away their food supply;
The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, and it covered the congregation of Abiram.17 he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.
And a fire broke out in their congregation. A flame burned up the sinners.18 So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons.
And they fashioned a calf at Horeb, and they adored a graven image.19 In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true.
And they exchanged their glory for the likeness of a calf that eats hay.20 The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free;
They forgot God, who saved them, who did great things in Egypt:21 he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of al he possessed,
miracles in the land of Ham, terrible things at the Red Sea.22 to instruct his princes as he saw fit, to teach his counsel ors wisdom.
And he said that he would destroy them, yet Moses, his elect, stood firm before him in the breach, in order to avert his wrath, lest he destroy them.23 Then Israel migrated to Egypt, Jacob settled in the country of Ham.
And they held the desirable land to be nothing. They did not trust in his word.24 He made his people increase in numbers, he gave them more strength than their enemies,
And they murmured in their tabernacles. They did not heed the voice of the Lord.25 whose heart he turned to hate his own people, to double-cross his servants.
And he lifted up his hand over them, in order to prostrate them in the desert,26 He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, the man of his choice.
and in order to cast their offspring among the nations, and to scatter them among the regions.27 They worked there the wonders he commanded, marvels in the country of Ham.
And they were initiated into Baal of Peor, and they ate the sacrifices of the dead.28 Darkness he sent, and darkness fel , but that nation defied his orders.
And they provoked him with their inventions, and ruination was multiplied in them.29 He turned their rivers to blood, and kil ed al the fish in them.
Then Phinehas stood up and placated him: and so the violent disturbance ceased.30 Their country was overrun with frogs, even in the royal apartments;
And it was reputed to him unto justice, from generation to generation, even forever.31 at his word came flies, and mosquitoes throughout the country.
And they provoked him at the Waters of Contradiction, and Moses was afflicted because of them,32 He gave them hail as their rain, flames of fire in their land;
for they exasperated his spirit. And so he divided them with his lips.33 he blasted their vine and their fig tree, and shattered the trees of the country.
They did not destroy the nations, about which the Lord had spoken to them.34 At his word came locusts, hoppers beyond al counting;
And they were mixed among the Gentiles. And they learned their works,35 they devoured every green thing in the land, devoured al the produce of the soil.
and they served their graven images, and it became a scandal to them.36 He struck al the first-born in their land, the flower of all their manhood;
And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.37 he led Israel out with silver and gold; in their tribes there was none who stumbled.
And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters, which they sacrificed to the graven images of Canaan. And the land was infected with bloodshed,38 Egypt was glad at their leaving, for terror of Israel had seized them.
and was contaminated with their works. And they fornicated according to their own inventions.39 He spread out a cloud to cover them, and fire to light up the night.
And the Lord became furiously angry with his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.40 They asked and he brought them quails, food from heaven to their hearts' content;
And he delivered them into the hands of the nations. And those who hated them became rulers over them.41 he opened a rock, the waters gushed out, and flowed in dry ground as a river.
And their enemies afflicted them, and they were humbled under their hands.42 Faithful to his sacred promise, given to his servant Abraham,
Many times, he delivered them. Yet they provoked him with their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.43 he led out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.
And he saw that they were in tribulation, and he heard their prayer.44 He gave them the territories of nations, they reaped the fruit of other people's labours,
And he was mindful of his covenant, and he repented according to the multitude of his mercies.45 on condition that they kept his statutes, and remained obedient to his laws.
And he provided for them with mercies, in the sight of all those who had seized them.
Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may confess your holy name and glory in your praise.
Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, from ages past, even to all ages. And let all the people say: Amen. Amen.
