CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINDIODATI
Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is with every generation.1 CELEBRATE il Signore; predicate il suo Nome; Fate assapere i suoi fatti fra i popoli.
Who will declare the powers of the Lord? Who make a hearing for all his praises?2 Cantategli, salmeggiategli, Ragionate di tutte le sue maraviglie.
Blessed are those who keep judgment and who do justice at all times.3 Gloriatevi nel Nome della sua santità; Rallegrisi il cuor di coloro che cercano il Signore.
Remember us, O Lord, with good will for your people. Visit us with your salvation,4 Cercate il Signore, e la sua forza; Cercate del continuo la sua faccia.
so that we may see the goodness of your elect, so that we may rejoice in the joy of your nation, so that you may be praised along with your inheritance.5 Ricordate le sue maraviglie ch’egli ha fatte; I suoi miracoli e i giudicii della sua bocca;
We have sinned, as have our fathers. We have acted unjustly; we have wrought iniquity.6 O voi, progenie d’Abrahamo, suo servitore; Figliuoli di Giacobbe, suoi eletti.
Our fathers did not understand your miracles in Egypt. They did not remember the multitude of your mercies. And they provoked you, while going up to the sea, even the Red Sea.7 Egli è il Signore Iddio nostro; I suoi giudicii son per tutta la terra
And he saved them for the sake of his name, so that he might make known his power.8 Egli si ricorda in eterno del suo patto, E in mille generazioni della parola ch’egli ha comandata;
And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up. And he led them into the abyss, as if into a desert.9 Del suo patto, ch’egli fece con Abrahamo; E del suo giuramento, ch’egli fece ad Isacco;
And he saved them from the hand of those who hated them. And he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.10 Il quale egli confermò a Giacobbe per istatuto, E ad Israele per patto eterno;
And the water covered those who troubled them. Not one of them remained.11 Dicendo: Io ti darò il paese di Canaan, Per sorte della vostra eredità.
And they believed his words, and they sang his praises.12 Quantunque fosser ben poca gente, E forestieri in esso.
As soon as they had finished, they forgot his works, and they would not endure his counsel.13 E mentre essi andavano da una gente ad un’altra, Da un regno ad un altro popolo,
And they coveted their desire in the desert, and they tempted God in a waterless place.14 Egli non permise che alcuno li oppressasse; Anzi gastigò eziandio dei re per amor loro,
And he granted to them their request, and he sent abundance into their souls.15 E disse: Non toccate i miei unti, E non fate alcun male a’ miei profeti.
And they provoked Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.16 Poi egli chiamò la fame sopra la terra; E ruppe tutto il sostegno del pane.
The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, and it covered the congregation of Abiram.17 Egli aveva mandato dinanzi a loro un uomo, Cioè Giuseppe, che fu venduto per servo;
And a fire broke out in their congregation. A flame burned up the sinners.18 I cui piedi furono serrati ne’ ceppi; La cui persona fu messa ne’ ferri.
And they fashioned a calf at Horeb, and they adored a graven image.19 La parola del Signore lo tenne al cimento, Fino al tempo che venne ciò ch’egli aveva detto.
And they exchanged their glory for the likeness of a calf that eats hay.20 Allora il re mandò a farlo sciorre; Il dominator di popoli mandò a largheggiarlo.
They forgot God, who saved them, who did great things in Egypt:21 Egli lo costituì padrone sopra la sua casa, E rettore sopra tutto il suo stato;
miracles in the land of Ham, terrible things at the Red Sea.22 Per tenere a freno i suoi principi a suo senno; E per dare ammaestramento a’ suoi anziani.
And he said that he would destroy them, yet Moses, his elect, stood firm before him in the breach, in order to avert his wrath, lest he destroy them.23 Poi Israele entrò in Egitto; E Giacobbe dimorò come forestiere nel paese di Cam.
And they held the desirable land to be nothing. They did not trust in his word.24 E Iddio fece grandemente moltiplicare il suo popolo; E lo rendè più possente che i suoi nemici
And they murmured in their tabernacles. They did not heed the voice of the Lord.25 Egli rivolse il cuor loro a odiare il suo popolo, A macchinar frode contro a’ suoi servitori.
And he lifted up his hand over them, in order to prostrate them in the desert,26 Egli mandò Mosè, suo servitore; Ed Aaronne, il quale egli aveva eletto.
and in order to cast their offspring among the nations, and to scatter them among the regions.27 Essi eseguirono fra loro i miracoli ch’egli aveva loro detti, E i suoi prodigi nella terra di Cam.
And they were initiated into Baal of Peor, and they ate the sacrifices of the dead.28 Egli mandò le tenebre, e fece oscurar l’aria; Ed essi non furono ribelli alle sue parole.
And they provoked him with their inventions, and ruination was multiplied in them.29 Egli cangiò le acque loro in sangue, E fece morire il lor pesce.
Then Phinehas stood up and placated him: and so the violent disturbance ceased.30 La terra loro produsse rane, Ch’entrarono fin nelle camere de’ loro re.
And it was reputed to him unto justice, from generation to generation, even forever.31 Alla sua parola venne una mischia d’insetti, E pidocchi in tutte le lor contrade.
And they provoked him at the Waters of Contradiction, and Moses was afflicted because of them,32 Egli mutò le lor pioggie in gragnuola, E in fuoco divampante nel lor paese;
for they exasperated his spirit. And so he divided them with his lips.33 E percosse le lor vigne, e i lor fichi; E fracassò gli alberi della lor contrada.
They did not destroy the nations, about which the Lord had spoken to them.34 Alla sua parola vennero locuste, E bruchi senza numero;
And they were mixed among the Gentiles. And they learned their works,35 Che rosero tutta l’erba nel lor paese, E mangiarono il frutto della lor terra.
and they served their graven images, and it became a scandal to them.36 Poi egli percosse ogni primogenito nel lor paese, Le primizie d’ogni lor forza.
And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.37 E condusse fuori Israele con oro e con argento; E non vi fu alcuno, fra le sue tribù, che fosse fiacco.
And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters, which they sacrificed to the graven images of Canaan. And the land was infected with bloodshed,38 Gli Egizi si rallegrarono della lor partita; Perciocchè lo spavento di essi era caduto sopra loro.
and was contaminated with their works. And they fornicated according to their own inventions.39 Egli distese la nuvola, per coverta; Ed accese un fuoco, per alluminarli di notte.
And the Lord became furiously angry with his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.40 Alla lor richiesta egli addusse delle quaglie, E li saziò del pane del cielo.
And he delivered them into the hands of the nations. And those who hated them became rulers over them.41 Egli aperse la roccia, e ne colarono acque; Rivi corsero per i luoghi aridi.
And their enemies afflicted them, and they were humbled under their hands.42 Perciocchè egli si ricordò della parola della sua santità, Detta ad Abrahamo, suo servitore;
Many times, he delivered them. Yet they provoked him with their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.43 E trasse fuori il suo popolo con allegrezza, E i suoi eletti con giubilo;
And he saw that they were in tribulation, and he heard their prayer.44 E diede loro i paesi delle genti; Ed essi possedettero le fatiche de’ popoli;
And he was mindful of his covenant, and he repented according to the multitude of his mercies.45 Acciocchè osservassero i suoi statuti, E guardassero le sue leggi. Alleluia
And he provided for them with mercies, in the sight of all those who had seized them.
Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may confess your holy name and glory in your praise.
Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, from ages past, even to all ages. And let all the people say: Amen. Amen.
