1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	1 Il figlio saggio è la consolazione del padre, mentre il figlio stolto è l'afflizione della madre.
2 Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but virtue saves from death.	2 A nulla gioveranno i tesori male acquistati, ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.
3 The LORD permits not the just to hunger, but the craving of the wicked he thwarts.	3 Il Signore non lascerà deluse le brame del giusto, ma sventerà le insidie degli empi.
4 The slack hand impoverishes, but the hand of the diligent enriches.	4 La mano pigra produce miseria, ma il braccio operoso accumula ricchezze. Chi s'appoggia a menzogne si pasce di vento, ed è come se corresse dietro a uccelli che volano.
5 A son who fills the granaries in summer is a credit; a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.	5 Chi fa le sue provvisioni al tempo della messe è saggio figliolo; chi poltrisce nell'estate si fa disonore.
6 Blessings are for the head of the just, but a rod for the back of the fool.	6 Sopra il capo elei giusti scendono le benedizioni del Signore, ma l'iniquità ricopre la faccia degli empi.
7 The memory of the just will be blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 La memoria del giusto è benedetta, invece marcirà il nome degli empi.
8 A wise man heeds commands, but a prating fool will be overthrown.	8 L'uomo saggio accetta gli avvertimenti, ma lo stolto è flagellato dai labbri.
9 He who walks honestly walks securely, but he whose ways are crooked will fare badly.	9 Chi procede con rettitudine va sicuro, ma chi prendo vie perverse sarà scoperto.
10 He who winks at a fault causes trouble, but he who frankly reproves promotes peace.	10 Chi strizza l'occhio farà del male, e lo stolto sarà flagellato dalle labbra.
11 A fountain of life is the mouth of the just, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 Sorgente di vita è la bocca del giusto, ma la bocca degli empi racchiude iniquità.
12 Hatred stirs up disputes, but love covers all offenses.	12 L'odio eccita le contese: la carità ricopre tutti i peccati.
13 On the lips of the intelligent is found wisdom, (but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence).	13 Sulle labbra del saggio si trova la sapienza, e la verga sul dorso di chi non ha giudizio.
14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool is imminent ruin.	14 I saggi nascondono il loro sapere, la bocca dello stolto è vicina alla confusione.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruination of the lowly is their poverty.	15 I beni del ricco sono la sua città forte, la paura dei poveri viene dalla loro miseria.
16 The just man's recompense leads to life, the gains of the wicked, to sin.	16 Il lavoro del giusto è per la vita, i guadagni dell'empio vanno nel peccato.
17 A path to life is his who heeds admonition, but he who disregards reproof goes astray.	17 Chi tien conto della disciplina, è nella via della vita, chi non cura la correzione è fuori di strada.
18 It is the lips of the liar that conceal hostility; but he who spreads accusations is a fool.	18 Le labbra bugiarde nascondono l'odio, chi dice contumelie è un insensato.
19 Where words are many, sin is not wanting; but he who restrains his lips does well.	19 Nel molto parlare non roancherà il peccato, ma chi sa frenare le sue labbra ha somma prudenza.
20 Like choice silver is the just man's tongue; the heart of the wicked is of little worth.	20 La lingua del giusto è come argento fino, ma il cuore degli empi non vai niente.
21 The just man's lips nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Le labbra del giusto istruiscono moltissimi; chi non ha ricevuto istruzione morirà por mancanza di giudizio.
22 It is the LORD'S blessing that brings wealth, and no effort can substitute for it.	22 La benedizione di Dio è quella che fa ricchi, e non avrà per compagno l'afflizione.
23 Crime is the entertainment of the fool; so is wisdom for the man of sense.	23 Come per gioco lo stolto fa i delitti, ma la sapienza dell'uomo è la prudenza.
24 What the wicked man fears will befall him, but the desire of the just will be granted.	24 Cadrà addosso all'empio ciò che egli paventa; ai giusti sarà dato quello che desiderano.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked man is no more; but the just man is established forever.	25 Come tempesta che passa sparirà l'empio, ma il giusto resterà come base eterna.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, is the sluggard to those who use him as a messenger.	26 Come l'aceto ai denti e il fumo agli occhi, cosi il pigro per quelli che lo hanno mandato.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are brief.	27 Il timore del Signore allunga la vita, ma gli anni degli empi saranno accorciati.
28 The hope of the just brings them joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 L'attesa dei giusti unirà nella gioia, ma la speranza degli empi andrà in fumo.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him who walks honestly, but to evildoers, their downfall.	29 La via del Signore è la forza del semplice e lo spavento dei malfattori.
30 The just man will never be disturbed, but the wicked will not abide in the land.	30 Il giusto non vacillerà in eterno, ma gli empi non dimoreranno nel paese.
31 The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 La bocca del giusto darà sapienza, la lingua dei malvagi sarà estirpata.
32 The lips of the just know how to please, but the mouth of the wicked, how to pervert.	32 Le labbra del giusto considerano cose gradite, e la bocca degli empi le cose perverse.
