1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	1 Proverbi di Salomone. Il figlio saggio allieta il padre, il figlio stolto contrista sua madre.
2 Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but virtue saves from death.	2 I tesori male acquistati non giovano, ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.
3 The LORD permits not the just to hunger, but the craving of the wicked he thwarts.	3 Il Signore non lascia che il giusto soffra la fame, ma respinge la cupidigia dei perfidi.
4 The slack hand impoverishes, but the hand of the diligent enriches.	4 La mano pigra rende poveri, la mano operosa arricchisce.
5 A son who fills the granaries in summer is a credit; a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.	5 Chi raccoglie d’estate è previdente e chi dorme al tempo della mietitura è uno svergognato.
6 Blessings are for the head of the just, but a rod for the back of the fool.	6 Le benedizioni del Signore sul capo del giusto, la bocca degli empi nasconde violenza.
7 The memory of the just will be blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 La memoria del giusto è in benedizione, il nome degli empi marcisce.
8 A wise man heeds commands, but a prating fool will be overthrown.	8 Chi è saggio di cuore accetta i precetti, chi è stolto di labbra va in rovina.
9 He who walks honestly walks securely, but he whose ways are crooked will fare badly.	9 Chi cammina nell’integrità va sicuro, chi tiene vie tortuose sarà smascherato.
10 He who winks at a fault causes trouble, but he who frankly reproves promotes peace.	10 Chi chiude un occhio causa dolore, chi riprende a viso aperto procura pace.
11 A fountain of life is the mouth of the just, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 Fonte di vita è la bocca del giusto, la bocca degli empi nasconde violenza.
12 Hatred stirs up disputes, but love covers all offenses.	12 L’odio suscita litigi, l’amore ricopre ogni colpa.
13 On the lips of the intelligent is found wisdom, (but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence).	13 Sulle labbra dell’intelligente si trova la sapienza, ma il bastone è per la schiena dello stolto.
14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool is imminent ruin.	14 I saggi fanno tesoro della scienza, ma la bocca dello stolto è una rovina imminente.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruination of the lowly is their poverty.	15 I beni del ricco sono la sua roccaforte, la rovina dei poveri è la loro miseria.
16 The just man's recompense leads to life, the gains of the wicked, to sin.	16 Il salario del giusto serve per la vita, il guadagno dell’empio è per i vizi.
17 A path to life is his who heeds admonition, but he who disregards reproof goes astray.	17 Cammina verso la vita chi accetta la correzione, chi trascura il rimprovero si smarrisce.
18 It is the lips of the liar that conceal hostility; but he who spreads accusations is a fool.	18 Dissimulano l’odio le labbra bugiarde, chi diffonde calunnie è uno stolto.
19 Where words are many, sin is not wanting; but he who restrains his lips does well.	19 Nel molto parlare non manca la colpa, chi frena le labbra è saggio.
20 Like choice silver is the just man's tongue; the heart of the wicked is of little worth.	20 Argento pregiato è la lingua del giusto, il cuore degli empi vale ben poco.
21 The just man's lips nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Le labbra del giusto nutrono molti, gli stolti invece muoiono per la loro stoltezza.
22 It is the LORD'S blessing that brings wealth, and no effort can substitute for it.	22 La benedizione del Signore arricchisce, non vi aggiunge nulla la fatica.
23 Crime is the entertainment of the fool; so is wisdom for the man of sense.	23 Per lo stolto compiere il male è un divertimento, così coltivare la sapienza per l’uomo prudente.
24 What the wicked man fears will befall him, but the desire of the just will be granted.	24 Al malvagio sopraggiunge il male che teme, il desiderio dei giusti invece è soddisfatto.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked man is no more; but the just man is established forever.	25 Passa la bufera e l’empio non c’è più, il giusto invece resta saldo per sempre.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, is the sluggard to those who use him as a messenger.	26 Come l’aceto ai denti e il fumo agli occhi, così è il pigro per chi gli affida una missione.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are brief.	27 Il timore del Signore prolunga i giorni, ma gli anni dei malvagi sono accorciati.
28 The hope of the just brings them joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 L’attesa dei giusti è gioia, ma la speranza degli empi svanirà.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him who walks honestly, but to evildoers, their downfall.	29 La via del Signore è una fortezza per l’uomo integro, ma è una rovina per i malfattori.
30 The just man will never be disturbed, but the wicked will not abide in the land.	30 Il giusto non vacillerà mai, ma gli empi non dureranno sulla terra.
31 The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 La bocca del giusto espande sapienza, la lingua perversa sarà tagliata.
32 The lips of the just know how to please, but the mouth of the wicked, how to pervert.	32 Le labbra del giusto conoscono benevolenza, la bocca degli empi cose perverse.
