1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	1 Sprichwörter Salomos: Ein kluger Sohn macht dem Vater Freude, ein dummer Sohn ist der Kummer seiner Mutter.
2 Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but virtue saves from death.	2 Unrecht Gut gedeiht nicht, Gerechtigkeit aber rettet vor dem Tod.
3 The LORD permits not the just to hunger, but the craving of the wicked he thwarts.	3 Das Verlangen des Gerechten sättigt der Herr, die Gier der Frevler stößt er zurück.
4 The slack hand impoverishes, but the hand of the diligent enriches.	4 Lässige Hand bringt Armut, fleißige Hand macht reich.
5 A son who fills the granaries in summer is a credit; a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.	5 Wer im Sommer sammelt, ist ein kluger Mensch; in Schande gerät, wer zur Erntezeit schläft.
6 Blessings are for the head of the just, but a rod for the back of the fool.	6 Segen ruht auf dem Haupt des Gerechten, im Mund der Frevler versteckt sich Gewalttat.
7 The memory of the just will be blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 Das Andenken des Gerechten ist gesegnet, der Name der Frevler vermodert.
8 A wise man heeds commands, but a prating fool will be overthrown.	8 Verständiger Sinn nimmt die Gebote an, wer Törichtes redet, kommt zu Fall.
9 He who walks honestly walks securely, but he whose ways are crooked will fare badly.	9 Wer aufrichtig seinen Weg geht, geht sicher, wer krumme Wege geht, wird durchschaut.
10 He who winks at a fault causes trouble, but he who frankly reproves promotes peace.	10 Wer mit den Augen zwinkert, schafft Leid, wer offen tadelt, stiftet Frieden.
11 A fountain of life is the mouth of the just, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 Der Mund des Gerechten ist ein Lebensquell, im Mund der Frevler versteckt sich Gewalttat.
12 Hatred stirs up disputes, but love covers all offenses.	12 Hass weckt Streit, Liebe deckt alle Vergehen zu.
13 On the lips of the intelligent is found wisdom, (but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence).	13 Auf den Lippen des Einsichtigen findet man Weisheit, auf den Rücken des Unverständigen passt der Stock.
14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool is imminent ruin.	14 Weise verbergen ihr Wissen, der Mund des Toren ist drohendes Verderben.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruination of the lowly is their poverty.	15 Dem Reichen ist seine Habe eine feste Burg, dem Armen bringt seine Armut Verderben.
16 The just man's recompense leads to life, the gains of the wicked, to sin.	16 Der Besitz des Gerechten führt zum Leben, das Einkommen des Frevlers zur Sünde.
17 A path to life is his who heeds admonition, but he who disregards reproof goes astray.	17 Den Weg zum Leben geht, wer Zucht bewahrt; wer Warnung missachtet, geht in die Irre.
18 It is the lips of the liar that conceal hostility; but he who spreads accusations is a fool.	18 Wer Hass verbirgt, heuchelt; wer Verleumdung ausstreut, ist ein Tor.
19 Where words are many, sin is not wanting; but he who restrains his lips does well.	19 Bei vielem Reden bleibt die Sünde nicht aus, wer seine Lippen zügelt, ist klug.
20 Like choice silver is the just man's tongue; the heart of the wicked is of little worth.	20 Erlesenes Silber ist die Zunge des Gerechten, das Sinnen des Frevlers ist wenig wert.
21 The just man's lips nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Die Lippen des Gerechten leiten viele, die Toren sterben an Unverstand.
22 It is the LORD'S blessing that brings wealth, and no effort can substitute for it.	22 Der Segen des Herrn macht reich, eigene Mühe tut nichts hinzu.
23 Crime is the entertainment of the fool; so is wisdom for the man of sense.	23 Des Toren Freude ist es, Böses zu tun, des Verständigen Freude, weise zu sein.
24 What the wicked man fears will befall him, but the desire of the just will be granted.	24 Was der Frevler fürchtet, kommt über ihn, was die Gerechten ersehnen, wird ihnen zuteil.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked man is no more; but the just man is established forever.	25 Wenn der Sturm daherbraust, ist der Frevler verloren, der Gerechte ist fest gegründet für immer.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, is the sluggard to those who use him as a messenger.	26 Wie Essig für die Zähne und Rauch für die Augen ist der Faule für den, der ihn schickt.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are brief.	27 Gottesfurcht bringt langes Leben, doch die Jahre der Frevler sind verkürzt.
28 The hope of the just brings them joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 Die Hoffnung der Gerechten blüht auf, die Erwartung der Frevler wird zunichte.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him who walks honestly, but to evildoers, their downfall.	29 Dem Schuldlosen ist der Herr eine Zuflucht, Verderben aber den Übeltätern.
30 The just man will never be disturbed, but the wicked will not abide in the land.	30 Der Gerechte wird niemals wanken, doch die Frevler bleiben nicht im Land wohnen.
31 The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 Der Mund des Gerechten bringt Weisheit hervor, eine Zunge voll Falschheit aber wird abgeschnitten.
32 The lips of the just know how to please, but the mouth of the wicked, how to pervert.	32 Die Lippen des Gerechten achten auf das, was gefällt, der Mund der Frevler aber auf das, was verkehrt ist.
