Job 4

1 Then spoke Eliphaz the Temanite, who said:	1 Allora rispose Elifaz Tamanite, e disse:
2 If someone attempts a word with you, will you mind? For how can anyone refrain from speaking?	2 Se noi cominceremo a parlare a te, forse molestamente lo riceverai; ma concepita la parola, tenere chi la potrebbe?
3 Behold, you have instructed many, and have made firm their feeble hands.	3 Ecco, tu hai ammaestrati molti, e le mani lasse fortificasti.
4 Your words have upheld the stumbler; you have strengthened his faltering knees.	4 Le parole tue confermarono li vacillanti, e li ginocchi tremanti confortasti.
5 But now that it comes to you, you are impatient; when it touches yourself, you are dismayed.	5 Ma ora è venuta sopra te la piaga, e se' venuto meno; toccò te, e conturbato se'.
6 Is not your piety a source of confidence, and your integrity of life your hope?	6 Dov'è la paura tua e la fortezza tua e la pazienza tua e la perfezione delle vie tue?
7 Reflect now, what innocent person perishes? Since when are the upright destroyed?	7 Ricòrdatene, io te ne priego: qual fu già mai innocente che perisse? ovvero quando li diritti guasti sono?
8 As I see it, those who plow for mischief and sow trouble, reap the same.	8 Certo io hoe veduto maggiormente coloro che danno opera alla iniquitade e sèminano li scandali e ricogliono quelli,
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his wrath they are consumed.	9 soffiante Iddio, essere periti, ed essere (arsi e) consunti collo spirito dell' ira sua.
10 Though the lion roars, though the king of beasts cries out, yet the teeth of the young lions are broken;	10 Lo ruggito del leone, e la voce della leoenessa, li denti delli figliuoli delli leoni contriti sono.
11 The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.	11 Lo tigre (cioè uno animale velocissimo) perì, perciò che non ebbe la preda, e li figliuoli de' leoni dissipati sono.
12 For a word was stealthily brought to me, and my ear caught a whisper of it.	12 Certo a me è detta una parola secreta, e quasi furtivamente ricevettero le orecchie mie le vene di quello che secretamente parlava.
13 In my thoughts during visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,	13 Nello orrore della visione di notte, quando suole lo sonno occupare li uomini,
14 Fear came upon me, and shuddering, that terrified me to the bones.	14 la paura mi tenne, e per lo tremore tutte le ossa mia spaventate sono.
15 Then a spirit passed before me, and the hair of my flesh stood up.	15 E conciosia cosa che lo spirito passasse, me presente, ispaventaronsi i peli delle mie carni.
16 It paused, but its likeness I could not discern; a figure was before my eyes, and I heard a still voice:	16 Stette alcuna imagine, il volto del quale io non conoscea, dinanzi agli occhii miei; e la voce, quasi come uno vento lento, udii.
17 "Can a man be righteous as against God? Can a mortal be blameless against his Maker?	17 Or sarà l'uomo, comparato alla similitudine di Dio, giustificato? ovvero sarà l'uomo più puro che lo fattore suo?
18 Lo, he puts no trust in his servants, and with his angels he can find fault.	18 Ecco che coloro che servono a lui, non sono fermi; e nelli angeli suoi trovò malvagitade.
19 How much more with those that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed more easily than the moth!	19 Quanto maggiormente coloro che àbitano nelle case di fango, i quali hanno lo fondamento terreno, saran consumati sì come dalla tignuola?
20 Morning or evening they may be shattered; with no heed paid to it, they perish forever.	20 Dalla mattina insino al vespro saranno tagliati; e però che niuno lo intende, in eterno periranno.
21 The pegs of their tent are plucked up; they die without knowing wisdom."	21 Ma coloro che rimaneranno, fieno tolti da loro; e morranno, e non nella sapienza.
