EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Dann wendeten wir uns der Wüste zu, brachen auf und nahmen den Weg zum Schilfmeer, wie es der Herr mir befohlen hatte. Wir umzogen lange Zeit das Gebirge Seïr.	1 “And setting out from there, we arrived at the wilderness which leads to the Red Sea, just as the Lord had spoken to me. And we encompassed Mount Seir for a long time.
2 Dann sagte der Herr zu mir:	2 And the Lord said to me:
3 Ihr seid jetzt lange genug um dieses Gebirge herumgezogen. Wendet euch jetzt nach Norden!	3 ‘You have encompassed this mountain for long enough. Go forth, toward the north.
4 Befiehl dem Volk: Ihr werdet jetzt durch das Gebiet von Stammverwandten ziehen, durch das Gebiet der Nachkommen Esaus, die in Seïr wohnen. Wenn sie Furcht vor euch zeigen, dann seid auf der Hut,	4 And instruct the people, saying: You shall cross through the borders of your brothers, the sons of Esau, who live at Seir, and they will fear you.
5 und beginnt keine Feindseligkeiten gegen sie! Von ihrem Land gebe ich euch keinen Fußbreit; denn das Gebirge Seïr habe ich für Esau zum Besitz bestimmt.	5 Therefore, take care diligently, lest you be moved against them. For I will not give to you from their land even as much as the step that one foot can tread upon, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
6 Was ihr an Getreide zum Essen braucht, kauft von ihnen für Silber; selbst das Trinkwasser beschafft euch von ihnen gegen Silber!	6 You shall buy food from them for money, and you shall eat. You shall draw water for money, and you shall drink.
7 Der Herr, dein Gott, hatte dich reich gesegnet bei der Arbeit deiner Hände. Er wusste, dass du in dieser großen Wüste unterwegs warst. Vierzig Jahre lang war der Herr, dein Gott, bei dir. Nichts hat dir gefehlt.	7 The Lord your God has blessed you in every work of your hands. The Lord your God, dwelling with you, knows your journey, how you crossed through this great wilderness over forty years, and how you have been lacking in nothing.’
8 Wir zogen also weg aus dem Gebiet in der Nähe der Söhne Esaus, unserer Stammverwandten, die in Seïr wohnen, weg vom Weg durch die Araba, von Elat und Ezjon-Geber. Wir wendeten uns (nach Norden) und zogen den Weg zur Wüste Moab entlang.	8 And when we had passed through our brothers, the sons of Esau, who were living at Seir by the way of the plain from Elath and from Eziongeber, we arrived at the way which leads to the desert of Moab.
9 Und der Herr sagte zu mir: Begegne Moab nicht feindlich, beginn keinen Kampf mit ihnen! Von ihrem Land bestimme ich dir kein Stück zum Besitz; denn Ar habe ich für die Nachkommen Lots zum Besitz bestimmt.	9 And the Lord said to me: ‘You should not fight against the Moabites, nor should you go to battle against them. For I will not give to you anything from their land, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.’
10 Einst saßen dort die Emiter, ein Volk, das groß, zahlreich und hoch gewachsen war wie die Anakiter.	10 The Emim were the first of its inhabitants, a people great and strong, and of such great height, like the race of the Anakim.
11 Wie die Anakiter galten auch sie als Rafaïter, die Moabiter aber nennen sie Emiter.	11 They were considered to be like giants, and they were like the sons of the Anakim. And, indeed, the Moabites call them: the Emim.
12 In Seïr saßen einst die Horiter, aber deren Besitz haben die Nachkommen Esaus übernommen. Als sie vordrangen, vernichteten sie die Horiter und setzten sich an deren Stelle, so wie die Israeliten es mit dem Land taten, das ihnen der Herr zum Besitz bestimmt hatte.	12 The Horites also formerly lived at Seir. When these had been driven out and destroyed, the sons of Esau lived there, just as Israel did in the land of his possession, which the Lord gave to him.
13 Und jetzt steht auf und überquert das Tal des Sered! Da überquerten wir das Tal des Sered.	13 Then, rising up so as to cross over the torrent Zered, we arrived at the place.
14 Die Zeit, die wir von Kadesch-Barnea an gewandert waren, bis wir das Tal des Sered überquerten, betrug achtunddreißig Jahre. So lange dauerte es, bis die Generation der waffenfähigen Männer vollständig ausgestorben war, sodass sich keiner von ihnen mehr im Lager befand, wie es ihnen der Herr geschworen hatte.	14 Then, from the time that we advanced from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the torrent Zered, there were thirty-eight years, until the entire generation of the men who were fit for war had been consumed out of the camp, just as the Lord had sworn.
15 Der Herr hatte seine Hand gegen sie ausgestreckt und Verwirrung unter ihnen verbreitet, bis sie ausgestorben waren, sodass sich keiner von ihnen mehr im Lager befand.	15 For his hand was against them, so that they would pass away from the midst of the camp.
16 Als alle waffenfähigen Männer ausgestorben und tot waren, sodass keiner von ihnen mehr im Volk lebte,	16 Then, after all the fighting men had fallen,
17 sagte der Herr zu mir:	17 the Lord spoke to me, saying:
18 Wenn du heute durch das Gebiet von Moab, durch Ar, ziehst,	18 ‘Today, you shall cross the borders of Moab, at the city named Ar.
19 kommst du nahe an den Ammonitern vorbei. Begegne ihnen nicht feindlich, beginne keine Feindseligkeiten gegen sie! Vom Land der Ammoniter bestimme ich dir kein Stück zum Besitz; denn ich habe es für die Nachkommen Lots zum Besitz bestimmt.	19 And when you have arrived in the vicinity of the sons of Ammon, be careful that you do not fight against them, nor should you be moved to battle. For I will not give to you from the land of the sons of Ammon, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.’
20 Auch dieses gilt als Land der Rafaïter. Einst saßen die Rafaïter darin. Die Ammoniter nennen sie die Samsummiter,	20 It was reputed to be a land of giants. And giants lived there in times past, those whom the Ammonites call the Zamzummim.
21 ein Volk, das groß, zahlreich und hoch gewachsen war wie die Anakiter. Der Herr vernichtete die Rafaïter, als die Ammoniter eindrangen. Diese übernahmen ihren Besitz und setzten sich an ihre Stelle.	21 They are a people, great and numerous, and of lofty stature, like the Anakim, whom the Lord wiped away before their face. And he caused them to live there in place of them,
22 Das war das Gleiche, was der Herr für die Nachkommen Esaus getan hat, die in Seïr sitzen. Als sie vordrangen, vernichtete er die Horiter. Die Nachkommen Esaus übernahmen ihren Besitz und setzten sich an ihre Stelle. So blieb es bis heute.	22 just as he had done for the sons of Esau, who live at Seir, wiping out the Horites and delivering their land to them, which they possess even to the present time.
23 Das Gleiche geschah mit den Awitern, die in einzelnen Dörfern bis nach Gaza hin saßen. Die Kaftoriter, die aus Kaftor ausgewandert waren, vernichteten sie und setzten sich an ihre Stelle.	23 Likewise the Hevites, who were living in small villages as far as Gaza, were expelled by the Cappadocians, who went forth from Cappadocia, and they wiped them out and lived in their place.
24 Steht auf, brecht auf und überquert das Tal des Arnon! Hiermit gebe ich Sihon, den König von Heschbon, den Amoriter, mit seinem Land in eure Gewalt. Fang an, in Besitz zu nehmen! Bei Sihon sollst du den Kampf beginnen.	24 ‘Rise up and cross the torrent Arnon! Behold, I have delivered Sihon, the king of Heshbon, the Amorite, into your hand, and so, begin to possess his land and to engage in battle against him.
25 Und ich fange heute an, den Völkern überall unter dem Himmel Schrecken und Furcht vor dir ins Gesicht zu zeichnen. Wenn sie von dir nur hören, zittern sie. Sie winden sich vor Angst, wenn sie dich sehen.	25 Today I will begin to send the terror and dread of you among the peoples who are living under all of heaven, so that, when they hear your name, they may be afraid, and may tremble in the manner of a woman giving birth, and may be gripped by anguish.’
26 Da sandte ich aus der Wüste Kedemot Boten zu Sihon, dem König von Heschbon, und ließ ihm folgendes Abkommen vorschlagen:	26 Therefore, I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon, the king of Heshbon, with peaceful words, saying:
27 Ich will durch dein Land ziehen. Ich werde mich genau an den Weg halten, ohne ihn rechts oder links zu verlassen.	27 ‘We will cross through your land. We will advance by the public way. We will not turn aside, neither to the right, nor to the left.
28 Was ich an Getreide zum Essen brauche, wirst du mir für Silber verkaufen, auch das Trinkwasser wirst du mir gegen Silber geben. Ich werde nur zu Fuß durchziehen,	28 Sell us food for a price, so that we may eat. Provide us with water for money, and so we will drink. We only ask that you allow us to pass through,
29 so wie die Nachkommen Esaus, die in Seïr wohnen, und die Moabiter, die in Ar wohnen, es mir erlaubt haben. (Das soll gelten,) bis ich über den Jordan in das Land gezogen bin, das der Herr, unser Gott, uns gibt.	29 just as the sons of Esau have done, who live at Seir, and the Moabites, who abide in Ar, until we arrive at the Jordan, and we cross to the land which the Lord our God will give to us.’
30 Doch Sihon, der König von Heschbon, weigerte sich, uns bei sich durchziehen zu lassen. Denn der Herr, dein Gott, hatte seinen Kampfgeist gestärkt und ihm Mut gemacht, um ihn in deine Gewalt zu geben, wie es inzwischen geschehen ist.	30 And Sihon, the king of Heshbon, was not willing to grant passage to us. For the Lord your God had hardened his spirit, and had fastened his heart, so that he would be delivered into your hands, just as you now see.
31 Zu mir aber sagte der Herr: Hiermit fange ich an. Ich liefere dir Sihon und sein Land aus. Du fang an, in Besitz zu nehmen! Fang mit seinem Land an!	31 And the Lord said to me: ‘Behold, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land to you. Begin to possess it.’
32 Sihon rückte mit seinem ganzen Volk gegen uns aus, um bei Jahaz zu kämpfen.	32 And Sihon went out to meet us with all his people, to battle at Jahaz.
33 Der Herr, unser Gott, lieferte ihn uns aus. Wir schlugen ihn, seine Söhne und sein ganzes Volk.	33 And the Lord our God delivered him to us. And we struck him down, with his sons and all his people.
34 Damals eroberten wir alle seine Städte. Wir weihten die ganze männliche Bevölkerung, die Frauen, die Kinder und die Greise der Vernichtung; keinen ließen wir überleben.	34 And we seized all his cities at that time, putting to death their inhabitants: men as well as women and children. We left nothing of them,
35 Als Beute behielten wir nur das Vieh und das, was wir in den eroberten Städten geplündert hatten.	35 except the cattle, which went to the share of those who plundered them. And we seized the spoils of the cities,
36 Von Aroër am Rand des Arnontals und von der Stadt, die im Tal liegt, bis hin nach Gilead gab es keine befestigte Stadt, deren Mauern für uns zu hoch waren. Alle hat uns der Herr, unser Gott, ausgeliefert.	36 from Aroer, which is above the bank of the torrent Arnon, a town which is situated in a valley, all the way to Gilead. There was not a village or city which escaped from our hands. The Lord our God delivered everything to us,
37 Nur dem Land der Ammoniter hast du dich nicht genähert, dem gesamten Randgebiet des Jabboktals und den Städten im Gebirge, also allem, was der Herr, unser Gott, uns verwehrt hatte.	37 except the land of the sons of Ammon, which we did not approach, and all that is adjacent to the torrent Jabbok, and the cities in the mountains, and all the places which the Lord our God prohibited to us.”
