Ezechiel 31

1 Am ersten Tag des dritten Monats im elften Jahr erging das Wort des Herrn an mich:	1 And it happened that, in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 Menschensohn, sag zum Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und zu seinem Gefolge:Wem war deine Größe vergleichbar?	2 “Son of man, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his people: To whom can you be compared in your greatness?
3 Auf dem Libanon stand eine [Esche] Zeder. Die Pracht ihrer Äste gab reichlichen Schatten. Hoch war ihr Wuchs und in die Wolken ragte ihr Wipfel.	3 Behold, Assur is like the cedar of Lebanon, with fair branches, and full of leaves, and of high stature, and his summit has been elevated above the thick branches.
4 Das Wasser machte sie groß. Die Flut in der Tiefe ließ sie hoch emporwachsen. Die Tiefe ließ ihre Ströme fließen rings um den Ort, wo sie gepflanzt war, sie leitete (von dort) ihre Kanäle zu allen anderen Bäumen des Feldes.	4 The waters have nourished him. The abyss has exalted him. Its rivers have flowed around his roots, and it has sent forth its streams to all the trees of the regions.
5 So war sie höher gewachsen als alle anderen Bäume des Feldes. Ihre Zweige wurden sehr zahlreich und ihre Äste breiteten sich aus wegen des Reichtums an Wasser, als sie emporwuchs.	5 Because of this, his height was exalted above all the trees of the regions, and his groves were multiplied, and his own branches were elevated, because of the many waters.
6 Alle Vögel des Himmels hatten ihr Nest in den Zweigen. Alle wilden Tiere brachten unter den Ästen ihre Jungen zur Welt. All die vielen Völker wohnten in ihrem Schatten.	6 And when he had extended his shadow, all the birds of the air made their nests in his branches, and all the beasts of the forest conceived their young under his foliage, and an assembly of the many peoples lived under his shadow.
7 Schön war sie in ihrer Größe mit ihrem breiten Geäst; denn ihre Wurzeln hatten viel Wasser.	7 And he was most beautiful in his greatness and in the expansion of his groves. For his root was near many waters.
8 Keine Zeder im Garten Gottes war ihr vergleichbar. Keine Zypresse hatte Zweige wie sie, keine Platane so mächtige Äste. Keiner der Bäume im Garten Gottes glich ihr an Schönheit.	8 The cedars in the Paradise of God were not higher than he was. The spruce trees were not equal to his summit, and the plane trees were not equal to his fullness. No tree in the Paradise of God was similar to him or to his beauty.
9 Ja, ich hatte sie herrlich gemacht mit ihren zahlreichen Zweigen. Voll Eifersucht auf sie waren im Garten Gottes alle Bäume von Eden.	9 For I made him beautiful, and dense with many branches. And all the trees of delight, which were in the Paradise of God, were jealous of him.
10 Darum - so spricht Gott, der Herr: Weil sie so hoch emporwuchs und mit ihrem Wipfel in die Wolken ragte und wegen ihrer Höhe überheblich wurde,	10 Because of this, thus says the Lord God: Since he was sublime in height, and he made his summit green and dense, and his heart was exalted because of his height,
11 deshalb liefere ich sie dem mächtigsten Herrscher der Völker aus. Er behandelt sie so, wie sie es in ihrer Schlechtigkeit verdient hat; ich beseitige sie.	11 I have delivered him into the hands of the most powerful one among the Gentiles, so that he will deal with him. I have cast him out, in accord with his impiety.
12 Fremde, die gewalttätigsten unter den Völkern, werden sie umhauen und hinwerfen. Ihre Zweige fallen auf die Berge und in alle Täler, ihre Äste zerbrechen in allen Schluchten der Erde. Alle Völker der Erde verlassen den Schatten der Zeder und lassen sie liegen.	12 And foreigners, and the most cruel among the nations, will cut him down. And they will cast him on the mountains. And his branches will fall in every steep valley, and his grove will be broken apart on every cliff of the earth. And all the peoples of the earth will withdraw from his shadow, and abandon him.
13 Auf ihren gefällten Stamm setzen sich alle Vögel des Himmels, die wilden Tiere hausen in ihren Zweigen.	13 All the birds of the air lived upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the countryside were among his branches.
14 Darum soll kein Baum mehr am Wasser emporwachsen und mit seinem Wipfel in die Wolken ragen, keiner der Bäume am Wasser soll mehr so mächtig und hoch dastehen. Denn alle werden dem Tod ausgeliefert, sie müssen hinab in die Unterwelt zu den Menschen, die ins Grab gesunken sind.	14 For this reason, none of the trees among the waters will exalt themselves because of their height, nor will they place their summits above the thick branches and foliage, nor will any of those that are irrigated stand out because of their height. For they have all been delivered unto death, to the lowest part of the earth, into the midst of the sons of men, those who descend into the pit.
15 So spricht Gott, der Herr: Wenn die Zeder in die Unterwelt stürzt, dann lasse ich die Flut in der Tiefe versiegen, ich decke sie zu; ich halte ihre Ströme zurück, sodass der Reichtum an Wasser versiegt. Ihretwegen hülle ich den Libanon in Trauer und alle Bäume des Feldes sinken in Ohnmacht.	15 Thus says the Lord God: In the day when he descended into hell, I led in grieving. I covered him with the abyss. And I held back its rivers, and I restrained the many waters. Lebanon was saddened over him, and all the trees of the field were struck together.
16 Durch das Getöse ihres Sturzes lasse ich die Völker erzittern, wenn ich den Baum in die Unterwelt stürze, hinab zu denen, die ins Grab gesunken sind. Dann trösten sich in der Unterwelt alle Bäume von Eden, die erlesenen und besten Bäume des Libanon, alle Bäume am Wasser.	16 I shook the Gentiles with the sound of his ruin, when I led him down to hell, with those who were descending into the pit. And all the trees of delights, the finest and best in Lebanon, all that were irrigated with waters, were consoled in the deepest parts of the earth.
17 Denn auch sie stürzen zusammen mit ihr in die Unterwelt, hinab zu denen, die vom Schwert erschlagen wurden. Alle aber, die im Schatten der Zeder wohnten, werden unter die Völker zerstreut.	17 For they, too, will descend with him into hell, to those who have been slain by the sword. And the arm of each one will reside under his shadow, in the midst of the nations.
18 Welcher der Bäume von Eden glich dir an Größe und Pracht? Und doch wirst du zusammen mit den Bäumen von Eden in die Unterwelt gestürzt. Dort wirst du mitten unter den Unbeschnittenen liegen, unter denen, die vom Schwert erschlagen wurden. So geht es dem Pharao und seinem ganzen Gefolge - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn.	18 To whom can you be compared, O famous and sublime one, among the trees of pleasure? Behold, you have been brought down, with the trees of pleasure, to the lowest part of the earth. You will sleep in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who have been slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh, and all his multitude, says the Lord God.”
