1 Sei nicht zu schnell mit dem Mund, ja selbst innerlich fiebere nicht, vor Gott das Wort zu ergreifen. Gott ist im Himmel, du bist auf der Erde, also mach wenig Worte!	1 Speak not any thing rashly, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
2 Im Traum schließt man viele Geschäfte ab, der Ungebildete macht viele Worte.	2 Dreams follow many cares: and in many words shall be found folly.
3 Wenn du Gott ein Gelübde machst, dann zögere nicht, es zu erfüllen. Die Ungebildeten gefallen Gott nicht: Was du gelobst, erfülle!	3 If thou hast vowed any thing to God, defer not to pay it: for an unfaithful and foolish promise displeaseth him: but whatsoever thou hast vowed, pay it.
4 Es ist besser, wenn du nichts gelobst, als wenn du etwas gelobst und nicht erfüllst.	4 And it is much better not to vow, than after a vow not to perform the things promised.
5 Lass nicht zu, dass dein Mund dein Fleisch in Sünde stürzt. Erkläre nie vor dem Boten: Es war ein Versehen. Warum soll Gott zürnen über das, was du redest, und vernichten, was deine Hände tun?	5 Give not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin: and say not before the angel: There is no providence: lest God be angry at thy words, and destroy all the works of thy hands.
6 Vielmehr, wo Träume sich mehren und Windhauch und viele Worte, da fürchte du Gott!	6 Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities, and words without number: but do thou fear God.
7 Wenn du beobachtest, dass in der Provinz die Armen ausgebeutet und Gericht und Gerechtigkeit nicht gewährt werden, dann wundere dich nicht über solche Vorgänge: Ein Mächtiger deckt den andern, hinter beiden stehen noch Mächtigere	7 If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these:
8 und es ist auf jeden Fall ein Vorteil für das Land, wenn das bebaute Feld einem König untersteht.	8 Moreover there is the king that reigneth over all the land subject to him.
9 Wer das Geld liebt, bekommt vom Geld nie genug; wer den Luxus liebt, hat nie genug Einnahmen - auch das ist Windhauch.	9 A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money: and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity.
10 Mehrt sich das Vermögen, so mehren sich auch die, die es verzehren. Was für ein Erfolg bleibt dem Besitzer? Seine Augen dürfen zusehen.	10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to eat them. And what doth it profit the owner, but that he seeth the riches with his eyes?
11 Süß ist der Schlaf des Arbeiters, ob er wenig oder viel zu essen hat. Dem Reichen raubt sein voller Bauch die Ruhe des Schlafs.	11 Sleep is sweet to a labouring man, whether he eat lttle or much: but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
12 Es gibt etwas Schlimmes, etwas wie eine Krankheit, das ich unter der Sonne beobachtet habe: wenn Reichtum, der für seinen Besitzer ängstlich gehütet wurde, diesem Schlimmes brachte.	12 There is also another grievous evil, which I have seen under the sun: riches kept to the hurt of the owner.
13 Durch ein schlechtes Geschäft ging ihm dieser Reichtum verloren. Er hatte einen Sohn gezeugt, aber jetzt hat er nichts mehr, das ihm gehört.	13 For they are lost with very great affliction: he hath begotten a son, who shall be in extremity of want.
14 Wie er aus dem Leib seiner Mutter herausgekommen ist - nackt, wie er kam, muss er wieder gehen. Von seinem Besitz darf er überhaupt nichts forttragen, nichts, das er als ihm gehörig mitnehmen könnte.	14 As he came forth naked from his mother's womb, so shall he return, and shall take nothing away with him of his labour.
15 So ist auch dies etwas Schlimmes, etwas wie eine Krankheit. Genau wie er kam, muss er gehen. Welchen Vorteil bringt es ihm, dass er sich anstrengt für den Wind?	15 A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind?
16 Auch wird er während seines ganzen restlichen Lebens sein Essen im Dunkeln einnehmen; er wird sich häufig ärgern und Krankheit und Unmut werden ihn plagen.	16 All the days of his life he eateth in darkness, and in many cares, and in misery, and sorrow.
17 Dies ist etwas, was ich eingesehen habe: Das vollkommene Glück besteht darin, dass jemand isst und trinkt und das Glück kennen lernt durch seinen eigenen Besitz, für den er sich unter der Sonne anstrengt während der wenigen Tage seines Lebens, die Gott ihm geschenkt hat. Denn das ist sein Anteil.	17 This therefore hath seemed good to me, that a man should eat and drink, and enjoy the fruit of his labour, wherewith he hath laboured under the sun, all the days of his life, which God hath given him: and this is his portion.
18 Außerdem: Immer wenn Gott einem Menschen Reichtum und Wohlstand geschenkt und ihn ermächtigt hat, davon zu essen und seinen Anteil fortzutragen und durch seinen Besitz Freude zu gewinnen, besteht das eigentliche Geschenk Gottes darin,	18 And every man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to enjoy his portion, and to rejoice of his labour: this is the gift of God.
19 dass dieser Mensch sich nicht so oft daran erinnern muss, wie wenige Tage sein Leben zählt, weil Gott ihn sich um die Freude seines Herzens bemühen lässt.	19 For he shall not much remember the days of his life, because God entertaineth his heart with delight,
