1 Als Atalja, die Mutter Ahasjas, sah, dass ihr Sohn tot war, ging sie daran, die ganze Nachkommenschaft der königlichen Familie auszurotten.	1 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family.
2 Doch Joscheba, die Tochter des Königs Joram und Schwester Ahasjas, nahm Joasch, den Sohn Ahasjas, aus dem Kreis der Königssöhne, die ermordet werden sollten, weg und brachte ihn heimlich mit seiner Amme in die Bettenkammer. Dort versteckte sie ihn vor Atalja, sodass er nicht getötet wurde.	2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. Thus she hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain;
3 Er blieb sechs Jahre bei ihr im Haus des Herrn verborgen, während Atalja das Land regierte.	3 and he remained with her six years, hid in the house of the LORD, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
4 Im siebten Jahr bestellte der Priester Jojada die Hundertschaftsführer der Karer und Läufer zu sich. Er führte sie in das Haus des Herrn, schloss mit ihnen ein Abkommen, ließ sie im Haus des Herrn schwören und zeigte ihnen den Sohn des Königs.	4 But in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and brought the captains of the Carites and of the guards, and had them come to him in the house of the LORD; and he made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the LORD, and he showed them the king's son.
5 Dann ordnete er an: Das ist es, was ihr tun sollt: Ein Drittel von der Wache, die am Sabbat aufzieht, soll den Königspalast bewachen,	5 And he commanded them, "This is the thing that you shall do: one third of you, those who come off duty on the sabbath and guard the king's house
6 ein Drittel soll am Tor Sur und ein Drittel am Tor hinter den Läufern stehen. Auf diese Weise sollt ihr abwechselnd die Bewachung des Tempels übernehmen.	6 (another third being at the gate Sur and a third at the gate behind the guards), shall guard the palace;
7 Die zwei Abteilungen aber, die am Sabbat abziehen, sollen im Haus des Herrn beim König als Wache stehen.	7 and the two divisions of you, which come on duty in force on the sabbath and guard the house of the LORD,
8 Schart euch mit der Waffe in der Hand um den König! Wer in die Reihen einzudringen versucht, soll getötet werden. Seid beim König, wenn er auszieht und wenn er einzieht.	8 shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand; and whoever approaches the ranks is to be slain. Be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in."
9 Die Führer der Hundertschaften befolgten alle Weisungen des Priesters Jojada. Jeder holte seine Leute, sowohl jene, die am Sabbat aufzogen, als auch jene, die am Sabbat abzogen. Sie kamen zum Priester Jojada	9 The captains did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and each brought his men who were to go off duty on the sabbath, with those who were to come on duty on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10 und dieser gab den Anführern der Hundertschaften die Lanzen und Schilde, die dem König David gehört hatten und sich jetzt im Haus des Herrn befanden.	10 And the priest delivered to the captains the spears and shields that had been King Davids, which were in the house of the LORD;
11 Die Läufer stellten sich mit der Waffe in der Hand von der Südseite des Tempels bis zur Nordseite vor dem Altar und dem Tempel rings um den König auf.	11 and the guards stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house.
12 Dann führte Jojada den Königssohn heraus und überreichte ihm den Stirnreif und das Königsgesetz. So machten sie ihn zum König, salbten ihn, klatschten in die Hände und riefen: Es lebe der König!	12 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they proclaimed him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, "Long live the king!"
13 Als Atalja das Geschrei des Volkes hörte, kam sie zu den Leuten in das Haus des Herrn.	13 When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she went into the house of the LORD to the people;
14 Da sah sie den König am gewohnten Platz bei der Säule stehen; die Obersten und die Trompeter waren bei ihm und alle Bürger des Landes waren voller Freude und bliesen die Trompeten. Atalja zerriss ihre Kleider und schrie: Verrat, Verrat!	14 and when she looked, there was the king standing by the pillar, according to the custom, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets. And Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, "Treason! Treason!"
15 Doch der Priester Jojada befahl den Hundertschaftsführern, die das Kommando über die Truppen hatten: Führt sie durch die Reihen hinaus und schlagt jeden mit dem Schwert nieder, der ihr folgen will; denn - so sagte der Priester - sie soll nicht im Haus des Herrn getötet werden.	15 Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains who were set over the army, "Bring her out between the ranks; and slay with the sword any one who follows her." For the priest said, "Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD."
16 Da legte man Hand an sie, und als sie an den Weg kam, auf dem man die Pferde zum Palast des Königs führt, wurde sie dort getötet.	16 So they laid hands on her; and she went through the horses' entrance to the king's house, and there she was slain.
17 Jojada schloss nun den Bund des Herrn mit König und Volk. Sie versprachen, dass sie das Volk des Herrn sein wollten. Auch König und Volk ließ er einen Bund schließen.	17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and people, that they should be the LORD's people; and also between the king and the people.
18 Darauf zogen alle Bürger des Landes zum Baalstempel und rissen ihn nieder. Sie zertrümmerten seine Altäre und Bilder vollständig und erschlugen den Baalspriester Mattan vor den Altären. Auch stellte Jojada Posten vor das Haus des Herrn	18 Then all the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest posted watchmen over the house of the LORD.
19 und rief die Hundertschaftsführer, die Karer und Läufer sowie alle Bürger des Landes herbei. Sie führten den König aus dem Haus des Herrn durch das Tor der Läufer hinab in den königlichen Palast. Dort setzte er sich auf den Thron der Könige.	19 And he took the captains, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD, marching through the gate of the guards to the king's house. And he took his seat on the throne of the kings.
20 Alle Bürger des Landes waren voll Freude und die Stadt blieb ruhig. Atalja aber hatte man vor dem Palast des Königs mit dem Schwert umgebracht.	20 So all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been slain with the sword at the king's house.
	21 Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.
