1 Als Atalja, die Mutter Ahasjas, sah, dass ihr Sohn tot war, ging sie daran, die ganze Nachkommenschaft der königlichen Familie auszurotten.	1 And Athalia the mother of Ochozias seeing that her son was dead, arose, and slew all the royal seed.
2 Doch Joscheba, die Tochter des Königs Joram und Schwester Ahasjas, nahm Joasch, den Sohn Ahasjas, aus dem Kreis der Königssöhne, die ermordet werden sollten, weg und brachte ihn heimlich mit seiner Amme in die Bettenkammer. Dort versteckte sie ihn vor Atalja, sodass er nicht getötet wurde.	2 But Josaba the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ochozias, took Joas the son of Ochozias, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, out of the bedchamber with his nurse: and hid him from the face of Athalia, so that he was not slain.
3 Er blieb sechs Jahre bei ihr im Haus des Herrn verborgen, während Atalja das Land regierte.	3 And he was with her six years hid in the house of the Lord. And Athalia reigned over the land.
4 Im siebten Jahr bestellte der Priester Jojada die Hundertschaftsführer der Karer und Läufer zu sich. Er führte sie in das Haus des Herrn, schloss mit ihnen ein Abkommen, ließ sie im Haus des Herrn schwören und zeigte ihnen den Sohn des Königs.	4 And in the seventh year Joiada seat, and taking the centurions and the soldiers, brought them in to him into the temple of the Lord, and made a covenant with them: and taking an oath of them in the house of the Lord, shewed them the king's son:
5 Dann ordnete er an: Das ist es, was ihr tun sollt: Ein Drittel von der Wache, die am Sabbat aufzieht, soll den Königspalast bewachen,	5 And he commanded them, saying: This is the thing that you must do:
6 ein Drittel soll am Tor Sur und ein Drittel am Tor hinter den Läufern stehen. Auf diese Weise sollt ihr abwechselnd die Bewachung des Tempels übernehmen.	6 Let a third part of you go in on the sabbath, and keep the watch of the king's house. And let a third part be at the gate of Sur: and let a third part be at the gate behind the dwelling of the shieldbearers: and you shall keep the watch of the house of Messa.
7 Die zwei Abteilungen aber, die am Sabbat abziehen, sollen im Haus des Herrn beim König als Wache stehen.	7 But let two parts of you, all that go forth on the sabbath, keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8 Schart euch mit der Waffe in der Hand um den König! Wer in die Reihen einzudringen versucht, soll getötet werden. Seid beim König, wenn er auszieht und wenn er einzieht.	8 And you shall compass him round about, having weapons in your hands: and if any man shall enter the precinct of the temple, let him be slain: and you shall be with the king coming in and going out.
9 Die Führer der Hundertschaften befolgten alle Weisungen des Priesters Jojada. Jeder holte seine Leute, sowohl jene, die am Sabbat aufzogen, als auch jene, die am Sabbat abzogen. Sie kamen zum Priester Jojada	9 And the centurions did according to all things that Joiada the priest had commanded them: and taking every one their men, that went in on the sabbath, with them that went out on the sabbath, came to Joiada the priest.
10 und dieser gab den Anführern der Hundertschaften die Lanzen und Schilde, die dem König David gehört hatten und sich jetzt im Haus des Herrn befanden.	10 And he gave them the spears, and the arms of king David, which were in the house of the Lord.
11 Die Läufer stellten sich mit der Waffe in der Hand von der Südseite des Tempels bis zur Nordseite vor dem Altar und dem Tempel rings um den König auf.	11 And they stood having every one their weapons in their hands, from the right side of the temple, unto the left side of the altar, and of the temple, about the king.
12 Dann führte Jojada den Königssohn heraus und überreichte ihm den Stirnreif und das Königsgesetz. So machten sie ihn zum König, salbten ihn, klatschten in die Hände und riefen: Es lebe der König!	12 And he brought forth the king's son, and put the diadem upon him, and the testimony: and they made him king, and anointed him: and clapping their hands. they said, God save the king.
13 Als Atalja das Geschrei des Volkes hörte, kam sie zu den Leuten in das Haus des Herrn.	13 And Athalia heard the noise of the people running: and going in to the people into the temple of the Lord,
14 Da sah sie den König am gewohnten Platz bei der Säule stehen; die Obersten und die Trompeter waren bei ihm und alle Bürger des Landes waren voller Freude und bliesen die Trompeten. Atalja zerriss ihre Kleider und schrie: Verrat, Verrat!	14 She saw the king standing upon a tribunal, as the manner was, and the singers, and the trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets: and she rent her garments, and cried: A conspiracy, a conspiracy.
15 Doch der Priester Jojada befahl den Hundertschaftsführern, die das Kommando über die Truppen hatten: Führt sie durch die Reihen hinaus und schlagt jeden mit dem Schwert nieder, der ihr folgen will; denn - so sagte der Priester - sie soll nicht im Haus des Herrn getötet werden.	15 But Joiada commended the centurions that were over the army, and said to them: Have her forth without the precinct of the temple, and whosoever shall follow her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest had said: Let her not be slain in the temple of the Lord.
16 Da legte man Hand an sie, und als sie an den Weg kam, auf dem man die Pferde zum Palast des Königs führt, wurde sie dort getötet.	16 And they laid hands on her: and thrust her out by the way by which the horses go in, by the palace, and she was slain there.
17 Jojada schloss nun den Bund des Herrn mit König und Volk. Sie versprachen, dass sie das Volk des Herrn sein wollten. Auch König und Volk ließ er einen Bund schließen.	17 And Joiada made a covenant between the Lord, and the king, and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.
18 Darauf zogen alle Bürger des Landes zum Baalstempel und rissen ihn nieder. Sie zertrümmerten seine Altäre und Bilder vollständig und erschlugen den Baalspriester Mattan vor den Altären. Auch stellte Jojada Posten vor das Haus des Herrn	18 And all the people of the land went into the temple of Baal, and broke down his altars, and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly: they slew also Mathan the priest of Baal before the altar. And the priest set guards in the house of the Lord.
19 und rief die Hundertschaftsführer, die Karer und Läufer sowie alle Bürger des Landes herbei. Sie führten den König aus dem Haus des Herrn durch das Tor der Läufer hinab in den königlichen Palast. Dort setzte er sich auf den Thron der Könige.	19 And he took the centurions, and the bands of the Cerethi and the Phelethi, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king from the house of the Lord: and they came by the way of the gate of the shieldbearers into the palace. and he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 Alle Bürger des Landes waren voll Freude und die Stadt blieb ruhig. Atalja aber hatte man vor dem Palast des Königs mit dem Schwert umgebracht.	20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet: but Athalia was slain with the sword in the king's house.
	21 Now Joas was seven years old, when he began to reign.
