BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Non raddoppiare le parole, che tu averai udite, della cosa occulta; sarai veracemente sanza confusione, e troverai grazia nel cospetto di tutti li uomini, e per tutte queste cose non sarai vituperato; e non adiutoriare la persona, sì che per lei pecchi.	1 Repeat not the word which thou hast heard, and disclose not the thing that is secret; so shalt thou be truly without confusion, and shah find favour before all men: be not ashamed of any of these things, and accept no person to sin thereby:
2 Della [legge dello] Altissimo e del testamento e del giudicio e di giustificare il malvagio;	2 Of the law of the most High, and of his covenant, and of judgment to justify the ungodly:
3 (e guàrdati che tu non sii confuso) della parola de' compagni e de' viandanti, e del dare la ereditade delli amici;	3 Of the affair of companions and travellers, and of the gift of the inheritance of friends:
4 e dell' agguaglianza della stadera e de' pesi, e dello acquistamento del molto e del poco;	4 Of exactness of balance and weights, of getting much or little:
5 e della corruzione (e dello arigogliamento) della compera e de' danari; della molta disciplina de' figliuoli; del servo pessimo, il cui lato fae insanguinare.	5 Of the corruption of buying, and of merchants, and of much correction of children, and to make the side of a wicked slave to bleed.
6 Sopra malvagia femina buono è lo segno.	6 Sure keeping is good over a wicked wife.
7 E dove [son] molte mani, chiudi; e qualunque cosa tu dài, annùmerale e pesale e tolli per conto; e serva ciò che ti sia dato e hai ricevuto.	7 Where there are many hands, shut up, and deliver all things in number, and weight: and put all in writing that thou givest out or receivest in.
8 Guàrdati dalla disciplina del disensato e del pazzo, e delli vecchi che sono sotto il giudicio dei giovani; e sarai (savio e) ammaestrato in tutte le cose, e laudabile nel conspetto di tutti gli uomini.	8 Be not ashamed to inform the unwise and foolish, and the aged, that are judged I by young men: and thou shalt be well instructed in all things, and well approved in the sight of all men living.
9 La figliuola del padre è nascosa; la vigilia e la sollecitudine li toglierà il sonno, acciò ch' ella non diventi adulta nella giovinezza sua, e poi diventi odiosa, quando sarà dimorata con l'uomo;	9 The father waketh for the daughter when no man knoweth, and the care for her taketh away his sleep, when she is young, lest she pass away the flower of her age, and when she is married, lest she should be hateful:
10 acciò che nullo tempo sia contaminata nella virginitade sua, e non si trovi gravida in casa del padre; acciò che, usata con l'uomo, non travalichi la legge, o divegna sterile.	10 In her virginity, lest she should be corrupted, and be found with child in her father's house: and having a husband, lest she should misbehave herself, or at the least become barren.
11 Conferma la guardia tua sopra la figliuola lussuriosa, acciò ch' ella mai venire non ti faccia in vituperio appo li nimici tuoi, e a dispregio nella cittade, e a viltà del popolo, e ch' ella [non] confonda te nella moltitudine delle genti.	11 Keep a sure watch over a shameless daughter: lest at any time she make thee become a laughingstock to thy enemies, and a byword in the city, and a reproach among the people, and she make thee ashamed before all the multitude.
12 Non attendere a ogni uomo nella bellezza, e non dimorare tra le femine.	12 Behold not everybody's beauty: and tarry not among women.
13 Però che la tignuola esce de' vestimenti, e dalla femina esce la iniquitade del marito (cioè la femina fa malo uomo).	13 For from garments cometh a moth, end from a woman the iniquity of a man.
14 Meglio è la iniquità dell' uomo, che la femina bene facente, e che la femina confondente in vituperio.	14 For better is the iniquity of a man, than a woman doing a good turn, and a woman bringing shame and reproach.
15 Io mi ricorderò delle opere di Dio; e di quelle cose ch' io vidi annunzierò nelli sermoni del Signore le opere sue.	15 I will now remember the works of the Lord, and I will declare the things I have seen. By the words of the Lord are his works.
16 Il sole alluminando per tutte le cose guardoe, e della gloria del Signore è piena l'opera sua.	16 The sun giving light hath looked upon all things, and full of the glory of the Lord is his work.
17 Or non fece Iddio li santi parlare tutte le sue maraviglie (da non potere contare), le quali Iddio onnipotente confermoe che sieno stabilite nella gloria sua?	17 Hath not the Lord made the saints to declare all his wonderful works, which the Lord Almighty hath firmly settled to be established for his glory?
18 (Iddio onnipotente) esaminerà l'abisso e il cuore dell' uomo e la sottilidate sua.	18 He hath searched out the deep, and the heart of men: and considered their crafty devices.
19 Iddio pensoe ogni scienza, e guardoe nel segno del secolo, annunziando quelle cose che sono passate, e quelle che sono a venire, rivelando le vestigie delli occulti.	19 For the Lord knoweth all knowledge, and hath beheld the signs of the world, he declareth the things that are past, and the things that are to come, and revealeth the traces of hidden things.
20 E nullo pensiero preterisce lui, e nullo sermone si nasconde da lui.	20 No thought escapeth him, and no word can hide itself from him.
21 Colui ch' è inanzi del secolo e in fino nel secolo, adornoe le grandissime cose della sua sapienza; e non è cresciuto,	21 He hath beautified the glorious works of his wisdom: and he Is from eternity to eternity, and to him nothing may be added,
22 e non iscemerae, e non ha bisogno di consiglio d'alcuno.	22 Nor can he be diminished, and he hath no need of any counsellor.
23 Come sono desiderabili tutte le opere sue! sì come una favilla le possiamo considerare.	23 O how desirable are all his works, and what we can know is but as a spark!
24 Tutte queste vivono, e permangono nel secolo; e tutte le cose ubbidiscono lui in ogni necessitade.	24 All these things live, and remain for ever, and for every use all things obey him.
25 Tutte le cose doppie; uno è contra uno; e nulla cosa fece (Iddio) mancare.	25 All things are double, one against another, and he hath made nothing defective.
26 Elli confermoe li beni di ciascuno. E chi si sazierae vedendo la gloria sua?	26 He hath established the good things of every one. And who shall be filled with beholding his glory?
