| 16 I inclined my ear a little and received her, and I found for myself much instruction. |
| 17 Eis por que eu vos glorificarei e cantarei vossos louvores e bendirei o nome do Senhor. | 17 I made progress therein; to him who gives wisdom I will give glory. |
| 18 Quando eu era ainda jovem, antes de ter viajado, busquei abertamente a sabedoria na oração: | 18 For I resolved to live according to wisdom, and I was zealous for the good; and I shall never be put to shame. |
| 19 pedi-a a Deus no templo, e buscá-la-ei até o fim de minha vida. Ela floresceu como uma videira precoce 20. e meu coração alegrou-se nela. Meus pés andaram por caminho reto: desde a minha juventude tenho procurado encontrá-la. | 19 My soul grappled with wisdom, and in my conduct I was strict; I spread out my hands to the heavens, and lamented my ignorance of her. |
| 20 I directed my soul to her, and through purification I found her. I gained understanding with her from the first, therefore I will not be forsaken. |
| 21 Apliquei um pouco o meu ouvido e logo a recolhi. | 21 My heart was stirred to seek her, therefore I have gained a good possession. |
| 22 Encontrei em mim mesmo muita sabedoria, e nela fiz grande progresso. | 22 The Lord gave me a tongue as my reward, and I will praise him with it. |
| 23 Tributarei glória àquele que ma deu, | 23 Draw near to me, you who are untaught, and lodge in my school. |
| 24 pois resolvi pô-la em prática; fui zeloso no bem e não serei confundido. | 24 Why do you say you are lacking in these things, and why are your souls very thirsty? |
| 25 Lutou minha alma para atingi-la, robusteci-me, pondo-a em prática. | 25 I opened my mouth and said, Get these things for yourselves without money. |
| 26 Levantei minhas mãos para o alto, e deplorei o erro do meu espírito. | 26 Put your neck under the yoke, and let your souls receive instruction; it is to be found close by. |
| 27 Conduzi minha alma para ela, e encontrei-a, ao procurar conhecê-la. | 27 See with your eyes that I have labored little and found myself much rest. |
| 28 Desde o início, graças a ela, possuí o meu coração; eis por que não serei abandonado. | 28 Get instruction with a large sum of silver, and you will gain by it much gold. |
| 29 Minhas entranhas comoveram-se em procurá-la, e assim adquiri um bem precioso. | 29 May your soul rejoice in his mercy, and may you not be put to shame when you praise him. |
| 30 O Senhor deu-me como recompensa uma língua, e dela me servirei para louvá-lo. | 30 Do your work before the appointed time, and in God's time he will give you your reward. |
| 31 Aproximai-vos de mim, ignorantes, reuni-vos na casa do ensino. | |
| 32 Por que tardais? Que direis a isto? Vossas almas estão violentamente perturbadas pela sede. | |
| 33 Abri a boca e falei: Buscai a sabedoria sem dinheiro! | |
| 34 Dobrai a cabeça sob o jugo, receba vossa alma a instrução, porque perto se pode encontrá-la. | |
| 35 Vede com os vossos olhos o pouco que trabalhei, e como adquiri grande paz. | |
| 36 Recebei a instrução como uma grande soma de prata, e possuireis nela grande quantidade de ouro. | |
