Unto the end. A Psalm of David. | 1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; |
Hear, O God, my prayer of supplication. Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy. | 2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. |
You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant, from a multitude of workers of iniquity. | 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. |
For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword; they have formed their bow into a bitter thing, | 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. |
so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate. | 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: |
They will suddenly shoot arrows at him, and they will not be afraid. They are resolute in their wicked talk. They have discussed hidden snares. They have said, “Who will see them?” | 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. |
They have been searching carefully for iniquities. Their exhaustive search has failed. Man will approach with a deep heart, | 7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. |
and God will be exalted. The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds, | 8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. |
and their tongues have been weakened against them. All those who saw them have been troubled; | 9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. |
and every man was afraid. And they announced the works of God, and they understood his acts. | 10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. |
The just will rejoice in the Lord, and they will hope in him. And all the upright of heart will be praised. | 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. |
