Jeremiæ 22

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hæc dicit Dominus : Descende in domum regis Juda, et loqueris ibi verbum hoc,	1 Yahweh said this, 'Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and there say this word,
2 et dices : Audi verbum Domini, rex Juda, qui sedes super solium David : tu et servi tui, et populus tuus, qui ingredimini per portas istas.	2 "Listen to the word of Yahweh, king of Judah now occupying the throne of David, you, your officials andyour people who go through these gates.
3 Hæc dicit Dominus : Facite judicium et justitiam, et liberate vi oppressum de manu calumniatoris : et advenam, et pupillum, et viduam nolite contristare, neque opprimatis inique, et sanguinem innocentem ne effundatis in loco isto.	3 Yahweh says this: Act uprightly and justly; rescue from the hands of the oppressor anyone who hasbeen wronged, do not exploit or il -treat the stranger, the orphan, the widow; shed no innocent blood in thisplace.
4 Si enim facientes feceritis verbum istud, ingredientur per portas domus hujus reges sedentes de genere David super thronum ejus, et ascendentes currus et equos, ipsi, et servi, et populus eorum.	4 For if you are scrupulous in obeying this command, then kings occupying the throne of David willcontinue to make their entry through the gates of this palace riding in chariots or on horseback, they, theirofficials and their people.
5 Quod si non audieritis verba hæc : in memetipso juravi, dicit Dominus, quia in solitudinem erit domus hæc.	5 But if you do not listen to these words, then I swear by myself, Yahweh declares, this palace shalbecome a ruin!
6 Quia hæc dicit Dominus super domum regis Juda : Galaad, tu mihi caput Libani, si non posuero te solitudinem, urbes inhabitabiles !	6 "Yes, this is what Yahweh says about the palace of the king of Judah: You are like Gilead to me, like apeak of Lebanon. Al the same, I wil reduce you to a desert, to uninhabited towns.
7 Et sanctificabo super te, interficientem virum et arma ejus : et succident electas cedros tuas, et præcipitabunt in ignem.	7 I dedicate men to destroy you, each man with his weapons; they will cut down your finest cedars andthrow them on the fire.
8 Et pertransibunt gentes multæ per civitatem hanc, et dicet unusquisque proximo suo : Quare fecit Dominus sic civitati huic grandi ?	8 "And when many nations pass this city, they wil say to one another: Why has Yahweh treated thisgreat city like this?
9 Et respondebunt : Eo quod dereliquerint pactum Domini Dei sui, et adoraverint deos alienos, et servierint eis.	9 And the answer wil be: Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh their God to worship othergods and serve them." '
10 Nolite flere mortuum, neque lugeatis super eum fletu : plangite eum qui egreditur, quia non revertetur ultra, nec videbit terram nativitatis suæ.	10 Do not weep for the man who is dead, do not raise the dirge for him. Weep rather for the one who hasgone away, since he wil never come back, never see his native land again.
11 Quia hæc dicit Dominus ad Sellum, filium Josiæ, regem Juda, qui regnavit pro Josia patre suo, qui egressus est de loco isto : Non revertetur huc amplius,	11 For this is what Yahweh has said about Shallum son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded Josiahhis father and was forced to leave this place, 'He wil never come back to it
12 sed in loco ad quem transtuli eum, ibi morietur, et terram istam non videbit amplius.	12 but wil die in the place to which he has been taken captive; and he wil never see this country again.
13 Væ qui ædificat domum suam in injustitia, et cœnacula sua non in judicio : amicum suum opprimet frustra, et mercedem ejus non reddet ei :	13 'Disaster for the man who builds his house without uprightness, his upstairs rooms without fairjudgement, who makes his fel ow-man work for nothing, without paying him his wages,
14 qui dicit : Ædificabo mihi domum latam, et cœnacula spatiosa : qui aperit sibi fenestras et facit laquearia cedrina, pingitque sinopide.	14 who says, "I shal build myself a spacious palace with airy upstairs rooms," who makes windows in it,panels it with cedar, and paints it vermilion.
15 Numquid regnabis quoniam confers te cedro ? pater tuus numquid non comedit et bibit, et fecit judicium et justitiam tunc cum bene erat ei ?	15 Are you more of a king because of your passion for cedar? Did your father go hungry or thirsty? Buthe did what is just and upright, so al went wel for him.
16 Judicavit causam pauperis et egeni in bonum suum : numquid non ideo quia cognovit me ? dicit Dominus.	16 He used to examine the cases of poor and needy, then al went wel . Is not that what it means to knowme? Yahweh demands.
17 Tui vero oculi et cor ad avaritiam, et ad sanguinem innocentem fundendum, et ad calumniam, et ad cursum mali operis.	17 You on the other hand have eyes and heart for nothing but your own interests, for shedding innocentblood and perpetrating violence and oppression.'
18 Propterea hæc dicit Dominus ad Joakim, filium Josiæ, regem Juda : Non plangent eum : Væ frater ! et væ soror ! non concrepabunt ei : Væ domine ! et væ inclyte !	18 That is why Yahweh says this about Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: 'No lamenting for him,"My poor brother! My poor sister!" No lamenting for him, "His poor lordship! His poor majesty!"
19 Sepultura asini sepelietur, putrefactus et projectus extra portas Jerusalem.	19 He wil have a donkey's funeral -- dragged away and thrown out of the gates of Jerusalem.'
20 Ascende Libanum, et clama, et in Basan da vocem tuam : et clama ad transeuntes, quia contriti sunt omnes amatores tui.	20 'Climb the Lebanon range and shriek, raise your voice in Bashan, shriek from the Abarim, for al yourlovers have been ruined!
21 Locutus sum ad te in abundantia tua, et dixisti : Non audiam : hæc est via tua ab adolescentia tua, quia non audisti vocem meam.	21 I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, "I wil not listen!" From your youth this has been howyou behaved, refusing to listen to my voice.
22 Omnes pastores tuos pascet ventus, et amatores tui in captivitatem ibunt : et tunc confunderis, et erubesces ab omni malitia tua.	22 The wind will shepherd al your shepherds away and your lovers wil go into captivity. Then you wilblush deep with shame at the thought of al your wickedness.
23 Quæ sedes in Libano, et nidificas in cedris, quomodo congemuisti cum venissent tibi dolores, quasi dolores parturientis ?	23 You who have made the Lebanon your home and made your nest among the cedars, how you wilgroan when anguish overtakes you, pangs like those of a woman in labour!
24 Vivo ego, dicit Dominus, quia si fuerit Jechonias filius Joakim regis Juda annulus in manu dextera mea, inde evellam eum,	24 'As I live, Yahweh declares, even if Coniah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet ring onmy right hand, I would stil wrench you off!
25 et dabo te in manu quærentium animam tuam, et in manu quorum tu formidas faciem, et in manu Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis, et in manu Chaldæorum :	25 I shal hand you over to those determined to kill you, to those you dread, to Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, to the Chaldaeans.
26 et mittam te, et matrem tuam quæ genuit te, in terram alienam, in qua nati non estis, ibique moriemini.	26 I shal hurl you and the mother who bore you into another country; you were not born there but youwil both die there.
27 Et in terram ad quam ipsi levant animam suam ut revertantur illuc, non revertentur.	27 They wil not return to the country to which they desperately long to return.'
28 Numquid vas fictile atque contritum vir iste Jechonias ? numquid vas absque omni voluptate ? quare abjecti sunt ipse et semen ejus, et projecti in terram quam ignoraverunt ?	28 Is he a shoddy broken pot, this man Coniah, a crock that no one wants? Why are he and his offspringejected, hurled into a country they know nothing of?
29 Terra, terra, terra, audi sermonem Domini.	29 O land, land, land, listen to the word of Yahweh!
30 Hæc dicit Dominus : Scribe virum istum sterilem, virum qui in diebus suis non prosperabitur : nec enim erit de semine ejus vir qui sedeat super solium David, et potestatem habeat ultra in Juda.	30 Yahweh says this, 'List this man as: Childless; a man who made a failure of his life, since none of hisoffspring wil succeed in occupying the throne of David, or ruling in Judah again.'
