VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
De hyacintho vero et purpura, vermiculo ac bysso, fecit vestes, quibus indueretur Aaron quando ministrabat in sanctis, sicut præcepit Dominus Moysi.1 From the violet-purple, red-purple and crimson materials, they made the liturgical vestments forservice in the sanctuary. They made the sacred vestments for Aaron, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
Fecit igitur superhumerale de auro, hyacintho, et purpura, coccoque bis tincto, et bysso retorta,2 They made the ephod of gold, of violet-purple, red-purple and crimson materials and finely wovenlinen.
opere polymitario : inciditque bracteas aureas, et extenuavit in fila, ut possent torqueri cum priorum colorum subtegmine,3 They beat gold into thin plates and cut these into threads to work into the violet-purple, red-purple andcrimson materials and the fine linen by needlework.
duasque oras sibi invicem copulatas in utroque latere summitatum,4 For the ephod they made shoulder-straps which were joined to it at its two edges.
et balteum ex eisdem coloribus, sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.5 The waistband on the ephod to hold it in position, was of a piece with it and of the same workmanship:of gold, violet-purple, red-purple and finely woven linen, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
Paravit et duos lapides onychinos, astrictos et inclusos auro, et sculptos arte gemmaria nominibus filiorum Israël :6 They worked the cornelians, mounted in gold setting, and engraved, like an engraved seal, with thenames of the sons of Israel,
posuitque eos in lateribus superhumeralis in monimentum filiorum Israël, sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.7 and put the stones on the shoulder-straps of the ephod, to commemorate the sons of Israel, asYahweh had ordered Moses.
Fecit et rationale opere polymito juxta opus superhumeralis, ex auro, hyacintho, purpura, coccoque bis tincto, et bysso retorta :8 They made the breastplate of the same embroidered work as the ephod: of gold, violet-purple, red-purple and crimson materials and finely woven linen.
quadrangulum, duplex, mensuræ palmi.9 It was square and doubled over, a span in length and a span in width.
Et posuit in eo gemmarum ordines quatuor. In primo versu erat sardius, topazius, smaragdus.10 In it they set four rows of stones: a sard, a topaz and an emerald, for the first row;
In secundo, carbunculus, sapphirus, et jaspis.11 for the second row, a garnet, a sapphire and a diamond;
In tertio, ligurius, achates, et amethystus.12 for the third row, a hyacinth, a ruby and an amethyst;
In quarto, chrysolithus, onychinus, et beryllus, circumdati et inclusi auro per ordines suos.13 and for the fourth row, a beryl, a cornelian and a jasper: mounted in gold settings,
Ipsique lapides duodecim sculpti erant nominibus duodecim tribuum Israël, singuli per nomina singulorum.14 the stones corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve like their names, engraved likeseals, each with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
Fecerunt in rationali et catenulas sibi invicem cohærentes, de auro purissimo :15 For the breastplate they made chains of pure gold twisted like cords,
et duos uncinos, totidemque annulos aureos. Porro annulos posuerunt in utroque latere rationalis,16 and they made two gold rosettes and two gold rings, putting the two rings on the two outside edgesof the breastplate
e quibus penderent duæ catenæ aureæ, quas inseruerunt uncinis, qui in superhumeralis angulis eminebant.17 and fastening the two gold cords to the two rings on the outside edges of the breastplate.
Hæc et ante et retro ita conveniebant sibi, ut superhumerale et rationale mutuo necterentur,18 The other two ends of the cords they fastened to the two rosettes, putting these on the shoulder-straps of the ephod, on the front.
stricta ad balteum et annulis fortius copulata, quos jungebat vitta hyacinthina, ne laxa fluerent, et a se invicem moverentur, sicut præcepit Dominus Moysi.19 They also made two gold rings and put them on the two outside edges of the breastplate, on theinner side, against the ephod;
Feceruntque quoque tunicam superhumeralis totam hyacinthinam,20 and they made two more gold rings and put them low down on the front of the two shoulder-straps ofthe ephod, close to the join, above the waistband of the ephod.
et capitium in superiori parte contra medium, oramque per gyrum capitii textilem :21 They secured the pectoral by a violet-purple cord passed through its rings and those of the ephod, sothat the pectoral would sit above the waistband and not come apart from the ephod, as Yahweh had orderedMoses.
deorsum autem ad pedes mala punica ex hyacintho, purpura, vermiculo, ac bysso retorta :22 They made the robe of the ephod woven entirely of violet-purple.
et tintinnabula de auro purissimo, quæ posuerunt inter malogranata, in extrema parte tunicæ per gyrum :23 The opening in the centre of the robe was like the neck of a coat of mail; round the opening was aborder, so that it would not get torn.
tintinnabulum autem aureum, et malum punicum, quibus ornatus incedebat pontifex quando ministerio fungebatur, sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.24 On the lower hem of the robe, they made pomegranates of violet-purple, red-purple and crimson andfinely woven linen,
Fecerunt et tunicas byssinas opere textili Aaron et filiis ejus :25 and made bells of pure gold, putting the bel s between the pomegranates al round the lower hem ofthe robe:
et mitras cum coronulis suis ex bysso :26 alternately, a bel and then a pomegranate, al round the lower hem of the robe of office, as Yahwehhad ordered Moses.
feminalia quoque linea, byssina :27 They made the tunics of finely woven linen for Aaron and his sons,
cingulum vero de bysso retorta, hyacintho, purpura, ac vermiculo bis tincto, arte plumaria, sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.28 the turban of fine linen, the head-dresses of fine linen, the breeches of finely woven linen,
Fecerunt et laminam sacræ venerationis de auro purissimo, scripseruntque in ea opere gemmario, Sanctum Domini :29 the waistbands of finely woven linen embroidered with violet-purple, red-purple and crimson, asYahweh had ordered Moses.
et strinxerunt eam cum mitra vitta hyacinthina, sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.
They also made the flower -- the symbol of holy consecration -- of pure gold and on it, like anengraved seal, they engraved, 'Consecrated to Yahweh'.
Perfectum est igitur omne opus tabernaculi et tecti testimonii : feceruntque filii Israël cuncta quæ præceperat Dominus Moysi.31 They put it on a violet-purple cord, to fasten it high up on the turban, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
Et obtulerunt tabernaculum et tectum et universam supellectilem, annulos, tabulas, vectes, columnas ac bases,32 So all the work for the Dwelling, for the Tent of Meeting, was completed. They had done everythingexactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
opertorium de pellibus arietum rubricatis, et aliud operimentum de janthinis pellibus,33 They then brought Moses the Dwel ing, the Tent and al its accessories: its clasps, frames, crossbars,poles and sockets;
velum ; arcam, vectes, propitiatorium,34 the cover of rams' skins dyed red, the cover of fine leather and the screening curtain;
mensam cum vasis suis et propositionis panibus ;35 the ark of the Testimony and its shafts, and the mercy-seat;
candelabrum, lucernas, et utensilia earum cum oleo ;36 the table, all its accessories and the loaves of permanent offering;
altare aureum, et unguentum, et thymiama ex aromatibus,37 the lamp-stand of pure gold, its lamps -- the array of lamps -- and all its accessories, and the oil forthe light;
et tentorium in introitu tabernaculi ;38 the golden altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense and the screen for the entrance to the tent;
altare æneum, retiaculum, vectes, et vasa ejus omnia ; labrum cum basi sua ; tentoria atrii, et columnas cum basibus suis ;39 the bronze altar and its bronze grating, its shafts and all its accessories; the basin and its stand;
tentorium in introitu atrii, funiculosque illius et paxillos. Nihil ex vasis defuit, quæ in ministerium tabernaculi, et in tectum f?deris jussa sunt fieri.40 the curtaining for the court, its poles, its sockets, and the screen for the gateway to the court, itscords, its pegs and al the accessories for the service of the Dwel ing, for the Tent of Meeting;
Vestes quoque, quibus sacerdotes utuntur in sanctuario, Aaron scilicet et filii ejus,41 the liturgical vestments for officiating in the sanctuary -- the sacred vestments for Aaron the priest,and the vestments for his sons -- for the priestly functions.
obtulerunt filii Israël, sicut præceperat Dominus.42 The Israelites had done al the work exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
Quæ postquam Moyses cuncta vidit completa, benedixit eis.43 Moses inspected all the work: they had indeed done it as Yahweh had ordered; and Moses blessedthem.
