VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Habitaverunt autem principes populi in Jerusalem : reliqua vero plebs misit sortem, ut tollerent unam partem de decem qui habitaturi essent in Jerusalem civitate sancta, novem vero partes in civitatibus.1 Now the leaders of the people took up residence in Jerusalem; so the rest of the people drew lots: oneman in ten was to come and live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the other nine were to stay in the townsoutside.
2 Benedixit autem populus omnibus viris qui se sponte obtulerant ut habitarent in Jerusalem.2 The people praised al those who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
3 Hi sunt itaque principes provinciæ qui habitaverunt in Jerusalem, et in civitatibus Juda. Habitavit autem unusquisque in possessione sua, in urbibus suis, Israël, sacerdotes, Levitæ, Nathinæi, et filii servorum Salomonis.3 In the towns of Judah each man lived on his own property, but these are the provincial leaders, theIsraelites, the priests, the Levites, the temple slaves and the descendants of Solomon's slaves, who made theirhomes in Jerusalem:
4 Et in Jerusalem habitaverunt de filiis Juda, et de filiis Benjamin : de filiis Juda, Athaias filius Aziam, filii Zachariæ, filii Amariæ, filii Saphatiæ, filii Melaleel : de filiis Phares,4 Of the sons of Judah and the sons of Benjamin who made their homes in Jerusalem there were: Ofthe sons of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son ofMehalalel, of the descendants of Perez;
5 Maasia filius Baruch, filius Cholhoza, filius Hazia, filius Adaia, filius Jojarib, filius Zachariæ, filius Silonitis :5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, son of Col-Hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, descendant of Shelah.
6 omnes hi filii Phares, qui habitaverunt in Jerusalem, quadringenti sexaginta octo viri fortes.6 The total number of the descendants of Perez living in Jerusalem was four hundred and sixty-eightoutstanding people.
7 Hi sunt autem filii Benjamin : Sellum filius Mosollam, filius Joëd, filius Phadaia, filius Colaia, filius Masia, filius Etheel, filius Isaia,7 These are the sons of Benjamin: Sal u son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah,son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,
8 et post eum Gebbai, Sellai, nongenti viginti octo,8 and his brothers Gabbai and Sal ai; nine hundred and twenty-eight.
9 et Joël filius Zechri præpositus eorum, et Judas filius Senua super civitatem secundus.9 Joel son of Zichri was their chief, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second in command of the city.

12 et fratres eorum facientes opera templi : octingenti viginti duo. Et Adaia filius Jeroham, filius Phelelia, filius Amsi, filius Zachariæ, filius Pheshur, filius Melchiæ,12 and their kinsmen who performed the Temple liturgy: eight hundred and twenty-two; Adaiah son ofJeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah,
13 et fratres ejus principes patrum : ducenti quadraginta duo. Et Amassai filius Azreel, filius Ahazi, filius Mosollamoth, filius Emmer,13 and his kinsfolk, heads of families: two hundred and forty-two; and Amashai son of Azarel, son ofAhzai, son of Meshil emoth, son of Immer,
14 et fratres eorum potentes nimis : centum viginti octo, et præpositus eorum Zabdiel filius potentium.14 and his kinsfolk, outstanding people: one hundred and twenty-eight. Their chief was Zabdiel son ofHaggadol.
15 Et de Levitis, Semeia filius Hasub, filius Azaricam, filius Hasabia, filius Boni,15 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son ofBunni;
16 et Sabathai et Jozabed, super omnia opera quæ erant forinsecus in domo Dei, a principibus Levitarum.16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, the levitical leaders responsible for work outside the Temple of God;
17 Et Mathania filius Micha, filius Zebedei, filius Asaph, princeps ad laudandum et ad confitendum in oratione, et Becbecia secundus de fratribus ejus, et Abda filius Samua, filius Galal, filius Idithun :17 Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, who led the praises and intoned the thanksgivingassociated with the prayer, Bakbukiah being his junior col eague; and Obadiah son of Shammua, son of Galal,son of Jeduthun.
18 omnes Levitæ in civitate sancta ducenti octoginta quatuor.18 The total number of Levites in the holy city was two hundred and eighty-four.
19 Et janitores, Accub, Telmon, et fratres eorum, qui custodiebant ostia : centum septuaginta duo.19 The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon and their kinsmen, who kept watch at the gates: one hundred andseventy-two.
20 Et reliqui ex Israël sacerdotes et Levitæ in universis civitatibus Juda, unusquisque in possessione sua.20 The rest of Israel, including the priests and Levites, made their homes throughout the towns ofJudah, each man on his own inheritance,
21 Et Nathinæi, qui habitabant in Ophel, et Siaha, et Gaspha de Nathinæis.21 The temple slaves lived on Ophel; Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple slaves.
22 Et episcopus Levitarum in Jerusalem, Azzi filius Bani, filius Hasabiæ, filius Mathaniæ, filius Michæ. De filiis Asaph, cantores in ministerio domus Dei.22 The official in charge of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son ofMattaniah, son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, who led the singing in the liturgy of the Temple of God;
23 Præceptum quippe regis super eos erat, et ordo in cantoribus per dies singulos,23 for the singers were under royal orders, with regulations laying down what was required of them dayby day.
24 et Phathahia filius Mesezebel, de filiis Zara filii Juda in manu regis, juxta omne verbum populi,24 Petahiah son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah son of Judah, was the king's minister for almatters connected with the people.
25 et in domibus per omnes regiones eorum. De filiis Juda habitaverunt in Cariatharbe et in filiabus ejus : et in Dibon, et in filiabus ejus : et in Cabseel, et in viculis ejus :25 and in the vil ages near their lands. Some of the sons of Judah made their homes in Kiriath-Arba andits dependencies, Dibon and its dependencies, Jekabzeel and its dependencies,
26 et in Jesue, et in Molada, et in Bethphaleth,26 Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-Pelet,
27 et in Hasersual, et in Bersabee, et in filiabus ejus,27 Hazar-Shual, Beersheba and its dependencies,
28 et in Siceleg, et in Mochona, et in filiabus ejus,28 Ziklag, Meconah and its dependencies,
29 et in Remmon, et in Saraa, et in Jerimuth,29 En-Rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,
30 Zanoa, Odollam, et in villis earum, Lachis et regionibus ejus, et Azeca, et filiabus ejus. Et manserunt in Bersabee usque ad vallem Ennom.30 Zanoah, Adullam and their vil ages, Lachish and its lands, and Azekah and its dependencies; thus,they settled from Beersheba as far as the Val ey of Hinnom.
31 Filii autem Benjamin, a Geba, Mechmas, et Hai, et Bethel, et filiabus ejus31 And some Benjaminites made their homes in Geba, Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its dependencies,
32 Anathoth, Nob, Anania,32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
33 Asor, Rama, Gethaim,33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
34 Hadid, Seboim, et Neballat, Lod,34 Hadid, Zeboim, Nebal at,
35 et Ono valle artificum.35 Lod, Ono and the Valley of Craftsmen.
36 Et de Levitis portiones Judæ et Benjamin.36 Some levitical groups lived in Judah, some in Benjamin.
