VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Fecit quoque altare æneum viginti cubitorum longitudinis, et viginti cubitorum latitudinis, et decem cubitorum altitudinis.1 He made a bronze altar, twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high.
Mare etiam fusile decem cubitis a labio usque ad labium, rotundum per circuitum : quinque cubitos habebat altitudinis, et funiculus triginta cubitorum ambiebat gyrum ejus.2 He made the Sea of cast metal, ten cubits from rim to rim, circular in shape and five cubits high; a cordthirty cubits long gave the measurement of its girth.
Similitudo quoque boum erat subter illud, et decem cubitis quædam extrinsecus cælaturæ, quasi duobus versibus alvum maris circuibant. Boves autem erant fusiles :3 Under it and completely encircling it were things like oxen, ten to the cubit round the entire Sea; theoxen were in two rows, of one and the same casting with the rest.
It rested on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, three facing east; onthese, their hindquarters al turned inwards, stood the Sea.
Porro vastitas ejus habebat mensuram palmi, et labium illius erat quasi labium calicis, vel repandi lilii : capiebatque tria millia metretas.5 It was a hand's breadth in thickness, and its rim was shaped like the rim of a cup-lily-shaped. It couldhold three thousand bat.
Fecit quoque conchas decem : et posuit quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris, ut lavarent in eis omnia quæ in holocaustum oblaturi erant : porro in mari sacerdotes lavabantur.6 He made ten basins, putting five on the right and five on the left, for washing in; the things to be offeredas burnt offerings were to be rinsed in these, but the Sea was for the priests to wash in.
Fecit autem et candelabra aurea decem secundum speciem qua jussa erant fieri : et posuit ea in templo, quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris.7 He made the ten golden lamp-stands according to the pattern and placed them in the Hekal, five on theright and five on the left.
Necnon et mensas decem : et posuit eas in templo, quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris : phialas quoque aureas centum.8 He made ten tables which he set up in the Hekal, five on the right and five on the left. He also made ahundred golden sprinkling bowls.
Fecit etiam atrium sacerdotum, et basilicam grandem : et ostia in basilica, quæ texit ære.9 He made the court of the priests and the great court with its gates and plated the gates with bronze.
Porro mare posuit in latere dextro contra orientem ad meridiem.10 The Sea he placed on the right-hand side of the Temple, to the south-east.
Fecit autem Hiram lebetes, et creagras, et phialas : et complevit omne opus regis in domo Dei :11 Huram made the ash containers, the scoops and the sprinkling bowls. Thus Huram completed al thework done for King Solomon for the Temple of God:
hoc est, columnas duas, et epistylia, et capita, et quasi quædam retiacula, quæ capita tegerent super epistylia.12 the two pillars; the mouldings of the capitals surmounting the two pil ars; the two sets of filigree tocover the two mouldings of the capitals surmounting the pil ars;
Malogranata quoque quadringenta, et retiacula duo ita ut bini ordines malogranatorum singulis retiaculis jungerentur, quæ protegerent epistylia, et capita columnarum.13 the four hundred pomegranates for the two sets of filigree -- two rows of pomegranates for each set offiligree;
Bases etiam fecit, et conchas, quas superposuit basibus :14 the ten stands and the ten basins on the stands;
mare unum, boves quoque duodecim sub mari,15 the one Sea and the twelve oxen beneath it;
et lebetes, et creagras, et phialas. Omnia vasa fecit Salomoni Hiram pater ejus in domo Domini ex ære mundissimo.16 the ash containers, scoops and forks. Al these utensils made by Huram-Abi for King Solomon for theTemple of Yahweh were of burnished bronze.
In regione Jordanis, fudit ea rex in argillosa terra inter Sochot et Saredatha.17 The King made them by the process of sand casting, in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth andZeredah.
Erat autem multitudo vasorum innumerabilis, ita ut ignoraretur pondus æris.18 There was such an enormous quantity of them that the weight of the bronze could not be calculated.
Fecitque Salomon omnia vasa domus Dei, et altare aureum, et mensas, et super eas panes propositionis :19 Solomon made al the objects designed for the Temple of God, as wel as the golden altar and thetables for the loaves of permanent offering;
candelabra quoque cum lucernis suis ut lucerent ante oraculum juxta ritum ex auro purissimo :20 the lamp-stands with their lamps to burn, as prescribed, in front of the Debir, of pure gold;
et florentia quædam, et lucernas, et forcipes aureos : omnia de auro mundissimo facta sunt.21 the floral work, the lamps, the tongs, of gold (and it was pure gold);
Thymiateria quoque, et thuribula, et phialas, et mortariola ex auro purissimo. Et ostia cælavit templi interioris, id est, in Sancta sanctorum : et ostia templi forinsecus aurea. Sicque completum est omne opus quod fecit Salomon in domo Domini.22 the snuffers, the sprinkling bowls, incense ladles and the pans, of real gold; and the entrance to theTemple, the inner doors (for the Holy of Holies) and the doors of the Temple itself, that is of the Hekal, were alsomade of gold.
