1 Filii quoque Ruben primogeniti Israël. (Ipse quippe fuit primogenitus ejus : sed cum violasset thorum patris sui, data sunt primogenita ejus filiis Joseph filii Israël, et non est ille reputatus in primogenitum.1 Sons of Reuben, first-born of Israel. He was indeed the first-born but, when he defiled his father's bed,his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, and he was no longer reckoned as the eldest son.
2 Porro Judas, qui erat fortissimus inter fratres suos, de stirpe ejus principes germinati sunt : primogenita autem reputata sunt Joseph.)2 Although Judah grew greater than his brothers and a leader came from him, the birthright wasJoseph's.

16 Et habitaverunt in Galaad, et in Basan, et in viculis ejus, et in cunctis suburbanis Saron, usque ad terminos.16 They inhabited Gilead, Bashan and its dependencies, as wel as al the pasture lands of Sharon ontheir extremities.
17 Omnes hi numerati sunt in diebus Joathan regis Juda, et in diebus Jeroboam regis Israël.17 In the time of Jotham king of Judah and in the time of Jeroboam king of Israel, al of them wereincluded in the official genealogy.
18 Filii Ruben, et Gad, et dimidiæ tribus Manasse, viri bellatores, scuta portantes et gladios, et tendentes arcum, eruditique ad prælia, quadraginta quatuor millia et septingenti sexaginta, procedentes ad pugnam.18 The sons of Reuben, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had warriors, men armed with shieldand sword who could handle the bow and were trained for war, to the number of forty-four thousand sevenhundred and sixty fit for service.

23 Filii quoque dimidiæ tribus Manasse possederunt terram a finibus Basan usque Baal, Hermon, et Sanir, et montem Hermon : ingens quippe numerus erat.23 The sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the territory between Bashan and Baal-Hermon, Senirand Mount Hermon. They were numerous.
24 Et hi fuerunt principes domus cognationis eorum : Epher, et Jesi, et Eliel, et Ezriel, et Jeremia, et Odoia, et Jediel, viri fortissimi et potentes, et nominati duces in familiis suis.24 These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, Jahdiel -- stoutfighting men, men of renown, heads of their families.
25 Reliquerunt autem Deum patrum suorum, et fornicati sunt post deos populorum terræ, quos abstulit Deus coram eis.25 But since they were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors and prostituted themselves to the gods ofthe peoples of the country whom God had destroyed before them,

37 Azariah fathered Amariah, Amariah fathered Ahitub,
38 Ahitub fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Shallum,
39 Shallum fathered Hilkiah, Hilkiah fathered Azariah,
40 Azariah fathered Seraiah, Seraiah fathered Jehozadak,
41 and Jehozadak went into exile when, at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, Yahweh exiled Judah andJerusalem.
