Lettera ai Romani 12

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vi esorto dunque, fratelli, per la misericordia di Dio, a offrire i vostri corpi come un sacrificio vivente, santo, gradito a Dio, come vostro culto spirituale.	1 I urge you, then, brothers, remembering the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, dedicated and acceptable to God; that is the kind of worship for you, as sensible people.
2 Non uniformatevi al mondo presente, ma trasformatevi continuamente nel rinnovamento della vostra coscienza, in modo che possiate discernere che cosa Dio vuole da voi, cos'è buono, a lui gradito e perfetto.	2 Do not model your behaviour on the contemporary world, but let the renewing of your mindstransform you, so that you may discern for yourselves what is the wil of God -- what is good and acceptable andmature.
3 Dico infatti, per la grazia a me concessa, a ciascuno che si trova tra voi, di non sovraestimarsi più del giusto, ma di nutrire una stima saggia di sé, secondo la misura di fede che Dio ha assegnato a ciascuno.	3 And through the grace that I have been given, I say this to every one of you: never pride yourself onbeing better than you real y are, but think of yourself dispassionately, recognising that God has given to eachone his measure of faith.
4 Come infatti in un solo corpo troviamo molte membra e le varie membra non hanno tutte le stesse funzioni,	4 Just as each of us has various parts in one body, and the parts do not al have the same function:
5 così noi, pur essendo molti, formiamo in Cristo un unico corpo, ciascuno membro degli altri.	5 in the same way, al of us, though there are so many of us, make up one body in Christ, and asdifferent parts we are al joined to one another.
6 Siamo in possesso di doni differenti secondo la benevolenza riversata su di noi, sia che si tratti di profezia, secondo la proporzione della fede;	6 Then since the gifts that we have differ according to the grace that was given to each of us: if it is agift of prophecy, we should prophesy as much as our faith tells us;
7 sia che si tratti del ministero, per servire; o di chi insegna, per l'insegnamento;	7 if it is a gift of practical service, let us devote ourselves to serving; if it is teaching, to teaching;
8 o di chi esorta, per l'esortazione. Chi distribuisce elargizioni, lo faccia con semplicità; chi dirige, lo faccia con sollecitudine; chi esercita la misericordia, lo faccia con gioia.	8 if it is encouraging, to encouraging. When you give, you should give generously from the heart; if youare put in charge, you must be conscientious; if you do works of mercy, let it be because you enjoy doing them.
9 L'amore è incompatibile con l'ipocrisia. Aborrite il male, aderite con tutte le forze al bene.	9 Let love be without any pretence. Avoid what is evil; stick to what is good.
10 Amatevi cordialmente con l'amore di fratelli, prevenitevi vicendevolmente nella stima;	10 In brotherly love let your feelings of deep affection for one another come to expression and regardothers as more important than yourself.
11 siate solleciti e non pigri, ferventi nello spirito, servite il Signore;	11 In the service of the Lord, work not halfheartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit.
12 abbiate gioia nella speranza, siate costanti nelle avversità, assidui nella preghiera;	12 Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship; keep praying regularly;
13 prendete parte alle necessità dei santi, praticate a gara l'ospitalità.	13 share with any of God's holy people who are in need; look for opportunities to be hospitable.
14 Invocate benedizioni su chi vi perseguita, benedizioni e non maledizioni;	14 Bless your persecutors; never curse them, bless them.
15 prendete parte alla gioia di chi gioisce, al pianto di chi piange;	15 Rejoice with others when they rejoice, and be sad with those in sorrow.
16 abbiate, gli uni per gli altri, gli stessi pensieri e sollecitudini; non aspirate a cose eccelse, ma lasciatevi attrarre dalle cose umili. Non siate saggi presso voi stessi,	16 Give the same consideration to al others alike. Pay no regard to social standing, but meet humblepeople on their own terms. Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom.
17 non restituite a nessuno male per male. Studiatevi di compiere il bene davanti a tutti gli uomini.	17 Never pay back evil with evil, but bear in mind the ideals that all regard with respect.
18 Se è possibile, per quanto dipende da voi, siate in pace con tutti gli uomini.	18 As much as possible, and to the utmost of your ability, be at peace with everyone.
19 Non vi vendicate, carissimi, ma cedete il posto all'ira divina; sta scritto infatti: A me la vendetta, io darò ciò che spetta, dice il Signore.	19 Never try to get revenge: leave that, my dear friends, to the Retribution. As scripture says:Vengeance is mine -- I wil pay them back, the Lord promises.
20 Se il tuo nemico ha fame, dàgli del cibo; se ha sete, dàgli da bere: facendo così, accumulerai carboni accesi sul suo capo.	20 And more: If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if thirsty, something to drink. By this,you wil be heaping red-hot coals on his head.
21 Non lasciarti vincere dal male, ma vinci il male col bene.	21 Do not be mastered by evil, but master evil with good.
