1 ¿Te toca presidir la mesa? No te envanezcas: compórtate con los demás como uno de ellos y atiéndelos bien antes de sentarte.	1 If you are chosen to preside at dinner, be not puffed up, but with the guests be as one of themselves; Take care of them first before you sit down;
2 Una vez cumplido todo tu oficio, ocupa tu puesto para alegrarte a causa de los comensales y verte coronado porque todo está en orden.	2 when you have fulfilled your duty, then take your place, To share in their joy and win praise for your hospitality.
3 Habla, anciano, porque te corresponde hacerlo, pero con discreción y sin interrumpir la música.	3 Being older, you may talk; that is only your right, but temper your wisdom, not to disturb the singing.
4 Mientras se escucha, no te pongas a charlar ni te hagas el sabio fuera de tiempo	4 When wine is present, do not pour out discourse, and flaunt not your wisdom at the wrong time.
5 Sello de rubí en una alhaja de oro es un concierto musical mientras se bebe vino;	5 Like a seal of carnelian in a setting of gold is a concert when wine is served.
6 sello de esmeralda en un engaste de oro es la música melodiosa sobre la dulzura del vino.	6 Like a gold mounting with an emerald seal is string music with delicious wine.
7 Habla, joven, cuando sea necesario, pero dos veces a lo más, y si te preguntan.	7 Young man, speak only when necessary, when they have asked you more than once;
8 Habla concisamente, di mucho en pocas palabras: sé como uno que sabe y sin embargo se calla.	8 Be brief, but say much in those few words, be like the wise man, taciturn.
9 En medio de los grandes, no pretendas igualarlos, y si otro habla, sé parco en tus palabras.	9 When among your elders be not forward, and with officials be not too insistent.
10 El relámpago brilla antes del trueno y el encanto precede al hombre modesto.	10 Like the lightning that flashes before a storm is the esteem that shines on modesty.
11 Levántate a tiempo, se seas el último en irte, ve derecho a tu casa, sin entretenerte por el camino.	11 When it is time to leave, tarry not; be off for home! There take your ease,
12 Diviértete allí como más te guste, pero sin pecar con palabras arrogantes.	12 And there enjoy doing as you wish, but without sin or words of pride.
13 Y por todo eso, bendice a tu Creador, que te embriaga con sus bienes.	13 Above all, give praise to your Creator, who showers his favors upon you.
14 El que teme al Señor acepta ser instruido y los que lo buscan ardientemente alcanzarán su favor.	14 He who would find God must accept discipline; he who seeks him obtains his request.
15 El que busca la Ley se saciará de ella, pero al que finge observarla le sirve de tropiezo.	15 He who studies the law masters it, but the hypocrite finds it a trap.
16 Los que temen al Señor descubren lo que es recto y hacen brillar sus preceptos como una lámpara.	16 His judgment is sound who fears the LORD; out of obscurity he draws forth a clear plan.
17 El hombre pecador no tolera ningún reproche y encuentra pretextos para hacer lo que quiere.	17 The sinner turns aside reproof and distorts the law to suit his purpose.
18 El hombre de consejo no descuida la reflexión; el impío y el arrogante proceden temerariamente.	18 The thoughtful man will not neglect direction; the proud and insolent man is deterred by nothing.
19 No hagas nada sin el debido consejo y no te arrepentirás de tus acciones.	19 Do nothing without counsel, and then you need have no regrets.
20 No vayas por un camino lleno de obstáculos y no tropezarás contra las piedras.	20 Go not on a way that is set with snares, and let not the same thing trip you twice.
21 No te fíes del camino despejado	21 Be not too sure even of smooth roads,
22 y cuídate hasta de tus hijos.	22 be careful on all your paths.
23 En todo lo que hagas, sé fiel a ti mismo, porque también eso es observar los mandamientos.	23 Whatever you do, be on your guard, for in this way you will keep the commandments.
24 El que confía en la Ley presta atención a los mandamientos y el que confía en el Señor no sufrirá menoscabo.	24 He who keeps the law preserves himself; and he who trusts in the LORD shall not be put to shame.
