1 Come la neve all'estate e come la pioggia alla messe, così lo stolto è indegno della gloria.	1 Like snow in summer, or rain in harvest, honor for a fool is out of place.
2 Come il passero svolazza, come la rondine vola via, così la maledizione senza motivo non ha effetto.	2 Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flight, a curse uncalled-for arrives nowhere.
3 Briglia al cavallo, freno all'asino e bastone per il dorso degli stolti.	3 The whip for the horse, the bridle for the ass, and the rod for the back of fools.
4 Non risponder allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, altrimenti rassomigli a lui pure tu.	4 Answer not the fool according to his folly, lest you too become like him.
5 Rispondi allo stolto per la sua stoltezza, perché non si creda di esser saggio.	5 Answer the fool according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.
6 Si mutila i piedi, beve la violenza chi invia un messaggio per mezzo di uno stolto.	6 He cuts off his feet, he drinks down violence, who sends messages by a fool.
7 Vacillano le ginocchia dello sciancato e il proverbio sulla bocca degli stolti.	7 A proverb in the mouth of a fool hangs limp, like crippled legs.
8 Come uno che mette una pietra nella fionda, così è chi dà gloria allo stolto.	8 Like one who entangles the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.
9 Una spina cresce nella mano dell'ubriacone: il proverbio nella bocca degli stolti.	9 Like a thorn stick brandished by the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
10 Un arciere che ferisce ogni passante è colui che ingaggia uno stolto.	10 Like an archer wounding all who pass by is he who hires a drunken fool.
11 Come un cane ritorna al suo vomito, lo stolto ripete la sua stoltezza.	11 As the dog returns to his vomit, so the fool repeats his folly.
12 Vedi uno che si crede di esser saggio? C'è da sperar più dallo stolto che da lui.	12 You see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13 Dice il pigro: "C'è una fiera nella strada, un leone è nelle vie!".	13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the street, a lion in the middle of the square!"
14 La porta gira sul suo cardine e il pigro sul suo letto.	14 The door turns on its hinges, the sluggard, on his bed!
15 Allunga il pigro la sua mano al piatto, ma fa fatica a portarla alla sua bocca.	15 The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he is too weary to lift it to his mouth.
16 Il pigro si reputa più saggio di sette che rispondono con senno.	16 The sluggard imagines himself wiser than seven men who answer with good sense.
17 Come chi prende per la coda il can che passa è chi si impiccia di una lite altrui.	17 Like the man who seizes a passing dog by the ears is he who meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18 Come colui che per fare il pazzo tira giavellotti, frecce e morte,	18 Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows
19 così è colui che mente al suo prossimo e dice: "Non mi posso divertire?".	19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, "I was only joking."
20 Finisce la legna, il fuoco si spegne; non c'è denigratore, la collera si placa.	20 For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides.
21 Carbone sulle braci e legna sopra il fuoco: è l'uomo rissoso che attizza sempre liti.	21 What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife.
22 Le parole del denigratore son cibi deliziosi che scendono fino al fondo delle viscere.	22 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.
23 Argento con scorie spalmato sulla creta: labbra ardenti e cuore malvagio.	23 Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart.
24 Chi odia si maschera con le sue labbra, ma cova nel suo intimo l'inganno.	24 With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit;
25 Se aggrazia la sua voce non gli credere: perché ci son sette obbrobri nel suo cuore.	25 When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart.
26 Può nascondersi l'odio con la dissimulazione: ma la sua malizia si svelerà nell'assemblea.	26 A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly.
27 Chi scava una fossa ci cade e una pietra ricade su chi la rotola.	27 He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it.
28 Una lingua bugiarda odia chi ferisce e una bocca sdolcinata produce la rovina.	28 The lying tongue is its owner's enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin.
