1 Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:	1 Giobbe continuò il suo discorso dicendo:
2 As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who hath brought my soul to bitterness,	2 «Per la vita di Dio, che mi ha privato del mio diritto, per l’Onnipotente che mi ha amareggiato l’animo,
3 As long as breath remaineth in me, and the spirit of God in my nostrils,	3 finché ci sarà in me un soffio di vita, e l’alito di Dio nelle mie narici,
4 My lips shall not speak iniquity, neither shall my tongue contrive lying.	4 mai le mie labbra diranno falsità e mai la mia lingua mormorerà menzogna!
5 God forbid that I should judge you to be just: till I die I will not depart from my innocence.	5 Lontano da me darvi ragione; fino alla morte non rinuncerò alla mia integrità.
6 My justification, which I have begun to hold, I will not forsake: for my heart doth not reprehend me in all my life.	6 Mi terrò saldo nella mia giustizia senza cedere, la mia coscienza non mi rimprovera nessuno dei miei giorni.
7 Let my enemy be as the ungodly, and my adversary as the wicked one.	7 Sia trattato come reo il mio nemico e il mio avversario come un ingiusto.
8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite if through covetousness he take by violence, and God deliver not his soul?	8 Che cosa infatti può sperare l’empio, quando finirà, quando Dio gli toglierà la vita?
9 Will God hear his cry, when distress shall come upon him?	9 Ascolterà forse Dio il suo grido, quando la sventura piomberà su di lui?
10 Or can he delight himself in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times?	10 Troverà forse il suo conforto nell’Onnipotente? Potrà invocare Dio in ogni momento?
11 I will teach you by the hand of God, what the Almighty hath, and I will not conceal it.	11 Io vi istruirò sul potere di Dio, non vi nasconderò i pensieri dell’Onnipotente.
12 Behold you all know it, and why do you speak vain things without cause?	12 Ecco, voi tutti lo vedete bene: perché dunque vi perdete in cose vane?
13 This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the inheritance of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty.	13 Questa è la sorte che Dio riserva all’uomo malvagio, l’eredità che i violenti ricevono dall’Onnipotente.
14 If his sons be multiplied, they shall be for the sword, and his grandsons shall not be filled with bread.	14 Se ha molti figli, saranno destinati alla spada e i suoi discendenti non avranno pane da sfamarsi;
15 They that shall remain of him, shall be buried in death, and his widows shall not weep.	15 i suoi superstiti saranno sepolti dalla peste e le loro vedove non potranno fare lamento.
16 If he shall heap together silver as earth, and prepare raiment as clay,	16 Se ammassa argento come la polvere e ammucchia vestiti come fango,
17 He shall prepare indeed, but the just man shall be clothed with it: and the innocent shall divide the silver.	17 egli li prepara, ma il giusto li indosserà, e l’argento lo erediterà l’innocente.
18 He hath built his house as a moth, and as a keeper he hath made a booth.	18 Ha costruito la casa come una tela di ragno e come una capanna fatta da un guardiano.
19 The rich man when he shall sleep shall take away nothing with him: he shall open his eyes and find nothing.	19 Si corica ricco, ma per l’ultima volta, quando apre gli occhi, non avrà più nulla.
20 Poverty like water shall take hold on him, a tempest shall oppress him in the night.	20 Come acque il terrore lo assale, di notte se lo rapisce l’uragano;
21 A burning wind shall take him up, and carry him away, and as a whirlwind shall snatch him from his place.	21 il vento d’oriente lo solleva e se ne va, lo sradica dalla sua dimora,
22 And he shall cast upon him, and shall not spare: out of his hand he would willingly flee.	22 lo bersaglia senza pietà ed egli tenterà di sfuggire alla sua presa.
23 He shall clasp his hands upon him, and shall hiss at him, beholding his place.	23 Si battono le mani contro di lui e si fischia di scherno su di lui ovunque si trovi.
