| 1 Convocato che ebbe presso di sé tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, | 1 Then the king sent, and all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem were gathered to him. |
| 2 il re salì al tempio del Signore con tutti gli uomini di Giuda, tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo dal più piccolo al più grande, e lesse all'uditorio tutte le parole del libro della legge che era stato trovato nel tempio del Signore. | 2 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, and with him all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests and the prophets, all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD. |
| 3 Il re, stando sul podio, concluse alla presenza del Signore l'alleanza che gli imponeva di seguire il Signore, di custodire i suoi comandamenti, le sue leggi e i suoi precetti con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, al fine di attuare le clausole dell'alleanza scritta in questo libro. Tutto il popolo aderì all'alleanza. | 3 And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people joined in the covenant. |
| 4 Il re ordinò al sommo sacerdote Chelkia, ai sacerdoti in seconda e ai custodi della soglia di far portare fuori del santuario del Signore tutti gli oggetti preparati per il culto di Baal, di Asera e di tutto l'esercito del cielo. Poi li bruciò fuori di Gerusalemme, nei campi del Cedron e portò le loro ceneri a Betel. | 4 And the king commanded Hilkiah, the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel. |
| 5 Egli soppresse i falsi sacerdoti che i re di Giuda avevano costituito e che bruciavano aromi sulle alture, nelle città di Giuda e nei dintorni di Gerusalemme, e anche quelli che bruciavano incenso a Baal, al sole, alla luna, alle costellazioni e a tutto l'esercito del cielo. | 5 And he deposed the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places at the cities of Judah and round about Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and the moon, and the constellations, and all the host of the heavens. |
| 6 Fece portare il palo sacro dal tempio del Signore fuori di Gerusalemme, nella valle del Cedron, dove lo bruciò e lo ridusse in cenere, che poi gettò nel sepolcro dei figli del popolo. | 6 And he brought out the Asherah from the house of the LORD, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people. |
| 7 Demolì anche la casa dei prostituti sacri che si trovavano nel tempio del Signore, dove le donne tessevano i veli per Asera. | 7 And he broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes which were in the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah. |
| 8 Radunò tutti i sacerdoti dalle città di Giuda e profanò le alture su cui si era bruciato incenso, da Gabaa fino a Bersabea. Abbatté inoltre l'altura dei satiri, che si trovava all'ingresso della porta di Giosuè, governatore della città, a sinistra di chi entra per la porta della città. | 8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on one's left at the gate of the city. |
| 9 Però i sacerdoti delle alture non potevano salire sull'altare del Signore a Gerusalemme, benché mangiassero i pani senza lievito in mezzo ai loro fratelli. | 9 However, the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren. |
| 10 Egli profanò il focolare idolatrico che si trova nella valle di Ben-Innòm, affinché nessuno bruciasse il proprio figlio o la propria figlia in onore di Moloch. | 10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no one might burn his son or his daughter as an offering to Molech. |
| 11 Rimosse i cavalli che i re di Giuda avevano dedicato al sole all'ingresso del tempio del Signore, presso la camera dell'eunuco Netan-Mèlech, che si trovava nei recinti; bruciò nel fuoco il carro del sole. | 11 And he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the precincts; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. |
| 12 Il re distrusse gli altari che si trovavano sulla terrazza della camera superiore di Acaz e che i re di Giuda avevano fatto; frantumò gli altari che Manasse aveva fatto nei due cortili del tempio del Signore e ne gettò la polvere nella valle del Cedron. | 12 And the altars on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, he pulled down and broke in pieces, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron. |
| 13 Il re profanò le alture che si trovavano di fronte a Gerusalemme, a destra del monte degli Ulivi e che Salomone, re d'Israele, aveva costruito per Astarte, obbrobrio dei Sidoni, per Camos, obbrobrio di Moab, e per Milcom, abominazione degli Ammoniti. | 13 And the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, to the south of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. |
| 14 Egli frantumò anche le stele, tagliò i pali sacri e riempì i loro posti di ossa umane. | 14 And he broke in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with the bones of men. |
| 15 Demolì anche l'altare del tempio di Betel e l'altura creata da Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt, che aveva fatto peccare Israele: ne frantumò le pietre, le ridusse in polvere e bruciò il palo sacro. | 15 Moreover the altar at Bethel, the high place erected by Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, that altar with the high place he pulled down and he broke in pieces its stones, crushing them to dust; also he burned the Asherah. |
| 16 Guardato che ebbe intorno, Giosia vide i sepolcri che erano là sul monte; mandò a prelevare le ossa da questi sepolcri e le bruciò sull'altare. Così lo profanò secondo la parola del Signore, che l'uomo di Dio pronunciò quando Geroboamo si trovava accanto all'altare, durante la festa. Voltatosi, Giosia fissò lo sguardo sul sepolcro dell'uomo di Dio che aveva predetto queste parole | 16 And as Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the mount; and he sent and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who had predicted these things. |

Gli uomini della città gli risposero: "E' il sepolcro dell'uomo di Dio che venne da Giuda e predisse queste cose che tu hai fatto sull'altare di Betel". | 17 Then he said, "What is yonder monument that I see?" And the men of the city told him, "It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and predicted these things which you have done against the altar at Bethel." |
| 18 Quegli allora disse: "Lasciatelo in pace! Nessuno smuova le sue ossa". Così le sue ossa rimasero intatte insieme a quelle del profeta ch'era venuto da Samaria. | 18 And he said, "Let him be; let no man move his bones." So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria. |
| 19 Giosia rimosse pure tutti i santuari delle alture che si trovavano nelle città di Samaria, che i re d'Israele avevano fatto per irritare il Signore. Egli fece ad essi tutto quello che aveva fatto a Betel. | 19 And all the shrines also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which kings of Israel had made, provoking the LORD to anger, Josiah removed; he did to them according to all that he had done at Bethel. |
| 20 Immolò sugli altari tutti i sacerdoti che si trovavano colà e vi bruciò sopra ossa umane; poi fece ritorno a Gerusalemme. | 20 And he slew all the priests of the high places who were there, upon the altars, and burned the bones of men upon them. Then he returned to Jerusalem. |
| 21 Il re ordinò a tutto il popolo: "Celebrate una Pasqua in onore del Signore, vostro Dio, come è scritto in questo libro dell'alleanza". | 21 And the king commanded all the people, "Keep the passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant." |
| 22 Non s'era più celebrata una Pasqua come quella dal tempo dei giudici che avevano governato Israele e durante tutto il tempo dei re d'Israele e di Giuda. | 22 For no such passover had been kept since the days of the judges who judged Israel, or during all the days of the kings of Israel or of the kings of Judah; |
| 23 Solamente nell'anno diciottesimo del re Giosia fu celebrata questa in onore del Signore in Gerusalemme. | 23 but in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this passover was kept to the LORD in Jerusalem. |
| 24 Giosia eliminò pure le negromanti, gl'indovini, gli amuleti, gl'idoli e tutti gli abomini che si potevano vedere nel paese di Giuda e in Gerusalemme; in questo modo realizzò le parole della legge scritte nel libro che il sacerdote Chelkia aveva trovato nel tempio del Signore. | 24 Moreover Josiah put away the mediums and the wizards and the teraphim and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD. |
| 25 Prima di lui non vi fu un re che, come lui, si sia rivolto al Signore con tutto il suo cuore, con tutta la sua anima e con tutte le sue forze, secondo tutta la legge di Mosè; neppure dopo di lui ne sorse uno come lui. | 25 Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; nor did any like him arise after him. |
| 26 Tuttavia il Signore non smorzò l'ardore della sua grande ira di cui era acceso contro Giuda, a causa di tutte le prevaricazioni commesse da Manasse. | 26 Still the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, by which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him. |
| 27 Perciò il Signore disse: "Rimuoverò anche Giuda dal mio cospetto, come ho rimosso Israele, rigetterò questa città che ho scelto, cioè Gerusalemme, e il tempio di cui avevo detto: "Là sarà il mio nome". | 27 And the LORD said, "I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there." |
| 28 Le altre gesta di Giosia e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda? | 28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? |
| 29 Durante la sua vita il faraone Necao, re di Egitto, salì verso il re di Assiria sul fiume Eufrate. Il re Giosia gli mosse incontro, ma Necao lo uccise al primo scontro. | 29 In his days Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt went up to the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates. King Josiah went to meet him; and Pharaoh Neco slew him at Megiddo, when he saw him. |
| 30 Allora i suoi servi lo caricarono già morto su un carro, lo condussero da Meghiddo a Gerusalemme e lo seppellirono nel suo sepolcro. Il popolo della terra prese Ioacaz, figlio di Giosia, lo unse e lo proclamò re al posto di suo padre. | 30 And his servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead. |
| 31 Al momento della sua ascesa al trono Ioacaz aveva ventitré anni e regnò tre mesi in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Camutàl, figlia di Geremia, da Libna. | 31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. |
| 32 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore come avevano fatto i suoi antenati. | 32 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done. |
| 33 Il faraone Necao lo fece prigioniero a Ribla, nel paese di Camat, impedendogli così di regnare in Gerusalemme, e impose al paese un tributo di cento talenti d'argento e di dieci talenti d'oro. | 33 And Pharaoh Neco put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and laid upon the land a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. |
| 34 Il faraone Necao creò re Eliakìm, figlio di Giosia, al posto di suo padre Giosia e cambiò il suo nome in quello di Ioiakìm. Poi prese Ioacaz e lo condusse in Egitto, dove morì. | 34 And Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there. |
| 35 Ioiakìm consegnò l'argento e l'oro al faraone, ma dovette imporre tasse al paese per consegnare la somma richiesta. Riscosse infatti da ognuno del popolo della terra, secondo il suo estimo, l'argento e l'oro che doveva consegnare al faraone Necao. | 35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he taxed the land to give the money according to the command of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, from every one according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Neco. |
| 36 Al momento della sua ascesa al trono Ioiakìm aveva venticinque anni e regnò undici anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Zebida, figlia di Pedaia, da Ruma. | 36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. |
| 37 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore come avevano fatto i suoi antenati. | 37 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done. |
