1 Indeed, she reaches from end to end mightily and governs all things well.	1 Ella pertanto arriva da una estremità all'altra: con possanza, e con soavità le cose tutte dispone.
2 Her I loved and sought after from my youth; I sought to take her for my bride and was enamored of her beauty.	2 Questa io amai, e ricercai dalla prima mia giovinezza, è procurai di prendermela per isposa, e divenni amatore di sua bellezza.
3 She adds to nobility the splendor of companionship with God; even the LORD of all loved her.	3 La nobiltà di lei è dimostrata gloriosamente dal convivere, che ella fa con Dio; ed anzi lo stesso Signore di tutte le cose la ama:
4 For she is instructress in the understanding of God, the selector of his works.	4 Perocché della scienza di Dio ella è maestra, e delle opere di lui fa scelta.
5 And if riches be a desirable possession in life, what is more rich than Wisdom, who produces all things?	5 E se in questa vita si appetiscono le ricchezze, che v'ha di più ricco, che la sapienza fattrice di tutte le cose?
6 And if prudence renders service, who in the world is a better craftsman than she?	6 E se l'intelligenza produce delle opere, chi più di lei in queste cose, che esistono, l'arte mostrò?
7 Or if one loves justice, the fruits of her works are virtues; For she teaches moderation and prudence, justice and fortitude, and nothing in life is more useful for men than these.	7 E se uno ama in giustizia, le fatiche di lei hanno per obbietto delle grandi virtù; perocché ella insegna la temperanza, la prudenza, e la giustizia, e la fortezza, delle quali nissuna cosa è più utile negli uomini nella lor vita.
8 Or again, if one yearns for copious learning, she knows the things of old, and infers those yet to come. She understands the turns of phrases and the solutions of riddles; signs and wonders she knows in advance and the outcome of times and ages.	8 E se uno brama il molto sapere, ella è, che sa le passate cose, e fa giudizio delle future, conosce gli artifizj del discorso, e la soluzione degli enimmi, conosce i segni, e i prodigj prima che succedano, e gli avvenimenti de' tempi, e de' secoli.
9 So I determined to take her to live with me, knowing that she would be my counselor while all was well, and my comfort in care and grief.	9 Lei adunque mi risolvei di prendere a convivere con me, ben sapendo come ella comunicherà meco i suoi beni, e mi consolerà nelle cure, e negli affanni.
10 For her sake I should have glory among the masses, and esteem from the elders, though I be but a youth.	10 Per lei io sarò illustre presso la moltitudine, e giovane sarò onorato dai seniori.
11 I should become keen in judgment, and should be a marvel before rulers.	11 E mi troveranno sottile nel giudicare, e sarò ammirato dinanzi ai grandi, e i principi mostreranno ne' volli loro com'io lor rechi stupore.
12 They would abide my silence and attend my utterance; and as I spoke on further, they would place their hands upon their mouths.	12 S' io tacerò, aspetteranno, ch'io parli, se parlerò, saranno intenti a me, e andando io avanti nel discorso, si metteranno il dito alla bocca.
13 For her sake I should have immortality and leave to those after me an everlasting memory.	13 Oltre a ciò per lei avrò io l'immortalità, e lascerò a quelli, che saran dopo di me eterna la mia ricordanza.
14 I should govern peoples, and nations would be my subjects-	14 Governerò i popoli, e saranno soggette a me le nazioni.
15 terrible princes, hearing of me, would be afraid; in the assembly I should appear noble, and in war courageous.	15 I re feroci temeranno al sentire il mio nome: col popolo parrò clemente, e forte in guerra.
16 Within my dwelling, I should take my repose beside her; For association with her involves no bitterness and living with her no grief, but rather joy and gladness.	16 Entrando nella mia casa avrò presso di lei il mio riposo: perocché atta ha di amaro il conversare con lei, e il convivere insieme con essa non ha tedio, ma consolazione, e gaudio.
17 Thinking thus within myself, and reflecting in my heart That there is immortality in kinship with Wisdom,	17 Queste cose avendo io ripensate; e nel mio cuor rammentando, come nell'unione colla sapienza si ha l'immortalità,
18 and good pleasure in her friendship, and unfailing riches in the works of her hands, And that in frequenting her society there is prudence, and fair renown in sharing her discourses, I went about seeking to take her for my own.	18 E nella amicizia di lei una buona dilettazione, e nelle opere delle mani di lei una inesausta ricchezza, e nel confabulare con lei la prudenza, e nell'essere a parte de' suoi ragionamenti si ha acquisto di gloria, io andava attorno in cerca di lei per farla mia.
19 Now, I was a well-favored child, and I came by a noble nature;	19 Or io era fanciullo ingegnoso, ed ebbi in sorte un'anima buona.
20 or rather, being noble, I attained an unsullied body.	20 Ed essendo io più buono venni ad avere corpo immacolato.
21 And knowing that I could not otherwise possess her except God gave it-- and this, too, was prudence, to know whose is the gift-- I went to the LORD and besought him, and said with all my heart:	21 E tosto ch'io seppi, come io non poteva essere continente, se Dio non mei concedeva (ed era effetto di sapienza il sapere da chi venga tal dono), io mi presentai al Signore, e lo pregai, e dissi con tutto il mio cuore:
