1 Indeed, she reaches from end to end mightily and governs all things well.	1 La sapienza si estende vigorosa da un’estremità all’altra e governa a meraviglia l’universo.
2 Her I loved and sought after from my youth; I sought to take her for my bride and was enamored of her beauty.	2 È lei che ho amato e corteggiato fin dalla mia giovinezza, ho bramato di farla mia sposa, mi sono innamorato della sua bellezza.
3 She adds to nobility the splendor of companionship with God; even the LORD of all loved her.	3 Ella manifesta la sua nobile origine vivendo in comunione con Dio, poiché il Signore dell’universo l’ha amata;
4 For she is instructress in the understanding of God, the selector of his works.	4 infatti è iniziata alla scienza di Dio e discerne le sue opere.
5 And if riches be a desirable possession in life, what is more rich than Wisdom, who produces all things?	5 Se la ricchezza è un bene desiderabile in vita, che cosa c’è di più ricco della sapienza, che opera tutto?
6 And if prudence renders service, who in the world is a better craftsman than she?	6 Se è la prudenza ad agire, chi più di lei è artefice di quanto esiste?
7 Or if one loves justice, the fruits of her works are virtues; For she teaches moderation and prudence, justice and fortitude, and nothing in life is more useful for men than these.	7 Se uno ama la giustizia, le virtù sono il frutto delle sue fatiche. Ella infatti insegna la temperanza e la prudenza, la giustizia e la fortezza, delle quali nulla è più utile agli uomini durante la vita.
8 Or again, if one yearns for copious learning, she knows the things of old, and infers those yet to come. She understands the turns of phrases and the solutions of riddles; signs and wonders she knows in advance and the outcome of times and ages.	8 Se uno desidera anche un’esperienza molteplice, ella conosce le cose passate e intravede quelle future, conosce le sottigliezze dei discorsi e le soluzioni degli enigmi, comprende in anticipo segni e prodigi e anche le vicende dei tempi e delle epoche.
9 So I determined to take her to live with me, knowing that she would be my counselor while all was well, and my comfort in care and grief.	9 Ho dunque deciso di dividere con lei la mia vita, certo che mi sarebbe stata consigliera di buone azioni e conforto nelle preoccupazioni e nel dolore.
10 For her sake I should have glory among the masses, and esteem from the elders, though I be but a youth.	10 Per lei avrò gloria tra le folle e, anche se giovane, onore presso gli anziani.
11 I should become keen in judgment, and should be a marvel before rulers.	11 Sarò trovato perspicace nel giudicare, sarò ammirato di fronte ai potenti.
12 They would abide my silence and attend my utterance; and as I spoke on further, they would place their hands upon their mouths.	12 Se tacerò, resteranno in attesa, se parlerò, mi presteranno attenzione, e se mi dilungo nel parlare, si tapperanno la bocca.
13 For her sake I should have immortality and leave to those after me an everlasting memory.	13 Grazie a lei avrò l’immortalità e lascerò un ricordo eterno a quelli che verranno dopo di me.
14 I should govern peoples, and nations would be my subjects-	14 Governerò popoli, e nazioni mi saranno soggette.
15 terrible princes, hearing of me, would be afraid; in the assembly I should appear noble, and in war courageous.	15 Sentendo parlare di me, crudeli tiranni si spaventeranno; mi mostrerò buono con il popolo e coraggioso in guerra.
16 Within my dwelling, I should take my repose beside her; For association with her involves no bitterness and living with her no grief, but rather joy and gladness.	16 Ritornato a casa, riposerò vicino a lei, perché la sua compagnia non dà amarezza, né dolore il vivere con lei, ma contentezza e gioia.
17 Thinking thus within myself, and reflecting in my heart That there is immortality in kinship with Wisdom,	17 Riflettendo su queste cose dentro di me e pensando in cuor mio che nella parentela con la sapienza c’è l’immortalità
18 and good pleasure in her friendship, and unfailing riches in the works of her hands, And that in frequenting her society there is prudence, and fair renown in sharing her discourses, I went about seeking to take her for my own.	18 e grande godimento vi è nella sua amicizia e nel lavoro delle sue mani sta una ricchezza inesauribile e nell’assidua compagnia di lei c’è la prudenza e fama nel conversare con lei, andavo cercando il modo di prenderla con me.
19 Now, I was a well-favored child, and I came by a noble nature;	19 Ero un ragazzo di nobile indole, ebbi in sorte un’anima buona
20 or rather, being noble, I attained an unsullied body.	20 o piuttosto, essendo buono, ero entrato in un corpo senza macchia.
21 And knowing that I could not otherwise possess her except God gave it-- and this, too, was prudence, to know whose is the gift-- I went to the LORD and besought him, and said with all my heart:	21 Sapendo che non avrei ottenuto la sapienza in altro modo, se Dio non me l’avesse concessa – ed è già segno di saggezza sapere da chi viene tale dono –, mi rivolsi al Signore e lo pregai, dicendo con tutto il mio cuore:
