Job 26

DOUAI-RHEIMSJERUSALEM
Then Job answered, and said:1 Job prit la parole et dit:
Whose helper art thou? is it of him that is weak? and dost thou hold up the arm of him that has no strength?2 Comme tu sais bien soutenir le faible, secourir le bras sans vigueur!
To whom hast thou given counsel? perhaps to him that hath no wisdom, and thou hast shewn thy very great prudence.3 Quels bons conseils tu donnes à l'ignorant, comme ton savoir est fertile en ressources!
Whom hast thou desired to teach? was it not him that made life?4 Mais ces discours, à qui s'adressent-ils, et d'où provient l'esprit qui sort de toi?
Behold the giants groan under the waters, and they that dwell with them.5 Les Ombres tremblent sous terre, les eaux et leurs habitants sont dans l'effroi.
Hell is naked before him, and there is no covering for destruction.6 Devant lui, le Shéol est à nu, la Perdition à découvert.
He stretched out the north over the empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.7 C'est lui qui a étendu le Septentrion sur le vide, suspendu la terre sans appui.
He bindeth up the waters in his clouds, so that they break not out and fall down together.8 Il enferme les eaux dans ses nuages. Sans que la nuée crève sous leur poids.
He withholdeth the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud over it.9 Il couvre la face de la pleine lune et déploie sur elle sa nuée.
He hath set bounds about the waters, till light and darkness come to an end.10 Il a tracé un cercle à la surface des eaux, aux confins de la lumière et des ténèbres.
The pillars of heaven tremble, and dread at his beck.11 Les colonnes des cieux sont ébranlées, frappées de stupeur quand il menace.
By his power the seas are suddenly gathered together, and his wisdom has struck the proud one.12 Par sa force, il a brassé la Mer, par son habileté, écrasé Rahab.
His spirit hath adorned the heavens, and his obstetric hand brought forth the winding serpent.13 Son souffle a clarifié les Cieux, sa main transpercé le Serpent Fuyard.
Lo, these things are said in part of his ways: and seeing we have heard scarce a little drop of his word, who shall be able to behold the thunder of his greatness?14 Tout cela, c'est l'extérieur de ses oeuvres, et nous n'en saisissons qu'un faible écho. Mais le tonnerrede sa puissance, qui le comprendra?
