1 À l’homme les projets, à Yahvé la décision!	1 It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue.
2 Chacun justifie les décisions qu’il a prises, mais Yahvé pèse les cœurs.	2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.
3 Remets à Yahvé les fruits de ton travail, et tes projets se réaliseront.	3 Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed.
4 Yahvé a fait toutes choses en vue d’une fin, et même les méchants pour le jour du malheur.	4 The Lord hath made all things for himself: the wicked also for the evil day.
5 Un cœur hautain, Yahvé le déteste: il ne pourra pas rester impuni.	5 Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice; and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.
6 Par la bonté et la fidélité on expie sa faute, mais avec la crainte de Yahvé on se détourne du mal.	6 By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
7 Si Yahvé apprécie ta conduite, il fera que tes ennemis se réconcilient avec toi.	7 When the ways of man shall please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.
8 Pour qui est honnête, le peu qu’il a vaut mieux qu’un gros revenu mal acquis.	8 Better is a little with justice, than great revenues with iniquity.
9 Chacun décide en soi-même son chemin, mais c’est Yahvé qui assure ses pas.	9 The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps.
10 Le roi a parlé: c’est un oracle! Il ne se trompe pas lorsqu’il doit juger.	10 Divination is in the lips of the king, his mouth shall not err in judgment.
11 Yahvé exige balance et plateaux justes; le jeu complet des poids est son affaire.	11 Weight and balance are judgments of the Lord: and his work all the weights of the bag.
12 Les rois ne font le mal à aucun prix: ils savent que leur trône a pour base la justice.	12 They that act wickedly are abominable to the king: for the throne is established by justice.
13 Qui commande avec justice est apprécié du roi; il aime les hommes droits.	13 Just lips are the delight of kings: he that speaketh right things shall be loved.
14 Fureur du roi: danger de mort! Mais un homme sage peut l’apaiser.	14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death : and the wise man will pacify it.
15 Que s’éclaire le visage du roi et c’est la vie! Sa bienveillance est comme une pluie de printemps.	15 In the cheerfulness of the king's countenance is life: and his clemency is like the latter rain.
16 Acquiers la sagesse plutôt que l’or; acquiers un jugement sûr au lieu de rechercher l’argent.	16 Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.
17 La route des hommes droits les éloigne du mal; qui regarde où il marche restera en vie.	17 The path of the just departeth from evils: he that keepeth his soul keepeth his way.
18 Avant la ruine il y a eu l’orgueil; l’arrogance a précédé la chute.	18 Pride goeth before destruction: and the spirit is lifted up before a fall.
19 Mieux vaut rester humble avec ceux d’en bas que de partager les dépouilles avec les orgueilleux.	19 It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the proud.
20 Qui réfléchit sur les dits et gestes trouvera le bonheur; heureux celui qui se fie en Yahvé!	20 The learned in word shall find good things: and he that trusteth in the Lord is blessed.
21 Qui a la sagesse, c’est lui qui est intelligent: les paroles qui tombent juste emportent l’adhésion.	21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and he that is sweet in words shall attain to greater things.
22 Le bon sens est source de vie pour qui le possède, la bêtise des sots sera leur châtiment.	22 Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it: the instruction of fools is foolishness.
23 La sagesse qu’on a au cœur donne un sens au discours: ce sont des paroles qui emporteront l’adhésion.	23 The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth: and shall add grace to his lips.
24 Des propos bienveillants sont comme un rayon de miel: agréables à la bouche, bons pour la santé.	24 Well ordered words are as a honeycomb: sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Notre chemin parfois nous semble droit, mais il conduit finalement à la mort.	25 There is a way that seemeth to a man right: and the ends thereof lead to death.
26 Le besoin du travailleur travaille pour lui, sa bouche a des exigences et le presse.	26 The soul of him that laboureth, laboureth for himself, because his mouth hath obliged him to it.
27 Le vaurien prépare le malheur; ce qui sort de sa bouche est un feu dévorant.	27 The wicked man diggeth evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
28 L’homme pervers provoque les disputes, et le rapporteur divise les amis.	28 A perverse man stirreth up quarrels: and one full of words separateth princes.
29 Qui veut abuser de son prochain commence par le séduire, et il le met sur une mauvaise voie.	29 An unjust man allureth his friend: and leadeth him into a way that is not good
30 Celui qui regarde de travers médite des fourberies: il pince les lèvres, il a déjà commis le péché.	30 He that with fixed eyes deviseth wicked things, biting his lips, bringeth: evil to pass.
31 Les cheveux blancs sont une couronne respectable: elle est au bout du chemin de la justice.	31 Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.
32 Qui est lent à la colère vaut mieux qu’un héros; qui sait se dominer est plus qu’un preneur de villes.	32 The patient man is better than the valiant: and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh cities.
33 On a tiré à pile ou face dans le pan du manteau, mais c’est de Yahvé qu’est venue la décision!	33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord.
