Psalms 72

1 A Psalm of Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to those who are upright in heart.	1 Salmo de Asaf. Oh, como Deus é bom para os corações retos, e o Senhor para com aqueles que têm o coração puro!
2 But my feet were nearly moved; my steps had nearly slipped.	2 Contudo, meus pés iam resvalar, por pouco não escorreguei,
3 For I was zealous over the iniquitous, seeing the peacefulness of sinners.	3 porque me indignava contra os ímpios, vendo o bem-estar dos maus:
4 For they have no respect for their death, nor do they have support in their wounds.	4 não existe sofrimento para eles, seus corpos são robustos e sadios.
5 They are not with the hardships of men, nor will they be scourged with men.	5 Dos sofrimentos dos mortais não participam, não são atormentados como os outros homens.
6 Therefore, arrogance has held on to them. They have been covered with their iniquity and impiety.	6 Eles se adornam com um colar de orgulho, e se cobrem com um manto de arrogância.
7 Their iniquity has proceeded, as if from fat. They have parted from the affection of the heart.	7 Da gordura que os incha sai a iniquidade, e transborda a temeridade.
8 They have thought and spoken wickedness. They have spoken iniquity in high places.	8 Zombam e falam com malícia, discursam, altivamente, em tom ameaçador.
9 They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has traversed the earth.	9 Com seus propósitos afrontam o céu e suas línguas ferem toda a terra.
10 Therefore, my people will be converted here, and fullness of days will be found in them.	10 Por isso, se volta para eles o meu povo, e bebe com avidez das suas águas.
11 And they said, “How would God know?” and, “Isn’t there knowledge in high places?”	11 E dizem então: “Porventura Deus o sabe? Tem o Altíssimo conhecimento disso?”.
12 Behold, these are sinners, and, abounding in this age, they have obtained riches.	12 Assim são os pecadores que, tranquilamente, aumentam suas riquezas.
13 And I said: So then, it is without purpose that I have justified my heart and washed my hands among the innocent.	13 Então, foi em vão que conservei o coração puro e na inocência lavei as minhas mãos?
14 And I have been scourged all day long, and I have received my chastisement in the mornings.	14 Pois tenho sofrido muito e sido castigado cada dia.
15 If I were to say that I would explain this: Behold, I would condemn this nation of your sons.	15 Se eu pensasse: “Também vou falar como eles”, seria infiel à raça de vossos filhos.
16 I considered, so that I might know this. It is a hardship before me,	16 Reflito para compreender este problema, mui penosa me pareceu esta tarefa,
17 until I may enter into the Sanctuary of God, and understand it to its last part.	17 até o momento em que entrei no vosso santuário e em que me dei conta da sorte que os espera.
18 So, because of deceitfulness, truly, you have placed it before them. While they were being lifted up, you were casting them down.	18 Sim, vós os colocais num terreno escorregadio, à ruína vós os conduzis.
19 How have they been brought to desolation? They have suddenly failed. They have perished because of their iniquity.	19 Eis que subitamente se arruinaram, sumiram, destruídos por catástrofe medonha.
20 As a dream is to those who awaken, O Lord, so will you reduce their image to nothing in your city.	20 Como de um sonho ao se despertar, Senhor, levantando-vos, desprezais a sombra deles.
21 For my heart has been inflamed, and my temperament has been changed.	21 Quando eu me exasperava e se me atormentava o coração,
22 And so, I have been reduced to nothing, and I did not know it.	22 eu ignorava, não entendia, como um animal qualquer.
23 I have become like a beast of burden to you, and I am always with you.	23 Mas estarei sempre convosco, porque vós me tomastes pela mão.
24 You have held my right hand. And in your will, you have conducted me, and with your glory, you have taken me up.	24 Vossos desígnios me conduzirão, e, por fim, na glória me acolhereis.
25 For what is there for me in heaven? And what do I wish for on earth before you?	25 Afora vós, o que há para mim no céu? Se vos possuo, nada mais me atrai na terra.
26 My body has failed, and my heart: O God of my heart, and God my portion, into eternity.	26 Meu coração e minha carne podem já desfalecer, a rocha de meu coração e minha herança eterna é Deus.
27 For behold, those who put themselves far from you will perish. You have perished all those who fornicate away from you.	27 Sim, perecem aqueles que de vós se apartam, destruís os que procuram satisfação fora de vós.
28 But it is good for me to adhere to God, to put my hope in the Lord God, so that I may announce all your prophecies, at the gates of the daughter of Zion.	28 Mas, para mim, a felicidade é me aproximar de Deus, é pôr minha confiança no Senhor Deus, a fim de narrar as vossas maravilhas diante das portas da filha de Sião.
