Épître aux Galates 1

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Paul, apôtre, non de la part des hommes ni par l'intermédiaire d'un homme, mais par Jésus Christ et Dieu lePère qui l'a ressuscité des morts,	1 From Paul, an apostle appointed not by human beings nor through any human being but by JesusChrist and God the Father who raised him from the dead,
2 et tous les frères qui sont avec moi, aux Eglises de Galatie.	2 and al the brothers who are with me, to the churches of Galatia.
3 A vous grâce et paix de par Dieu notre Père et le Seigneur Jésus Christ,	3 Grace and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ
4 qui s'est livré pour nos péchés afin de nous arracher à ce monde actuel et mauvais, selon la volontéde Dieu notre Père,	4 who gave himself for our sins to liberate us from this present wicked world, in accordance with the wil ofour God and Father,
5 à qui soit la gloire dans les siècles des siècles! Amen.	5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6 Je m'étonne que si vite vous abandonniez Celui qui vous a appelés par la grâce du Christ, pourpasser à un second évangile --	6 I am astonished that you are so promptly turning away from the one who cal ed you in the grace ofChrist and are going over to a different gospel-
7 non qu'il y en ait deux; il y a seulement des gens en train de jeter le trouble parmi vous et quiveulent bouleverser l'Evangile du Christ.	7 not that it is another gospel; except that there are trouble-makers among you who are seeking to pervertthe gospel of Christ.
8 Eh bien! si nous-même, si un ange venu du ciel vous annonçait un évangile différent de celui quenous avons prêché, qu'il soit anathème!	8 But even if we ourselves or an angel from heaven preaches to you a gospel other than the one wepreached to you, let God's curse be on him.
9 Nous l'avons déjà dit, et aujourd'hui je le répète: si quelqu'un vous annonce un évangile différent decelui que vous avez reçu, qu'il soit anathème!	9 I repeat again what we declared before: anyone who preaches to you a gospel other than the one youwere first given is to be under God's curse.
10 En tout cas, maintenant est-ce la faveur des hommes, ou celle de Dieu que je veux gagner? Est-ceque je cherche à plaire à des hommes? Si je voulais encore plaire à des hommes, je ne serais plus le serviteur duChrist.	10 Whom am I trying to convince now, human beings or God? Am I trying to please human beings? If Iwere stil doing that I should not be a servant of Christ.
11 Sachez-le, en effet, mes frères, l'Evangile que j'ai annoncé n'est pas à mesure humaine:	11 Now I want to make it quite clear to you, brothers, about the gospel that was preached by me, that itwas no human message.
12 ce n'est pas non plus d'un homme que je l'ai reçu ou appris, mais par une révélation de Jésus Christ.	12 It was not from any human being that I received it, and I was not taught it, but it came to me through arevelation of Jesus Christ.
13 Vous avez certes entendu parler de ma conduite jadis dans le judaïsme, de la persécution effrénéeque je menais contre l'Eglise de Dieu et des ravages que je lui causais,	13 You have surely heard how I lived in the past, within Judaism, and how there was simply no limit to the way I persecuted the Church of God in my attempts to destroy it;
14 et de mes progrès dans le Judaïsme, où je surpassais bien des compatriotes de mon âge, en partisanacharné des traditions de mes pères.	14 and how, in Judaism, I outstripped most of my Jewish contemporaries in my limitless enthusiasm forthe traditions of my ancestors.
15 Mais quand Celui qui dès le sein maternel m'a mis à part et appelé par sa grâce daigna	15 But when God, who had set me apart from the time when I was in my mother's womb, cal ed methrough his grace and chose
16 révéler en moi son Fils pour que je l'annonce parmi les païens, aussitôt, sans consulter la chair et lesang,	16 to reveal his Son in me, so that I should preach him to the gentiles, I was in no hurry to confer with anyhuman being,
17 sans monter à Jérusalem trouver les apôtres mes prédécesseurs, je m'en allai en Arabie, puis jerevins encore à Damas.	17 or to go up to Jerusalem to see those who were already apostles before me. Instead, I went off toArabia, and later I came back to Damascus.
18 Ensuite, après trois ans, je montai à Jérusalem rendre visite à Céphas et demeurai auprès de luiquinze jours:	18 Only after three years did I go up to Jerusalem to meet Cephas. I stayed fifteen days with him
19 je n'ai pas vu d'autre apôtre, mais seulement Jacques, le frère du Seigneur:	19 but did not set eyes on any of the rest of the apostles, only James, the Lord's brother.
20 et quand je vous écris cela, j'atteste devant Dieu que je ne mens point.	20 I swear before God that what I have written is the truth.
21 Ensuite je suis allé en Syrie et en Cilicie,	21 After that I went to places in Syria and Cilicia;
22 mais j'étais personnellement inconnu des Eglises de Judée qui sont dans le Christ;	22 and was stil unknown by sight to the churches of Judaea which are in Christ,
23 on y entendait seulement dire que le persécuteur de naguère annonçait maintenant la foi qu'alors ilvoulait détruire;	23 they simply kept hearing it said, 'The man once so eager to persecute us is now preaching the faiththat he used to try to destroy,'
24 et elles glorifiaient Dieu à mon sujet.	24 and they gave glory to God for me.
