JERUSALEM	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Au début du règne de Joiaqim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut adressée à Jérémie de lapart de Yahvé:	1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying:
2 Ainsi parle Yahvé. Tiens-toi dans la cour du Temple de Yahvé. Contre tous ceux des villes quiviennent se prosterner dans le Temple de Yahvé tu diras toutes les paroles que je t'ai ordonné de leur dire; neretranche pas un mot.	2 “Thus says the Lord: Stand in the atrium of the house of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Judah, from which they come to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them. Do not choose to subtract any word.
3 Peut-être écouteront-ils et se détourneront-ils chacun de sa voie perverse: alors je me repentirai dumalheur que je suis en train de méditer contre eux pour la perversité de leurs actes.	3 So may they hear and be converted, each one from his evil way. And then I may repent of the evil that I plan to do to them because of the wickedness of their pursuits.
4 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Si vous ne m'écoutez pas pour suivre ma Loi que j'ai placéedevant vous,	4 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, so that you walk in my law, which I have given to you,
5 pour être attentifs aux paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes, que je vous envoie sans me lassermais que vous n'avez pas écoutés,	5 so that you listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I have sent to you, who arise while it is still night, and though they give guidance, you do not listen,
6 je traiterai ce Temple comme Silo et je ferai de cette ville une malédiction pour toutes les nationsde la terre.	6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city into a curse for all the nations of the earth.”
7 Prêtres, prophètes et peuple entier entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans le Temple deYahvé.	7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.
8 Et quand Jérémie eut fini de prononcer tout ce que Yahvé lui avait ordonné de dire à tout lepeuple, prêtres, prophètes et peuple entier se saisirent de lui en disant: "Tu vas mourir!	8 And when Jeremiah had completed speaking all that the Lord had instructed him to speak to all the people, then the priests, and the prophets, and all the people apprehended him, saying: “You shall be put to death.”
9 Pourquoi as-tu fait au nom de Yahvé cette prophétie: Ce Temple deviendra comme Silo et cetteville sera une ruine, inhabitée?" Et tout le peuple s'attroupa autour de Jérémie au Temple de Yahvé.	9 “Why has he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: ‘Like Shiloh, so shall this house be,’ and, ‘This city shall be made desolate, even without an inhabitant?’ ” And all the people were gathered together against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 Apprenant ces événements, les princes de Juda montèrent du palais royal au Temple de Yahvé etsiégèrent à l'entrée de la porte Neuve du Temple de Yahvé.	10 And the leaders of Judah heard these words. And they ascended from the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and they sat at the entrance by the new gate of the house of the Lord.
11 Alors prêtres et prophètes dirent aux princes et à tout le peuple: "C'est la mort que mérite cethomme, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, ainsi que vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles!"	11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the leaders and to all the people, saying: “A judgment of death is for this man. For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears.”
12 Mais Jérémie répondit à tous les princes et à "tout le peuple: C'est Yahvé qui m'a envoyéprophétiser contre le Temple et contre cette ville en prononçant toutes les paroles que vous avez entendues.	12 And Jeremiah spoke to all the leaders and to the entire people, saying: “The Lord has sent me to prophesy, about this house and about this city, all the words that you have heard.
13 Maintenant donc, améliorez vos voies et vos oeuvres, soyez attentifs à l'appel de Yahvé votreDieu; alors ils se repentira du malheur qu'il a prononcé contre vous.	13 Now, therefore, make your ways and your intentions good, and heed the voice of the Lord your God. And then the Lord will repent of the evil that he has spoken against you.
14 Pour moi, me voici entre vos mains. Faites de moi ce qui vous semble bon et juste.	14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do to me what is good and right in your eyes.
15 Mais sachez bien que si vous me faites mourir, c'est du sang innocent que vous mettrez sur vous,sur cette ville et sur ses habitants. Car Yahvé m'a bel et bien envoyé vers vous, pour prononcer à vos oreillestoutes ces paroles."	15 Yet truly, know and understand this: if you kill me, you will be bringing innocent blood against yourselves, and against this city and its inhabitants. For in truth, the Lord sent me to you, so as to speak all these words in your hearing.”
16 Alors les princes et le peuple entier dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes: "Cet homme ne méritepas la mort puisqu'il nous a parlé au nom de Yahvé notre Dieu."	16 And then the leaders and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “There is no judgment of death against this man. For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”
17 Et quelques-uns des anciens du pays se levèrent pour dire à tout le peuple assemblé:	17 Then some of the elders of the land rose up. And they spoke to the entire assembly of the people, saying:
18 "Michée de Moréshèt, qui prophétisait aux jours d'Ezéchias, roi de Juda, a bien dit à tout lepeuple de Juda: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Sion sera une terre de labour, Jérusalem un amoncellement de pierreset la montagne du Temple une hauteur boisée!	18 “Micah from Moresheth was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: Zion will be ploughed like a field. And Jerusalem will be a pile of stones. And the mountain of the house will be like the forests of high places.’
19 Est-ce que pour cela Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda l'ont fait mourir? N'ont-ils pas plutôtressenti la crainte de Yahvé et ne l'ont-ils pas imploré, de telle sorte que Yahvé se repentit du malheur qu'il avaitprononcé contre eux? Et nous, nous nous chargerions d'un si grand crime!"	19 Did the king of Judah, Hezekiah, with all of Judah, condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord, and petition the face of the Lord? And so the Lord repented of the evil that he had spoken against them. Therefore, we are committing a great evil against our own souls.
20 Il y eut encore un homme qui prophétisait au nom de Yahvé; c'était Uriyyahu, fils de Shemayahu,originaire de Qiryat-Yéarim. Il prophétisa contre cette ville et ce pays dans les mêmes termes que Jérémie.	20 Likewise, there was a man prophesying in the name of the Lord: Uriah, the son of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-jearim. And he prophesied against this city and against this land, in accord with all the words of Jeremiah.
21 Alors le roi Joiaqim, avec tous ses officiers et ses princes, ayant entendu ses paroles, chercha à lefaire mourir. A cette nouvelle Uriyyahu eut peur, il prit la fuite et parvint en Egypte.	21 And king Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and leaders, heard these words. And so the king sought to put him to death. And Uriah heard, and was afraid, and fled, and he entered into Egypt.
22 Mais le roi Joiaqim envoya en Egypte Elnatân fils de Akbor, accompagné de quelques gens.	22 And king Jehoiakim sent men into Egypt: Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and the men who went with him into Egypt.
23 Ils firent sortir Uriyyahu d'Egypte et le conduisirent au roi Joiaqim qui le fit frapper de l'épée etfit jeter son cadavre parmi les sépultures des gens du peuple.	23 And they led Uriah out of Egypt. And they brought him to king Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword. And he cast his dead body among the graves of the common people.”
24 Jérémie, lui, fut protégé par Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân, si bien qu'il ne tomba pas aux mains dupeuple pour être mis à mort.	24 But the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be delivered into the hands of the people, and so that they would not put him to death.
