Livre de Jérémie 14

1 Parole de Yahvé qui fut adressée à Jérémie à l'occasion de la sécheresse.	1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the words of the drought.
2 Juda est dans le deuil et ses villes languissent: elles s'abîment vers la terre, le cri de Jérusalems'élève.	2 “Judea has mourned. And its gates have fallen and become hard to discern on the ground. And the outcry of Jerusalem has ascended.
3 Les riches envoient les petites gens chercher de l'eau: Ils arrivent aux citernes, ils ne trouvent pointd'eau, ils reviennent avec leurs cruches vides. Ils sont honteux et humiliés et se voilent la tête.	3 The greater ones have sent their lesser ones to the water. They went to draw water; they did not find water; they carried their vessels back empty. They were confounded and afflicted, and so they covered their heads.
4 Parce que le sol est tout crevassé, car la pluie manque au pays, les laboureurs, honteux, se voilentla tête.	4 Because of the devastation of the earth, because rain did not fall upon the earth, the farmers were confounded; they covered their heads.
5 Même la biche, dans la campagne, a mis bas et abandonné son petit, tant l'herbe fait défaut;	5 For even the doe has given birth in the field, and then left it behind. For there was no grass.
6 les onagres, dressés sur les hauteurs, hument l'air comme des chacals: leurs yeux s'obscurcissentfaute de verdure.	6 And the wild donkeys stood upon the rocks; like dragons, they drew in the wind, but their eyes failed. For there was no grass.”
7 Si nos fautes parlent contre nous, agis, Yahvé, pour l'honneur de ton Nom! Oui, nombreuses furentnos rébellions, nous avons péché contre toi.	7 “O Lord, if our iniquities have responded against us, let it be for the sake of your name. For our rebellions are many; we have sinned against you.
8 Espoir d'Israël, Yahvé, son Sauveur en temps de détresse, pourquoi es-tu comme un étranger en cepays, comme un voyageur qui fait un détour pour la nuit?	8 O Hope of Israel, its Savior in time of tribulation, why would you be like a sojourner in the land, and like a traveler turning aside for lodging?
9 Pourquoi ressembles-tu à un homme hébété, à un guerrier incapable de sauver? Pourtant tu es aumilieu de nous, Yahvé, et nous sommes appelés par ton nom. Ne nous délaisse pas!	9 Why would you be like a wandering man, like a strong man who is unable to save? But you, O Lord, are with us, and your name is invoked over us, so do not abandon us!”
10 Ainsi parle Yahvé au sujet de ce peuple: Ils aiment courir en tous sens, ils n'épargnent point leursjambes! Mais Yahvé ne les agrée pas; maintenant il va se souvenir de leur faute et châtier leur péché.	10 Thus says the Lord to this people, who have loved to move their feet, and who have not rested, but who have not pleased the Lord: “Now he will remember their iniquities, and now he will visit against their sins.”
11 Et Yahvé me dit: "N'intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple, pour son bonheur.	11 And the Lord said to me: “Do not choose to pray for this people for good.
12 Même s'ils jeûnent, je n'écouterai pas leur supplication; même s'ils présentent holocaustes etoblations, je ne les agréerai pas, mais par l'épée, la famine et la peste je veux les exterminer."	12 When they will fast, I will not heed their petitions. And if they offer holocausts and victims, I will not accept them. For I will consume them by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence.”
13 Et je répondis: "Ah! Seigneur Yahvé! Voici que les prophètes leur disent: vous ne verrez pasl'épée, la famine ne vous atteindra pas; mais je vous octroierai une paix véritable en ce lieu."	13 And I said: “Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God! The prophets are saying to them: ‘You will not see the sword, and there will be no famine among you. Instead, he will give you true peace in this place.’ ”
14 Alors Yahvé me dit: "C'est le mensonge que ces prophètes prophétisent en mon nom; je ne les aipas envoyés, je ne leur ai rien ordonné, je ne leur ai point parlé. Visions de mensonge, divinations creuses,rêveries de leur coeur, voilà ce qu'ils vous prophétisent.	14 And the Lord said to me: “The prophets prophesy falsely in my name. I did not send them, and I did not instruct them, and I have not spoken to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, and a divination, and a fraud, and a seduction from their own heart.
15 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé: Ces prophètes qui prophétisent en mon nom, alors que je ne lesai pas envoyés, et qui racontent qu'il n'y aura en ce pays ni épée ni famine, eh bien! c'est par épée et famine qu'ilsdisparaîtront, ces prophètes-là!	15 For this reason, thus says the Lord about the prophets who prophesy in my name, whom I have not sent, who say: ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.
16 Quant aux gens à qui ils prophétisent, ils seront jetés dans les rues de Jérusalem, victimes de lafamine et de l'épée; il n'y aura personne pour les enterrer, ni eux, ni leurs femmes, ni leurs fils, ni leurs filles. Jeverserai sur eux leur méchanceté!"	16 And the people, to whom they prophesy, will be cast into the streets of Jerusalem, due to famine and the sword, and there will be no one who may bury them, they and their wives, their sons and daughters, and I will pour out their own evil upon them.
17 Tu leur diras cette parole: Que mes yeux versent des larmes, jour et nuit sans tarir, car d'unegrande blessure est blessée la vierge fille de mon peuple, d'une plaie très grave.	17 And you shall speak this word to them: Let my eyes shed tears throughout the night and day, and let them not cease. For the virgin daughter of my people has been crushed by a great affliction, by a very grievous wound.”
18 Si je sors dans la campagne, voici des victimes de l'épée; si je rentre dans la ville, voici destorturés par la faim; tant le prophète que le prêtre sillonnent le pays: ils ne comprennent plus! -	18 “If I go out into the fields: behold, those slain by the sword. And if I enter into the city: behold, those weakened by famine. Likewise, the prophet, too, and the priest, have gone into a land that they did not know.
19 As-tu pour de bon rejeté Juda? Ou es-tu dégoûté de Sion? Pourquoi nous avoir frappés sansaucune guérison? Nous attendions la paix: rien de bon! Le temps de la guérison: voici l'épouvante!	19 Could you have utterly cast out Judah? Or has your soul abhorred Zion? Then why have you struck us, so much so that there is no health for us? We have waited for peace, but there is nothing good, and for the time of healing, and behold, trouble.
20 Nous connaissons, Yahvé, notre impiété, la faute de nos pères: oui, nous avons péché contre toi.	20 O Lord, we acknowledge our impieties, the iniquities of our fathers, that we have sinned against you.
21 Pour l'honneur de ton Nom, cesse de rejeter. Ne déshonore point le trône de ta gloire. Souviens-toi, ne romps pas ton alliance avec nous.	21 For the sake of your name, do not give us over into disgrace. And do not dishonor in us the throne of your glory. Remember, do not make void, your covenant with us.
22 Parmi les Vanités des païens, en est-il qui fassent pleuvoir? Est-ce le ciel qui donne l'ondée?N'est-ce pas toi, Yahvé, notre Dieu? En toi nous espérons, car c'est toi qui fais tout cela.	22 Could any of the graven images of the Gentiles send rain? Or are the heavens able to give showers? Have we not hoped in you, the Lord our God? For you have made all these things.”
