Livre de Tobit 8

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quand on eut fini de boire et de manger, on parla d'aller se coucher, et l'on conduisit le jeune hommedepuis la salle du repas jusque dans la chambre.	1 When they had finished eating and drinking and it seemed time to go to bed, the young man was takenfrom the dining room to the bedroom.
2 Tobie se souvint des conseils de Raphaël, il prit son sac, il en tira le coeur et le foie du poisson, et ilen mit sur les braises de l'encens.	2 Tobias remembered Raphael's advice; he went to his bag, took the fish's heart and liver out of it and putsome on the burning incense.
3 L'odeur du poisson incommoda le démon, qui s'enfuit par les airs jusqu'en Egypte. Raphaël l'ypoursuivit, l'entrava et le garrotta sur-le-champ.	3 The reek of the fish distressed the demon, who fled through the air to Egypt. Raphael pursued himthere, shackled him and strangled him forthwith.
4 Cependant les parents étaient sortis en refermant la porte. Tobie se leva du lit, et dit à Sarra: "Debout,ma soeur! Il faut prier tous deux, et recourir à notre Seigneur, pour obtenir sa grâce et sa protection."	4 The parents meanwhile had gone out and shut the door behind them. Tobias rose from the bed, andsaid to Sarah, 'Get up, my sister! You and I must pray and petition our Lord to win his grace and his protection.'
5 Elle se leva et ils se mirent à prier pour obtenir d'être protégés, et il commença ainsi: Tu es béni, Dieude nos pères, et ton Nom est béni dans tous les siècles des siècles! Que te bénissent les cieux, et toutes tescréatures dans tous les siècles!	5 She stood up, and they began praying for protection, and this was how he began: You are blessed, OGod of our fathers; blessed too is your name for ever and ever. Let the heavens bless you and al things youhave made for evermore.
6 C'est toi qui as créé Adam, c'est toi qui as créé Eve sa femme, pour être son secours et son appui, et larace humaine est née de ces deux-là. C'est toi qui as dit: Il ne faut pas que l'homme reste seul, faisons-lui uneaide semblable à lui.	6 You it was who created Adam, you who created Eve his wife to be his help and support; and from thesetwo the human race was born. You it was who said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone; let us make hima helper like him.'
7 Et maintenant, ce n'est pas le plaisir que je cherche en prenant ma soeur, mais je le fais d'un coeursincère. Daigne avoir pitié d'elle et de moi et nous mener ensemble à la vieillesse!	7 And so I take my sister not for any lustful motive, but I do it in singleness of heart. Be kind enough tohave pity on her and on me and bring us to old age together.
8 Et ils dirent de concert: "Amen, amen!"	8 And together they said, 'Amen, Amen,'
9 Et ils se couchèrent pour la nuit. Or Ragouël se leva, il appela les serviteurs, et ils vinrent l'aider àcreuser une tombe.	9 and lay down for the night. But Raguel rose and cal ed his servants, who came and helped him dig agrave.
10 Il avait pensé: "Pourvu qu'il ne meure pas! Nous serions couverts de ridicule et de honte."	10 He had thought, 'Heaven grant he does not die! We should be overwhelmed with ridicule and shame.'

12 et lui dit: "Si tu envoyais une servante dans la chambre voir si Tobie est en vie? 13 On avertit la servante, on alluma la lampe, on ouvrit la porte, et la servante entra. Elle les trouvadormant tous deux d'un profond sommeil;	13 They sent the maid, lit the lamp, opened the door and the maid went in. She found the two fast asleeptogether;
14 elle ressortit, et leur dit tout bas: "Il n'est pas mort, tout va bien."	14 she came out again and whispered, 'He is not dead; al is wel .'
15 Ragouël bénit le Dieu du Ciel par ces paroles: Tu es béni, mon Dieu, par toute bénédiction pure!Qu'on te bénisse dans tous les siècles!	15 Then Raguel blessed the God of heaven with these words: You are blessed, my God, with everyblessing that is pure; may you be blessed for evermore!
16 Tu es béni de m'avoir réjoui, ce que je redoutais n'est pas arrivé, mais tu nous as traités avec tonimmense bienveillance.	16 You are blessed for having made me glad. What I feared has not happened, instead you have shownus your boundless mercy.
17 Tu es béni d'avoir eu pitié de ce fils unique et de cette fille unique. Donne-leur, Maître, ta grâce et taprotection, fais-les poursuivre leur vie, dans la joie et dans la grâce!	17 You are blessed for taking pity on this only son, this only daughter. Grant them, Master, your mercyand your protection; let them live out their lives in happiness and in mercy.
18 Et il fit combler la tombe par les serviteurs, avant le petit jour.	18 And he made his servants fil the grave in before dawn broke.
19 Il fit faire par sa femme une fournée de pains, il alla au troupeau, prit deux boeufs et quatre moutons,il les recommanda à la cuisine, et l'on commença les préparatifs.	19 He told his wife to make an ovenful of bread; he went to his flock, brought back two oxen and foursheep and gave orders for them to be cooked; and preparations began.
20 Il fit venir Tobie et lui déclara: "Pendant quatorze jours, il n'est pas question que tu bouges d'ici. Turesteras là où tu es, à manger et à boire, chez moi. Tu rendras la joie à ma fille après tous ses chagrins.	20 He called Tobias and said, 'I wil not hear of your leaving here for a fortnight. You are to stay whereyou are, eating and drinking, with me. You wil make my daughter happy again after al her troubles.
21 Après, emporte d'ici la moitié de tout ce que j'ai, et retourne sans encombre auprès de ton père.Quand nous serons morts, ma femme et moi, vous aurez l'autre moitié. Aie confiance, mon garçon! Je suis tonpère, et Edna est ta mère. Nous sommes tes parents, comme ceux de ta soeur, désormais.
